4 out of 5 eggsFast Card

Pros: I usually play games that are 1-2 years old, so this plays them on max and ultra settings with no problems what so ever (only had it a day, so test played diablo III and skyrim to check it out). Haven't done any transcoding yet, but am looking forward to seeing if it will increase my frame rate over my old 6870.

Cons: This card did not come with a driver disk, no problem, downloaded the latest anyway. However, the AMD driver BSOD'd during installation. Tried a couple of times to install but no joy. Had to go with the beta driver (which worked, so not the cards fault). Power hungry beast (like 200+ watts, needs 750W PSU or better). Can be a bit screechy when under load. Not unexpensive. P.S. AMD guys, failed to install should be annotated as a fatal error, not a warning in your logs.

Other Thoughts: This card is huuuuuuuge. It barely fit in my mid tower case. There is only about 2mm between the edge of the card and my sideways mounted HDD bay. Measure before you buy to make sure it will fit. My 6870 died last week and replaced it with this, big internal debate between the 280, 270x and gtx760 which were all at the same price point.
I haven't stressed the card yet, so haven't had any temp issues, but at 200+ watts, I am buying extra fans.

4 out of 5 eggsFor the price? Can't beat it.

Pros: -Cost
-Ease of installation
-Ease of overclocking
-Looks great
-You're getting GTX 770 performance for LESS than you'd pay for a 760. It's a no brainer if you're on a budget.

This card is BY FAR the most accessible method for bringing full HD 1080p gaming to the masses. It's price is unbeatable, it's a med-high end graphics card at the cost of a low-med card. It can play every single game on at least medium quality at 60 FPS (more intense games like Watch_Dogs or Crysis included), and MOST games on MAX quality at around 60 FPS. For the price, you cannot get better performance, period.

Cons: -Cooling is a notch below some of the other R9 280 cards.
-Very minor coil whine. If you have headphones you won't hear it at all, and if you have a closed case you'll hardly notice it.

Other Thoughts: Among R9 280 cards this one is middle of the pack in every regard sans price. I picked this one up for less than 200 dollars, which is absolutely ludicrous for a card of this quality.

If it wasn't on sale I would still highly recommend it as it's a great card, but at full price it's not as much of a standout, hence the 4 eggs as opposed to 5.

5 out of 5 eggsPowerColor R9 280

Pros: Great speeds.. handles almost everything I throw at it.. and hey, it even looks great... definite an improvement from my last card.

Cons: OH LORDY ME O MY THE COIL WHINE #!#!!

JK .. there is definitely a noise .. someone below said 'swarm of bees' and id like to know what intoxicants hes on. lol. its more like a whining kitten or a small banshee..

Other Thoughts: all joking aside.. the noise isn't that bad (not super loud)... but probably makes reselling it interesting...
I am, however, kinda made that newegg didn't give me the promotional 20$ gift card to use. I love to shop here and have for over a decade and was looking forward to using it!

5 out of 5 eggsAXR9 280

Pros: Great performance for the price.

Cons: There's a bit of coil whine as others have pointed out, though it's hardly noticeable.

Other Thoughts: I paired it with i5-4430 (first build) and have so far been playing WoW, Payday 2, and Skyrim on max settings at 60+fps.

4 out of 5 eggsPowerColor R9 280

Pros: Price to performance
OC's easy
Good cooler
Backplate

Cons: Ugly heat pipes?

Other Thoughts: Ive used NVIDIA cards for many years, and wanted to try an AMD after doing alot of research on them. Faster and cheaper than a GTX 760 ( i have 2 in SLI on my main rig )

With the 285 on the market now ( which doesnt perform any better actually) the price of this card should go down soon and ill be getting another

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome performance!

Pros: It run everything you throw to it. Max settings in all the games. You can't beat the performance for the price!

Cons: Not that much that a cons, but it doesn't take all the effort out of the pc cpu in some games and the temps start to rise over 65°C in my Amd Fx-8350

Other Thoughts: Shipping was a blast as choose will pickup and have it in my hands in a couple of days with no extra shipping costs!
Thanks Newegg!

1 out of 5 eggsBuzz

Pros: Good price.

Cons: If you like having a swarm of bees living inside your case, go for it. This card sounds horrible. IM not sure if it's coil wine or something else. It is, however, extremely distracting. Newegg was great by taking care of me. It's been a while since I made a big purchase from the egg, but they made it right, so I'll be back.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We apologize for the issue that you are faced with. Please be aware that coil whine is normal on high end card. If you have any further questions, you can email me at Raymond.Hsu@powercolor.com.

Best Regards,
Raymond

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good Gaming Performance! cool and quiet Fan!

Cons: Coil Whine! Why coil whine happened? Mostly, Coil noise can happen when the coil is poorly secured to the circuit board, is poorly damped. Quality!! ColorPower, Please control your Quality! Perform DFSS!!
I replaced a new card!! Same problem!! What I can do then?!
The answer is: Turn the "Vertical sync" on!
Somebody will ask:" If the card is fullload, but FPS is still under the monitor Refresh rate, then??"
Then enjoy the ridiculous Coil Whine! and get tinnitus! Because your can not refund this noise maker!

Manufacturer Response:
