The Video-228PCI Series video accelerators are excellent 2D/3D multimedia video adapters for PCI local bus desktop PCs?

Based on nVIDIA GeForceFX 5200 core technology, built-in with 128MB DDR memory module, these video cards will provide multiple display outputs onboard for TVout (Analog and Digital) or Dual RGBout (Twin) in optional. As the previously core technology from nVIDIA, the GeForceFX 5200 Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) shakes up the gaming industry with its extremely performance, unusual visual effects, and speedy frame rates-injecting life into the artificial world of computer-generated graphics.

4 out of 5 eggsFX 5200 Dual DVI

Pros: Easy to install and use. Good graphics and easy to configure.

Cons: Very poor fan quality. Have had to replace two within the last year.

4 out of 5 eggsWhy is it so expensive?

Pros: This card is expensive because it uses a DMS-59 port, which is a combination port that provides pins for 2 DVI ports. You need a special splitter to split the DMS-59 port into two DVI ports. This is mostly suited to special high resolution monitors that use a DMS-59 port in order to support the high resolution.

Cons: Yes, the card does suck. FX 5200 is the farthest thing Nvidia offers from a gaming card.

Other Thoughts: This should probably go under the workstation graphics section of the site... We use these in our engineering class and they work far better for Autocad than they do for even the oldest of games (Plays Assaultcube just barely).

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Very small card for dual DVI.

Cons: Could not boot into Linux with this card. Pricey for the GPU. Runs hotter than I would like.

Other Thoughts: Bought this card for a Linux nettop with dual monitors. I couldn't get the machine to boot with this card installed. Went with Windows XP and things seem to run fine. Great card for the size. Could be a bit cheaper for an FX 5200.

4 out of 5 eggsSLI rig's 2nd,3rd screens

Pros: 5200 is minimum GPU for Vista's AeroGlass effects. If your 1st display uses all your fast slots (SLI or Crossfire), this lets you connect a 2nd and 3rd monitor (or HDTV).
Both can be digital connections (DVI or even HDMI, using cord that's HDMI on display end, DVI on Vid card end)).

Cons: Not cheap for an old GPU

Pros: Does what it advertises. No install issues or failures yet.

Cons: Fans can be somewhat noisy.

Other Thoughts: Great bang for the buck.
