5 out of 5 eggsMy Mistake...

Pros: Card works if you use cables directly from power supply. Card seems quite fast on Metro at 1680x1050 with all details up + AA. Raymond seemed friendly and helpful after I contacted him. He suggested updating my PC's bios. I may try this if I see another crash, but after gaming an hour using the 8 pin power, I think I may be all good.

Cons: 6-8 pin adapter. My previous review was a mistake. I apologize to Raymond & Powercolor.

Other Thoughts: I previously left a one-egg review that I am not sure I can remove. I'm leaving a 5 egg review to counter it. When I originally hooked up the video card, my 8 pin power cable was buried deep in my case, while my 2nd 6 pin was near the video card. I used the adapter that came with the card, but the card crashed and I figured it was the card. I think it was actually that cable as I seemed to have solved the crashes after digging deep in my case & running the 8 pin power supply cable directly to the card.

5 out of 5 eggsYes I knew what I was getting into!

Pros: Once I got it working it works great!

Cons: video card bios update required to make it work right

Other Thoughts: I was fully aware of the 2-egg rating and reading the reviews I kind of got the impression impatience and lack of information were the key drivers of the bad reviews. When nearly everyone is having the exact same symptoms. Chances are the problem is not that every single item is broken in the same manner.

Anyway... the black screen/artifacts/software shutting down issues were all resolved with a bios update

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't work long

Pros: Worked ok for the first 2-3 weeks.

Cons: Started locking up in the middle of playing Torchlight. Game would hang with sound just playing. I'd have to hit the reset button/reboot to recover. Windows System logs said "bugcheck 0x00000117". My system should handle this easily: i5-4570, 16G (2*8GB) ram, 3 hard drives, 2 ssd, Corsair HX 750w power supply. Win7-64. Upgrading drivers didn't fix the issue. Must be hardware, right? System was rock solid stable before "upgrading" from my 6870 -> R9 290.

Other Thoughts: I bought this as it was the cheapest R9 290 on Black Friday, after rebate. I'm probably now out $10-$15 to ship this back and most likely it will be 2'ish weeks until I get another card. If I knew I'd have this issue, I would have spent a little more for a better quality card. I don't overclock anything so I figured something simple/cheap would work.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsCheck your power cables

Pros: Card works great. Runs everything I can throw at it on max settings (Star Citizen, Total War games, Skyrim).

Cons: Turns your computer into a space heater. Also, many people have had problems with this card. I did at first. Black screens, and only 50% use in games. I think one of the main issues is the power consumption. I had a 6 and 8 pin connectors on the card coming off the same rail from the power supply. After using one rail for the 6 and one for the 8, it works perfect.

4 out of 5 eggsOk for the price

Pros: Price
Powerful
Stable (so far)

Cons: Hot
Noisy

Other Thoughts: Just run some benchmarks and played 2 games

NO BSOD, no crashes, no problems so far.

In wow temps are ok (~65)
In benchmarks FC4 temps are high (80) and is sooo noisy, strange that the VRMs are cool (~60) and only the GPU goes that high, maybe lapping and changing the paste would help lowering those.

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage product! Drivers Don't Work

Pros: Cheapest version of this graphics card out there

Cons: Drivers don't work on Windows 7. Graphics card crashes and doesn't come back. Many different versions of drivers including beta versions were tested and all crash. Graphics card seems to operate at 1% or 100% with no in between. Don't buy this card since it isn't stable!

1 out of 5 eggsNo improvements yet

Pros: None, it's DOA.

Cons: Received this item today, plug it in, installed drivers (14.301.1001-140915a-176154C) Ran Furmark for testing. System crashes.

Other Thoughts: Now I'm wasting my time trying to RMA this thing.

1 out of 5 eggsIDK HOW

Pros: nice picture for the 1.5 minutes i saw

Cons: after installing drivers and restarting had no picture mouse and keyboard wouldnt register that they were plugged in and even after removing the card unitstalling all drivers and starting from fresh again. had the same problem of no screen and non registering mouse and keyboard.

Other Thoughts: had no problem with the nvidia geforce 460 i was using before hand.
have it back in the computer now and running fine. hoping after my RMA goes through the next one will work or i will prolly never buy an amd again.

5 out of 5 eggsPerforms well for my needs. No issues on this end.

Pros: Similar length to my previous 7950, so it was just a case of switching them out. It has been performing extremely well in Watch Dogs, Alien Isolation, and even The Evil Within.

The temperatures have stayed below 70C in Watch Dogs, which is a rather demanding game when maxed out.

Cons: Others have had black/white screen issues, but nothing like that has happened to me.

Other Thoughts: At 229, w/ 4 games, and a 30 rebate it was worth getting. So far, nothing of issue.

I've ordered a Corsair 750W power supply(rec), but my current HEC 600W one runs this card just fine.

Cons: easily the noisiest thing inside my case

Other Thoughts: can't recommend this to anyone
