Supercharge your gaming experience with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 video card. The GeForce GTX 970 is powered by the next-generation NVIDIA Maxwell architecture, delivering unmatched performance at incredibly lower power consumption when compared to the previous generation. 1664 CUDA Cores and a 4GB GDDR5 memory in a 256-bit width work side by side for game redefining performance. You can play today's hottest titles at max resolution on today's highest-definition displays, all at ultra settings.

Performance is just part of the story. The Maxwell architecture is engineered with the new VXGI (Voxel Global Illumination) technology to solve some of the most complex lighting and graphics challenges in visual computing. Scenes are significantly more lifelike as light interacts more realistically in the game environment. Super Resolution technology lets you enjoy the detail and brilliance of 4K gaming even on 1080p displays. The G-Sync technology ensures smooth, tear-free images by synchronizing the display frame rate to the GPU (requires displays that support G-Sync). An array of NVIDIA GTX technologies are also built in, like GPU Boost, NVIDIA 3D Vision, NVIDIA Surround, NVIDIA PhysX, and GeForce Experience. These technologies together provide the most immersive and competitive gaming experience possible.

  • newegg NVIDIA GPU Boost 2.0 Technology Dynamically maximizes clock speeds based on workload, and allows enthusiast class controls such as temperature target and fan controls, extra over-voltage headroom, and optimizations for water-cooling solutions. This allows greater customization and overclocking options and enables gamers to push performance to new levels.
  • newegg NVIDIA G-SYNC NVIDIA G-SYNC is groundbreaking new display technology that delivers the smoothest and fastest gaming experience ever. G-SYNC's revolutionary performance is achieved by synchronizing display refresh rates to the GPU in your GeForce GTX-powered PC, eliminating screen tearing and minimizing display stutter and input lag. The result: scenes appear instantly, objects look sharper, and gameplay is super smooth, giving you a stunning visual experience and a serious competitive edge.
  • newegg Dynamic Super Resolution Technology Enables the details of 4K monitors, on a 1080p display. DSR produces smoother images by rendering a game at a higher resolution, then downscaling it to the native resolution of the display using advanced filtering.
  • newegg GeForce Experience The easiest way to optimize your games and keep your drivers up to date, the GeForce Experience application automatically notifies you of new driver releases from NVIDIA. Update the driver directly with a single click, without leaving your desktop. Plus, it offers exciting features like GeForce ShadowPlay that lets you capture and share your greatest gaming moments, automatically.
  • newegg NVIDIA PhysX Technology Full support for NVIDIA PhysX technology, enabling a totally new class of physical gaming interaction for a more dynamic and realistic experience with GeForce.
  • newegg NVIDIA Surround Nothing is as breathtaking as playing your favorite games across three monitors. At 5760 x 1080, the expanded field of view fully engages peripheral vision and provides for the most immersive experience in racing and flight simulators. Add a fourth display to keep tabs on chat, email, or the web while you're gaming.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth the Price

Pros: Cheapest of the 970's. In CS:GO im getting 400FPS+ with a i7 5820K.

Cons: Its casing is low quality. Handle/install with care.

Other Thoughts: When i upgrade my Pc i never break 400 dollars when i buy a GPU. Luckily the new line of 900's came out when i was looking to do a new build. Outperforms my old 560Ti with ease. Fan does make some noise when under heavy load. Whenever this happens though i cant notice it for i have headphones on.

If you use onboard/PCI-E soundcard. Make sure you turn off audio output in the Nvidia drivers if you use HDMI displays.

4 out of 5 eggsPresentation is half the battle

Pros: -Reference Design
-Availability
-Price
-Copious display outputs
-Low temps
-Does what it's supposed to

Cons: -Flimsy Plastic
-Makes a buzzing/sizzling/hissing sound during WEI score update and during gaming
-Design leaves a lot to desire
-Availability
-Too many mini-display ports for my personal application

Other Thoughts: This card does just what it's expected to, but the presentation is lacking. Packaging is very minimalist, and the driver disk looks like it was mass produced in someone's garage. Mine had a shortcut that led to the nvidia page. It didn't even have a driver to install. Not sure if that's the case of other people, but that's just laziness on their part. It comes with a couple of display adapters. The card makes a strange hissing sound when it's under load. I guess it's commonly referred to capacitor whine? I don't know, but I didn't expect that sound coming from a brand new video card that isn't even overclocked. Speaking of overclocking, the ASIC on this card is 79.6% so that should be an easy overclock. I'm only knocking one egg off because of presentation and the hissing. Hopefully it does not become a bigger problem than what it seems.

3 out of 5 eggsNoice

Pros: Latest chip
Better graphics than the 460 it replaces
Blower fan. The heat coming out of this in game is quite warm.

Cons: Noise

Other Thoughts: Might return this card depending on a what a friend who is getting the Gigabyte says about its coil whine.

I've only run this card with Shadow of Mordor, and when the game fires up it sounds like someone is making popcorn in the next room. I've limited the frame rate to 60fps and that has helped, but I thought something was hitting the fan blades the first time I started Mordor. I am not picky on quiet, but without headphones I think the rattle would affect your immersion.

5 out of 5 eggsPNY GTX 970

Pros: OC'ed to 1216 and stable while playing RIFT. Price was nice. Upgraded from a 560Ti 448. and scored twice as high on 3DMark 11. Sleek black look fits well with the case theme. Very low noise even when fans running 75% but temps never got over 65 C. through MSi AfterBurner.

Cons: N/A

4 out of 5 eggsPNY GeForce GTX 970

Pros: Performs as advertised. The 970 is the best chip you can buy for cost vs performance. I purchased two of these cards to run in SLI configuration. Once installed in the machine, drivers downloaded and installed, everything configured and ran perfectly. Didn't have to jump through any hoops or anything for SLI to work, all displays were detected.

With my AMD 8350 processor these cards run BF4 at ultra settings in triple screen surround mode at 45 - 60 fps during multiplayer. I'm sure I could tweak the performance to get better frames but it's not that critical for me to squeeze out those frames at this time.

Coming from an AMD R9 290, I must say I am happy to be back on Nvidia drivers and software suite. I never considered myself a fan of either brand, but in this case I can say that Nvidia is superior in this category.

Cons: While this card has three display ports on it and one HDMI port, which I believe is more ports than similar cards, they are all mini DP and mini HDMI which means adapters or non-standard cables will be required to use them. One mini HDMI to standard HDMI adapter is included but I would have actually preferred they included a DP adapter instead.

The fan shroud does feel very thin and flimsy, and honestly it doesn't look as good as pictured. Not really that big of a deal since it still serves its purpose and it's not like I'm going to take this thing off roading, but it might matter to some people.

For these issues combined I would actually take off one half star, but I can't do half star ratings so that's why it's only 4 out of 5.

Other Thoughts: After installing these cards and other components I upgraded the fan noise in my machine increased. It used to be fairly silent at idle and the only thing I changed with fans were these two cards. That said, however, I believe the noise is coming from my CPU heatsink fan. I haven't gone back in to investigate further, but because of this I cannot comment on any possible fan noise or lack there of from these cards. I'll modify this review once I pin it down.

4 out of 5 eggsTalk about bang for buck

Pros: Very powerful card with excellent modern features. The board itself is surprisingly small considering other cards in its class are fairly large. The cooling system on this particular card is the exhaust type that is preferable for SLI setups and functions well for me. On top of all of this, you can't beat nVidia drivers and in games that support PhysX this card has no trouble performing those tasks.

Cons: The cooling shroud is fairly flimsy and was clearly designed to save production costs. I don't particularly like the placement of the power connectors as it's difficult to make the cable manageable.

Other Thoughts: I would have no problem purchasing another PNY card when the time comes to upgrade to SLI.

3 out of 5 eggsAmazing performance, disappointing cosmetics

Pros: Amazingly Powerful Card
Bang for Buck is the best you can get right now
Low Power Consumption

Cons: Flimsy Shroud
Card Sags visibly
"Cheap" Feeling

Other Thoughts: The low quality plastic on the shroud contributes to its sagging, it feels like it could break if you give it a tiny squeeze. Trying to re-sell mine right now to purchase another type of 970.

4 out of 5 eggsJust getting familiar with it

Pros: • Nice looking card (not flashy)
• Blower type- so hot air is sent out of the back of the case
• Reference-style connections (3 DP, 1 HDMI, 1 DVI)
• Overclock +225MHz Core no problem.
• Fan can be set to run fairly silent, but at a cost to temperature.

Cons: • Temperature gets to about 80c during benchmarking and mining, then throttling occurs
• Fan at ~45% (the automatic setting speed that occurs at ~80c) is not very quiet, and keeping the fan low leads to the temperature reaching 80c and then throttling. I'd need to set the fan to come on stronger, increasing the noise but lowering the temperature and lessening the throttling.
• Monitor connected to DP does not show PC BIOS POST- the monitor only shows information when the video driver is loaded in Windows. The secondary monitor (oriented in portrait, flipped) shows the BIOS power-on password to the side This monitor is connected using the DVI out. I haven't seen a way to change this yet.
• I don't see a utility or bios update for the card on PNY's website. Drivers for PNY redirect to Nvidia's website.
• DisplayPort output needs be active on power-up, not only in Windows. This feels hacky to me.

Other Thoughts: At today's rates, GPU mining is dead- it'll take decades for the 600+ MHps to pay anything, if ever. (Not a failure of the card in any way).
The serial number is quite long with two sections, and is not (ironically) the number on the sticker that says "S/N: ...". This is only for registering online for the lifetime warranty.
At first, while benchmarking and only while benchmarking, the display connected via DisplayPort showed lines and tears in the video and the screen would blank out for seconds at a time. I was going to swap DP outputs but it seemed to be the cable- slightly loose. I need to find a decent cable that won't dislodge or connect improperly. Once I fitted the cable again, the display output was rock solid.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy.

Pros: It looks nice.

Cons: Doesn't work. The fan never once turned on and it would overheat like crazy. I doubt anything is wrong with my PC as it was just working completely fine with a GTX 460, so it must be DOA. Don't think it's worth the risk buying this card again.
