3 out of 5 eggsWell Here I Am Again

Pros: I have had this card now for well over a year and as before, the card has performed very good for "Some" High End gaming on an older Presario machine. The performance with Vista and Windows 7 has been quite good. The latest drivers (v275.33), were no problem to install. Overclocking the card allows for better 3D Graphics where Full Object Lighting is more realistic (S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Call of Duty 4, Resident Evil 5, etc.)

Cons: After about 7 months, the fan started making chattering noises which got worse and then finally, got to the point I was afraid the card would burn out. I changed the Fan by adding a Modified CPU Fan to the heatsink which worked but I wanted a true GPU Cooler so I ordered one. Since I have installed the GPU Cooler Fan, the card has worked great as far as staying at a reasonable temp and core level. CONS for this adapter are: 1) Streaming Video is choppy unless you turn off all unnecessary background applications and any other intensive programs, 2) High End Gaming is still a little choppy at times and not as smooth as it should be with 512MB DDR2 Video RAM.

Other Thoughts: With a performance rating of Core Clock 567MHz, Memory Size 512MB, Memory Interface 64-bit, Memory Type DDR2... this card could be much better than it is on many games and for online streaming.
For the original cost though, this card is a good deal and has proven to be much better than my original 256MB card.
It has played Call of Duty 1 thru 4, Resident Evil 4 and 5, Medal of Honor Allied Assault/Pacific Assault/Air Borne, and others without issues but any newer games are a bit choppy.

1 out of 5 eggsfar below expectations

Pros: my computer still starts?

Cons: can't play guild wars at a decent framerate.3 fps is unacceptable on a game that should be blow away by it (min gfx specifications for gw: nVidia GeForce 3 series or above)
this is a 8400 GS and it cant perform as good as my computer's onboard graphics (im on a 6 year old dell.) the card does play some games (need for speed carbon, madden 07) but games barely pushing the higher end of the card limit will be destroyed.

Other Thoughts: i am in the process of making a custom computer,so i got ram and a video card for my current dell, just for me to manage with it until i get the custom pc built.i basically wasted money i could've bought a hdd with,or a case maybe.

don't buy this.its only $45 but its worth about $5.

1 out of 5 eggsThe Worst Video Card I Have Ever Used

Pros: Plays some very old games relatively well, such as Unreal.

Cons: It's missing so many standard 3D graphics functions that it makes most games unplayable. We are talking about Sauerbraten, Call of Duty (the first one), SecondLife. On the lowest settings possible, and you will still have graphics issue, IF they even run at all. I am seriously better off using the onboard video. Returning ASAP.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

Based on your feedback we performed some tests on 2 of the games you mentioned. On Call of Duty (the first one) Demo and Cube 2: Sauerbraten. We did not see graphic issues you mentioned. Both played normally. This was set to default settings on both, which were moderate to high settings. We are unsure what issues you may have had, but if you still have the VGA card please feel free to contact us.

Settings/Specifications:

Motherboard: A780GM-M3 V1.0
CPU: AMD 2850e
Memory: 2GB
HDD: 200GB WD
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
nVidia: 260.89 drivers.

Cube 2: Sauerbraten: 2010-07-28 Justice Edition
Resolution: 1366x768 16:9
Default settings: ~30fps
Low settings: ~60fps
Tested : Bot match, Academy Map, CTF

Call of Duty Demo.
Resolution: 1024*768
Character Textures: Extra
General Textures: High
Texture Filter: Bilinear
Texture Quality: Default
Nvidia Distance Fog: Yes

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I have had this card for 7 months. Until now, the card has performed wonderfully for High End gaming on an older machine. The performance with Windows 7 has also been quite good. The card installed without any difficulty - aside from the fact that my MOBO has 1 capacitor that sits very close to the card's board edge, the card just passes the capacitor by a hair. The drivers - the latest nVidia v258.96 - from the site - were no problem to install. This is the only reason I give an overall rating of 3 out of 5.

Cons: a few days ago, the fan on the card started an intermittent chattering sound that only gets better after it has warmed up... but then after the computer has been on for a few hours and the card has been idle - no intense graphics actions - it will start making the noise again. Tech Support from the Mfg was good. I was told to check the card in a different PCI slot and then on another computer and if it had the same issue, I could call back and set up an RMA for return or replacement since the card's warrantee is still good.

Other Thoughts: Since I really cannot wait to send the card back and have it or another returned - which could take a couple weeks - I will most likely buy a VGA Replacement Fan and Heatsink and fix it myself - which would be much cheaper than buying a new card.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: For what I needed the card for, its working like a charm

Cons: When I shutdown my computer, it does not shut down, it just restarts.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the feedback, it is appreciated.

If you haven't already, please contact us. We would like to find out what motherboard you have and help resolve the restart issue you are experiencing. This could possibly be related to one of the resume by power management events in the BIOS.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great price and runs Windows 7 Aero without any problems.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: Haven't stressed the card so don't know about temps or ability. No games will be played on that card, just got it for win7 areo and flash sites to watch kids shows.

1 out of 5 eggsNo S-Video Support Win XP

Pros: If you just need hardware decoding via VGA or DVI this card should do the trick to revive an old computer.

Cons: The S-video port has terrible driver support. The most recent drivers (required for Flash 10.1 hardware decoding) do not work on XP with the S-video port. Just google this card with S-video, it either partially works for people or not at all. This card is NOT an option for hardware decoding Netflix/Hulu with an old computer and Analog TV. Which is the exact market it seems to be targeting.

Again this isn't a "try a different driver" problem. If it only works on a driver with out Flash 10.1 support it's still useless.

Other Thoughts: If you want S-video support buy ATI.

Manufacturer Response:

Flash 10.1 requires a driver release 195 or later. We have tested version 195.62 and the latest currently available (258.96) and did not see an issue with S-Video as clone, extended or single monitor. We were able to view both Netflix and Hulu streams.

If you still are having issues with your S-Video and this video card, please contact us. We would like to work with you on finding a resolution to this issue. To do tis we would like to find out more about your system environment.

1 out of 5 eggsDisapointed

Pros: works?

Cons: Very poor graphics for what is supposed to be a decent pci card. I was expecting this to out preform the on board intel graphics with only 64mb of shared ram, but fell very short. I generally get at least 15fps on games like wow on the on board card, but this one only gets around 7-8fps

Other Thoughts: I would avoid this card and look elsewhere. Also like the previous person my pc also will not shut down. I have to unplug it. I only have this for a backup system so its not like its a big loss, but I hate wasting money on what was supposed to help my system.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsCauses shutdown problem

Pros: Enables Windows 7 aero features and high desktop resolutions.

Cons: After installing this card, system will no longer shutdown. Choosing shutdown, Windows restarts instead.
(Intel mainboard D865GVHZ, P4 3.4 HT 478, PCI slots only, 2GB DDR)

Other Thoughts: Performance of card this card, considering it is 'only' a PCI graphics card, is probably to be expected. Rates a 2.1 in Windows 7. The shutdown/restart problem is quite disappointing.

Manufacturer Response:

If you are continuing to have shutdown issues, please contact us as we would like to work with you to find a resolution.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: This card allows me to run Dual Monitors (albeit with a DVI to D-Sub adapter) and installed with ease. Great performance for under $50.

Cons: I haven't gotten into any heavy gaming with this card yet, but I can imagine being limited by the old PCI interface a little..

Other Thoughts: I didn't even bother with the installation disc. I just went to Nvidia's website and downloaded the latest ones available.
