3 out of 5 eggsLoud and noise during sleep, shutdown

Pros: It worked great with all of my computer games

Cons: So usually after I shutdown the computer it makes a loud noise. The noise sounds like a trucks engine that hasnt been started up in over 3 years. The video card is very large. But other then that,it was a very good product

5 out of 5 eggsCool n' quiet

Pros: Very quiet! I gently zip-tied a 120mm fan to the heat sink on this card, open air I'm hitting 44C running Battlefield 2142 on max settings/resolution. At idle the temp is around 40. No overclocking yet but with that huge heatsink and a 120 fan I imagine this will do well. A++

Cons: HUGE!!! (no worries if you're only mounting one card)
NOT Hybrid SLI compatible.

Other Thoughts: Asrock k10n78m
2G 533 ram
2.4Ghz AMD Athlon X2
160 Maxtor 3Gb/s

3 out of 5 eggsMake sure you have room

Pros: Im sure its a great card!

Cons: The Heat sink is on the reverse side of the card, and unfortunately it interfered with my Northbridge heatsink/fan. Most motherboards will probably work fine, but it doesnt like the XFX 780i.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you do some looking at your motherboard and make sure there isnt anything near the pcie slots for a good 2 inches.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Video Card!

Pros: This card is pretty decent for the money and the passive cooling heat sink is quiet and effective.

Cons: After the card install the computer went into sleep mode and the video card started making a terrible crackling sound. It sounded almost as if it was an electrical short. After waking it up and installing the drivers from the provided disc in Windows 7 it seemed to be OK. Unusual that the card would be that depended on drivers during sleep mode. No damage or issues after the sleep problem though.

Other Thoughts: Other than the strange noise it's a pretty decent card.

4 out of 5 eggsBFG Tech

Pros: I bought this card from another source, but will buy from Newegg next time. The video card performs well.

Cons: BFG Tech Support leaves a lot to be desired. One of my DVI connector mounting studs broke off. BFG Tech Support won't just send a replacement stud; they insist that I've got to send in the card with an RMA. That will result in my system being down for about two weeks while I wait out the turnaround time for the card to return. They advertise 24/7 telephone tech support, but good luck getting someone to answer the phone. After several failed call attempts, I was only able to contact BFG Tech Support via email.

Other Thoughts: Several manufacturers offer the NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT. Consider the tech support when choosing a manufacturer. I will when I'm ready to purchase another card.

2 out of 5 eggsBeware of RMA process

Pros: Good card when it worked.

Cons: Had to RMA twice with cards that went bad, BFG RMA process is terrible.

Other Thoughts: As a dealer / system integrator, we've used many products, most never need RMA, this particular model has twice and the RMA process is not user nor dealer friendly. After initial customer registration the product goes bad and a new product provided under RMA, then the second RMA they want you to "register" the product again and having no proof of purchase other than the first RMA, it is a silly process and time-consuming, designed to make you give up and stop wasting your time. As a system integrator, we'll be looking at other brands that don't make the RMA process such a pain.

5 out of 5 eggsSLI and space

Pros: I bought this card as a mate to run SLI. It did not mate to my other brand card. (my fault.)
The design of this card allowed me to keep my sound card. the slot below my second pci-e slot. huge plus.
I have not had any over heating problems with this card, but my case fan blows on both cards.
I bought a second card, and sli runs great, a great performance increase.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: should have bought this card first.

5 out of 5 eggswow

Pros: runs frontlines fuel of war, crysis, deadspace 1,and left 4 dead 1 all on high settings. easy install kinda tight but worked highest temp so far 129 f on both cards. did put 2 fans on my open case blowing in like suggested enabled sli and away it went runs great great price.the rebates will make that great too.

Cons: better get an extra 120 mm fan or two 80 mm ( thats what i had laying around )

Other Thoughts: wish newegg would put actual measurment of card thinkness, length and width i got lucky just fit.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Great value at under a buy in under a hundred dollars, a free after market Thermalright HR-03 Rev.A VGA cooler that set you back another forty, and currently a twenty dollar mail in rebate until end of Jan., '10.

Cons: Sloppy factory installation of heatsink, used ArticSilver thermal compound removal solution to clean GPU surface of an over application of thermal paste, thoroughly cleaned the surface of the heatsink, it still had a manufacturing lubricant on the surfaces and had no been properly cleaned prior to installation.

Other Thoughts: Not a purchase for novice system builders. Needs a little attention to detail before long term usage. If you use a case with inverted ATX mounting (cpu at bottom) then flip the cooler to Type2 installation (find pdf at thermalright's website) so heat pipes flow up. Clean the GPU surface and heatsink surface thoroughly, apply high grade compound such as ArticSilver or MX-2. If the rest of your system is not passive, then add a low rpm (92mm 1500 rpm 20dba GELD fan is $8 - perfect!) with two narrow strips of 3M double sided foam tape for anti vibration and 2 paper clips can be bent to form fan clips at two diagonally opposed fan mounting holes to hold it securely to heatsink.

After modification above, idles at 44C and peaks at 65C under heavy gaming. :)

5 out of 5 eggsJust an observation about heat

Pros: This card does support nVidia Hybrid Power so if you have an nVidia based board with a supported IGP then you can set the BIOS to turn this card off wqhen it isn't needed to play high end graphics intensive games. That will save you power AND heat that would be generated if you left this card as the default all the time.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Thius is just a reminder to those worried about unnecessary heat and power usage.
