4 out of 5 eggsGreat budget card

Pros: Compared to beefier GeForce and ATI cards, this one won't hold a candle in gaming apps, but this is a great card so far for business apps and general use, especially paired with an nVidia chipset motherboard. Aero looks great on Server 2008 SP1 with this card, and (just for testing purposes) even runs Doom 3 and HL 2 pretty well

Cons: only 64 stream processors (but what do you expect for $50!?). Doesn't have some of the other benefits of more expensive cards.

Other Thoughts: Tested with a Core 2 Duo e8400, EVGA 650I ultra, 2 GB A-Data 800FSB DDR2, Server 2008 SP1 (with Aero requirements turned on).

Would definitely recommend this card for business use, even for entry-level gaming systems until you can afford something with more oomph.

Pros: Runs Guildwars great on the high settings. About to do Castle wolfenstein and Call of Duty 4. Pretty quiet actually. Great card for light gaming and movies.

Cons: 64-bit card and Gddr2. Fan is a little small, but not bad.

Other Thoughts: Could be a little easier to overclock. No biggie though.

4 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Great performance for the price.

Cons: Not the quietest card. I am returning this card based on that. Gonna try a fanless card.
Newegg.com is great and the customer service awesome.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat little performer for the money

Pros: Very inexpensive for an 8 Series Geforce chip and can be over-clocked considerably using nForce from nVidia to a stable GPU frequency of ~780MHz from 567MHz. The memory clock can also be raised a considerable amount. The roomy 512MB of GDDR2 is a welcome addition to such a small, inexpensive card. DirectX 10 support under Vista. The low-profile design accommodates HTPC cases or Slim PCs (however, does not include low-profile bracket), it has a simple driver install, and is relatively quiet during operation.

Cons: It's memory is the older GDDR2 type (as opposed to GDDR3 in more recent cards) and features 64-bit memory pathways which do hinder performance. A low-profile bracket would be ideal if ECS would include it, however, the XFX Low-Profile Bracket Kit (also found here on Newegg.com) does work perfectly to adapt this card for such applications.

Other Thoughts: This card, over-clocked and installed on a Dell Optiplex 330 featuring a 2.2GHz Core2Duo E4500 with 2GB of 800MHz DDR and Windows XP Home, performed at 10-15 FPS running the system-trasher 'Crysis' set to medium settings and 1024x768 res. Of course, your milage may vary however, this does give a good indication of how flexible this card is relative to it's cost and the performance of much more expensive cards. (Search component review sites like tomshardware.com for comparison benchmarks) Overall, I am pleased with the performance and flexibility of the 8400GS and would recommend it to either persons on a budget or those looking for a good low-profile solution.

5 out of 5 eggsServer Video Card

Pros: I'm using this as a server video card on 64-bit Win Server 2008, absolutely no compatibility problems and its packs a decent punch as far as graphics processing.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Stable, Reliable and Quiet.

5 out of 5 eggsSurprising

Pros: This card continues to surprise me with its performance. I originally bought it just so I could could hook up my new 22" lcd monitor with DVI but since then I have used it with several older games with graphics on high and no glitches...at all.

Cons: Not the best graphics processor out there by any means but then for $40.00...

Other Thoughts: Stunning clarity. Sometimes I just sit and stare at the pretty pics on my desktop background ooh... aah!

5 out of 5 eggsSweet mother of motion!!

Pros: Ok i had just my old 64 mb onboard card before this. I dont have alot of the games people test these cards with so i downloaded second life. It was horrible. It took forever to load it was very choppy it had very low resolution. Now with this card.... it loads almost instantly. I am walking around completely fluid. There are shadows and textures i never knew existed. This card is the one to get. Id buy another if i needed it.

Cons: none yet..
