Enabled games can feature more realistic environmental dynamics, a richer tapestry of sound effects, breathtaking directional audio and more. AMD TrueAudio technology enhances audio realism by simulating the human brain’s perception of real-world sound, working in concert with the user’s existing audio hardware to recreate a lifelike experience.
  • newegg AMD Eyefinty Technology Run multiple displays from a single graphics board and expand your gaming field of view across all displays.
  • newegg AMD App Acceleration AMD App Accelerator creates a "co-processing" environment, in which the compute processing potential in your AMD Radeon Graphics processor works together with the system central processor to accelerate enabled applications.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing

Pros: Smooooth gameplay every game on ultra , so nice . didn't have to flash bios all is well .I am so impressed with this card , it is what I had hoped for , the best R9 290 on the market , debatable - Yes , but this puts up a strong case for the top spot , runs cool , after hours playing games on ultra , fan got up to 70 percent , temps never went over 67 degrees for a 290 that is more than good .

Cons: I have heard this works better in games than it does at mining , to that I say , Good , I'm no miner and it has taken a year for the price to come back to earth so that mortals could afford them , so I personally hope no new video cards ever get their prices hijacked like that again . Gamer

Other Thoughts: Amazing air cooling , powerful , factory overclocked stable and smooth . definitely needs a good stable power supply , engines need fuel , feed it and it goes nicely . remove overclocking and graphics utilities prior to install , this card rocks

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: It can heat your house.

Cons: Unstable. Continual crashes. They claim you need to update the BIOS which is a joke to begin with, but then when it doesn't work, you have to pay to ship a defective card out of the box to them. The 90% negative reviews do not lie, STAY AWAY.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

This is Raymond from PowerColor. There are various issue asisde from the bios update/graphic card that can cause your system to crash. In cases where the users are unable to troubleshoot their system, we request that the card be sent back for us to investigate whether the card is the problem or not.

Best Regards,
Raymond

5 out of 5 eggsSo Far Extremely Good

Pros: Card is actually outperforming many non reference R9 290x cards and I knew it could when I bought it . there was the risk of the flickering and black screens folks have experienced , Not Me not yet anyway , prior to installation I removed MSI Afterburner and the AMD Drivers , Installed card booted up downloaded the latest beta afterburner and didn't touch any settings but fan profile , ran Heaven twice , Valley twice figured to test it more by playing Murdered Soul Suspect for about two hours , cranked all settings up and ran no higher than 67 C I am a happy Guy

Cons: So many people are having to flash bios , I actually Preemptively emailed Raymond , figured I would have to do the same but the performance of this card would make the little extra effort worth it . Yet so far no need has arisen , I think an important step is to get rid of Afterburner prior to install because the older version had bad definition files supporting the 290 , this has caused problems on some forums I have seen , just a note not really a con.

Other Thoughts: I am using a bronze certified Logisys 750W PSU with separate lines feeding the six pin and the ten pin connector no piggy backing on a single line , my preference.
Everything runs beautiful use caution and common sense in dealing with the cards known issues with the bios flash required in some cases. Here is mine working fine and should that change I will write back about how Raymond and I solved the problem but Im feeling good .
Honestly I feel like I'm getting away with one here, an R9 290 that is on par and slightly ahead of most R9 290X cards and I got it on the double discount and with the three free games plus a gaming mouse ... The card looks like a Hotrod and runs cool under full load 67c tops, your choice I gambled a bit and I am Happy.

3 out of 5 eggsFlashed Bios. All seems good now

Pros: THIS IS A FOLLOW UP REVIEW. Raymond from Powercolor came through and gave me a bios update for the card. Works great now.

Cons: Had to update the bios to even use the card reliably.

Other Thoughts: I have a hard time recommending a card that doesn't work correctly out of the box. If you're looking for a BEAST of a cooler, the PCS+ is amazing

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

This is Raymond from PowerColor, the newer card should have the bios update already applied. If you still have any issue, you can contact me at Raymond.Hsu@powercolor.com.

Best Regards,
Raymond

4 out of 5 eggsHappy now

Pros: way better than my hd5970 for heavily modded skyrim, which was my reason for upgrading.

Cons: The first one was a dud. but this one seems fine. Although I had one blue-screen sitting on desktop for no apparent reason. I've added a more aggressive fan map to afterburner to be safe. I have not overclocked it. seems cool. hasn't happened again (yet).

2 out of 5 eggsVery disappointing...

Pros: very few I have found so far.

Cons: This card is not stable at all. I can only get this card to run SOMEWHAT stable on Battlefield 4. All other games it crashes or randomly loses DVI output. Contacted Raymond at powercolor and got the bios to flash on the card BUT he left no instructions on how to flash the bios...when I try to use ATIWINFLASH it says there is no card. I am very frustrated that I spent this much money on this card and basically got a paperweight. I will never buy a powercolor again. Additionally their website is full of broken links. If Raymond reads this I would like to find a way to either get this card replaced with something certified to work.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

If you are experiencing issues, please contact me for further assistance. If you need instructions, you can ask for it via email. Raymond.Hsu@powercolor.com

Raymond

1 out of 5 eggsNonstop Crashing

Pros: Performance (While it's working), Temps are great, Build quality is great. The most sold GPU I've ever bought, minus the whole not working right thing..... IF THE CRASHING GETS RESOLVED IT'S AN EASY 5 STARS.

Highest quality paperweight I've ever bought.

Cons: Like so many other people have commented.... crashes A LOT. Like having a crazy fast ferrari that randomly shuts off on the race track without cause or warning.
I've tried it in 2 different computers, 3 different power supplies, 4 different drivers, BIOS switch in both positions, doesn't matter

As of right now, I can't even use it. LETS GET THIS FIXED!

IT'S YOUR TIME TO SHINE POWERCOLOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!

Other Thoughts: It's HUGE, almost 3 pci slots in width, trying to get it to recognize my 8 year old 2nd monitor was a chore.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

This is Raymond from PowerColor. Please email me at Raymond.Hsu@powercolor.com and we can resolve the issue.

Best Regards,
Raymond

5 out of 5 eggsLove these cards. Crossfire Review

Pros: I've owned 2 of these cards for 6 months. Love them. I see that some folks are having issues, this is perhaps batch related. My experience couldn't be better with these cards.

I initially ran one of these cards and was very happy with the temps/speed/noise of the unit. I love the Sapphire Tri-x 290x I've used and I love the Powercolor PCS+ 290. I've used them both for mining and gaming. The PCS+ is a better heat transfer cooling device than the Tri-x due to how massive the PCS+ heatsink area is. Both are great coolers.

The PCS+ cooler on this 290 is one of the best available and it's got a backplate as well which makes the card feel more sturdy than the Sapphire 290x Tri-x OC cards i've used. This cooler rivals the Tri-X coolers from sapphire. The PCS+ gets better temps, but is slightly noisier in my experience.

I decided to run 2 of these in crossfire. My motherboard has 3 slot gap between PCI Ex 16 slots which is required for these cards due to how thick they are. In crossfire they run great and temps are ok for me. I have excellent case airflow. With extra air being pushed towards VRM1 of both cards as well as extra air being pushed parallel through the cards placement in my case.

The cards come overclocked to 1040c/1350m and have a +50mv overvolt. I had to turn down overvolt to +0mv and run the cards 975/1250 to keep noisedown in crossfire. This setup still demolishes games at ultra detail combined with a 4690k running at 4.4ghz.

Overall highly recommended along with Sapphire Tri-x and Sapphire Tri-x Vapor-x.

Cons: Some folks are experiencing issues.

5 out of 5 eggsDid the Bios flash. Everything seems to be in order.

Pros: Very Powerful. Chews through games at 1080p.
All black
Looks nice
Has a backplate

Cons: Nothing much performance wise after BIOS update.
A bit thick. Cross firing these might be an issue. (They seem to take up an awkward 2.5 slots)
A bit on the long side as well. I had to take a HDD cage out of my Define R4 to fit the GPU.

Other Thoughts: Finally, Raymond delivered and sent me the new BIOS files. Flashing was actually pretty simple. The one thing he didn't provide was the boot files to put on a flash drive in order to boot into DOS. I just got them here

http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=196

and everything seemed to work out. As instructions said, I formated a USB to FAT32 and used the create DOS startup disk with the boot files I downloaded from the link above. Then I put all the files Raymond sent me into the flash drive that I just formatted and restarted. After going into my motherboard BIOS, I then booted from my flashdrive and it booted into DOS. Then I just simply entered the command line Raymond sent me and it was done. Pretty simple and didn't take too long.

Also, another thing. The name of the rom file Raymond mentioned in the instructions were different from the one he gave me. But he just told me to rename the one he gave me to match the one in his instructions and it all worked out. No big deal.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks, but Powercolor doesn't seem to respond to my emails

Pros: Works when it does, and when it does, it's powerful.

Cons: Crashes and BSODs every once in a while.

Other Thoughts: I contacted Raymond from Powercolor like everyone else who had problems with the card and he told me send a picture of the back of my card. So I replied to the email and sent the picture asking for further instructions. But since then, I have gotten no replies. I sent the picture of the card 8 days ago and never heard back. I thought maybe the mail didn't send because I replied so I sent a brand new email. Still nothing. It's been 3 days since the last email. I hope he will see this review and respond.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

This is Raymond from PowerColor. I was away on business, please email me your name and the previous email. We can get this issue sorted out. Raymond.Hsu@powercolor.com

Best Regards,
Raymond
