BFG lives up to their reputation again. This GeForce 8600GT-based card comes with 512MB of super fast GDDR3 memory. Designed to be used with GDDR3 memory, it can also run with the previous generation GDDR2, albeit more slowly. You might save money going with another brand, but your video performance could be up to 80% faster if you had gone with a GDDR3 based card.
Along with speedy memory, BFG overclocked the GPU from 540MHz to 565MHz for maximum speed. The memory clock runs at 1400MHz, so the card is screaming no matter how you look at it. All this power and speed could cause heat issues, but the ThermoIntelligence fansink keeps the GPU up to 18°C cooler than with the reference cooling system.
Two dual-link DVI-I ports with HDCP support let you attach today’s biggest monitors or TVs. There's also an S-Video port for component video connections. And what are you going to do with the large monitors besides watch movies in HD? Play the latest DX10 video games, of course! BFG brings it altogether for a tour-de-GeForce card!

Great for the price.
- Pros: Awesome upgrade from my 7900 gs from my budget build. Easy installation, works great with XP pro. Quiet operation during gameplay. Runs Vanguard at high settings great, DAoC highest setting.
- Cons: Still lacks the performance of the 8800 which is not much more expensive.
- Other Thoughts: I plan on running these cards sli when I buy the second one. Will write another review and let you all know how it goes.
Quality Card
- Pros: Works fine in Shuttle SG31G2 with 250W power supply. Played HL2 and C&C Generals @ 1600x1200x32 with 8xAA, getting 30 fps & up even in heavy battle. GLExcess demo = 14000 XSMark.
- Cons: Default fan speed on the card is full. This means until your Windows graphics driver loads, the fan will be very loud. Tried it in Linux, but the fan speed was still at full. I haven't tried the Nvidia proprietary drivers yet for Linux.
Also, can't select any level anisotropic filtering in Nvidia control panel. Driver issue perhaps?
- Other Thoughts: I may upgrade the power supply anyway, as it's probably near the max load. Nvidia doesn't officially support Windows 2000 anymore with the 8000 series cards, but I got it to run.

Not bad for the money
- Pros: Decently fast card to do some gaming, video and photos. That is what I bought it for in the first place.
- Cons: The GPU fan is a bit loud no matter what I do. It runs at full speed constantly. Will look into this further.
- Other Thoughts: Not a bad budget card-if I can get the noise down.
great product
- Pros: good cheap card.
- Cons: old card now.
- Other Thoughts: bought so my gf could run serious sam 2 in sli.
