3 out of 5 eggsPowerColor TurboDuo AXR9 280 3GBD5-T2DHE/OC Radeon

Pros: Quick install
6to8pin VGA adapter
Sleek look
2 slot card
good packaging
included a game

Cons: DOA two times in a row (original ordered card and rma card)

Other Thoughts: I really wanted to give these guys a shot (PowerColor) The card had decent reviews. And they are a sponsor at a LAN i attend in Portland Oregon. (PDXLAN)

Newegg was very quick and professional about replacing the DOA card, But the replacement was DOA as well. Not Newegg's fault. They were super helpful in resolving the situation in a prompt and professional matter via online chat feature the second time around. the card is otw back to california now,

Two(2) Dead cards in a row. fans powered on but the LCD screen power light stayed orange(no signal) popped back in my original card and no problems (competitors card) same issue with both AMD R9 Cards.
I gave it 3 stars for Newegg's prompt service
0 stars for the video card.

1 out of 5 eggsAlways crashing.

Pros: When it did work, it was amazing.

Cons: When it didn't work, which was 9 times out of 10, Windows 7 and 8.1 would crash on startup, no matter which driver I used. Couldn't open pictures, couldn't browse too much, couldn't start games or play much, couldn't do anything beyond search for a fix..
Flashed my mobo BIOS, but no dice. Tried 12 different drivers (including betas) on both OS, but it would either crash on startup or result in an unstable environment that would crash as soon as I opened a game or app or tried viewing a picture.
Even changing the BIOS dipswitch on the GPU did nothing. I tried various fixes suggested around to no avail. None of the Windows updates helped, either.
Asked for an RMA from Newegg since after a week of troubleshooting, I'm unable to find a fix.
Swapped RAM and such, but still nothing.
I did find a good solution to the coil whine issues, though: turn up the volume. :]

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: -awesome bit rate, not sure if I phrased that right
-3 gigs of gddr5 ram
-crossfire
-great price
-doesn't get too bottle necked in a pci express 2.0 slot

Cons: only makes me virtual sandwiches

Other Thoughts: It doesn't come with any kind of converter and 2 of its slots are mini display ports nor does it come with a crossfire bridge. Some people said that it can support up to 4 monitors, I haven't tried to set up 4 but i tried to set up 3 and it wouldn't put the image on 3 screens. This was a disappointment but it doesn't bother me enough to lover it 4 eggs.

4 out of 5 eggsCan tackle most of the games I throw at it

Pros: This beast can handle Witcher 3 and Assassin's Creed Unity. I haven't played any other games on it though so I can comment.

Cons: There is a bit of coil whine though and I can hear it distinctly. Although the coil whine goes away after a couple of seconds of opening Witcher 3. So as soon as I start actually playing there is absolutely no more coil whine.

Other Thoughts: This GPU was a good investment in my opinion. I can actually play the games I want on high/ultra settings and it does not have an FPS lag. So I'm happy with that.

3 out of 5 eggsGames look amazing. Coil whine annoys when not gaming unless running Linux

Pros: No coil whine at Linux desktop. Coil whine in games isn't bad if you have headphones or turn up the volume.

Cons: Coil whine at Windows desktop. Tried Win 7 x32 and x64 with 3 catalyst driver versions and tried full catalyst install and driver only. Win 8.1 x64 with different driver versions. All desktops have coil whine and annoyed me to death.

Note using the open source driver Ubuntu 14.04 and Fedora 20,21 did NOT have any coil whine issues.

Other Thoughts: I use Linux as a primary desktop for surfing the internet and media. No coil whine under these operating systems. Gaming only pc and Linux desktop users if the price on this card is competitive go for it!

1 out of 5 eggsAMD drivers are GARBAGE

Pros: High power hardware

Cons: The driver support for AMD is terrible. I have tried every version of drivers from the included CD (version 13.xx) to the current beta version (14.xx) and they are ALL flawed. Either my machine will lose sound, or it crashes entirely (preceded by the AMD Black Screen of Death - google it).

Additionally, this product is NON REFUNDABLE. I wanted to exchange it for a comparably priced NVidia card, but it was not possible. Newegg told me I would have to contact the vendor.

Other Thoughts: Avoid AMD at all costs. The hardware is superior, but the software support is garbage. It's like having a Ferrari with no tires. I had always used NVidia in the past, but took some advice to give AMD a shot since their hardware is superior. Lesson learned.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: - Legendary double precision compute performance.
- Comes with a backplate! (Which is pretty outstanding for a card in this price range).
- Good price, and often comes with a MIR on top of it.

Cons: - Has some coil whine, but not too much.
- By now this architecture is really dated, but then again no newer model from AMD come anywhere close in terms of double precision compute performance to price ratio.

Other Thoughts: I bought this card mostly for OpenCL compute. In double precision calculations, it has 1/2 performance of Titan Black, for 1/6 the price.
