5 out of 5 eggsWorth it

Pros: - Works as designed.
- Connecting via Firewire with an Apple makes operation simple and effective.
- Video and audio results are excellent.
- Can be powered via Firewire bus (great for portability).

Cons: - Can get rather "warm" if used for long periods of time.
- AC Power adapter must be purchased separately.

Other Thoughts: - Would purchase this unit again, without question.

5 out of 5 eggsSimple and Works Great

Pros: Simple. This is truly plug and play. I connected the included fire wire cable and recorder and it powered up and launched my Cyberlink Power Director. I was all set to transfer my only tapes. I have transfer about 5 hours of tape with no issues.

Cons: None noted.

Other Thoughts: I have struggled with transferring my old tapes to my computer for many years. This is the solution I have been waiting for.

5 out of 5 eggsThis works great

Pros: I bought this over 3 years ago and it's been working great. It's easy to use. I use the RCA plugs to feed video from either my camcorder or from a VCR. I use Nero software most of the time, but other software recognizes the unit as video input. I connect the unit to my Windows PC via firewire cable (hence no need for a power supply). I paid $209 in 2009 for it and for the reliability and ease of use, it's been worth while to me.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsSimply Works...

Pros: I have converted several VHS tapes through this device and haven't had any problems whatsoever. Never had any dropped frames or problems with audio sync. As other reviews have said, there is no degradation in quality. It looks just as good as the original. The key with this device is simplicity. It's just plug and play. There are no drivers required. I run Windows 7 64-bit with no problems. Worth every penny.

Cons: None. Some might complain about having to buy a separate power supply when using with a 4 pin firewire but that was not needed in my case.

Other Thoughts: Worth the money and the time saved over messing around with other cheap junk.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works great! I have already converted a large number of 15-year-old VHS tapes to .avi (100+ hours of video). After conversion, I can't see any difference between the quality of the video from the tapes and the quality of the video from the .avi files -- they are indistinguishable me.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I'm using high quality composite (RCA) cables, but I'm not sure whether this makes a difference in the quality of conversion. Note that you need a 6-pin IEEE 1394 port to power the device; if you only have a 4-pin port, you will need to buy an external power supply, which is fairly expensive.

5 out of 5 eggsADVC110

Pros: An excellent product! Worked right out of the box, interfacing with Windows 7 64bit and Sony Vegas via IEEE 1394. My first analog video conversions were flawless, with no processing lag and perfect audio/video sync. I'm glad I purchased it and am looking forward to converting all 25 of my HI8 video tapes in the same manner.

Cons: No downside as of yet.

5 out of 5 eggsit works

Pros: Uh, any copy of windows XP can be installed without MS blocking updates. I haven't used this with Win7, but I think every tech minded person still has an XP box or two and/or a copy of XP sitting around somewhere. This thing works, I mean plug and play works. Man, if that is the worst tech workaround you've ever had to do you must be about 15.

Cons: dumb comments

5 out of 5 eggsFor the money it doesnt get better than this

Pros: Does not drop frames from old VHS tapes, I have around 50 old VHS tapes, some are horrible in quality. The audio stays in sync with the video no matter how bad your tapes are.

Cons: It gets a little hot, but it's still working after 2 years!

Other Thoughts: I have tried to rescue my old 8mm & VHS tapes using some pinnacle cr*p & a whole bunch of other video equipment but the audio would never stay in sync with the video. I havent tried it on WIN 7 but im guessing it does not work on that platform according to some reviewers, it's no reason to give it a 1 star rating, WIN XP still works great for me.
