4 out of 5 eggsGood Video Capture for Windows XP Only

Pros: It is very good deal with the rebate and provides decent video capture capability and PVR. It is USB and can handle multiple video sources such as composite,AV and coax cable.

Cons: Not forwared compatible with new operating systems like vista and service packs and updates. It only works with Windows XP and with provided WinDVR Version 5 which is going to be obsolete. As per Plextor tech support they will not update drivers for Vista or WinDVR updates any longer so you will be your own if conflict/problems arrise.

Other Thoughts: For the same amount of money checkout ATI Wonder USB 650

4 out of 5 eggsGood converter

Pros: You can save file in DIVX format. Picture quality is above average.

Cons: Need a PC with high clock rate (>1.6 GHz) to save file in DIVX format. I thought that due to the H/W Codec, I can use an older PC to capture the video. Since it requires a faster PC to capture at a lower bit rate. I think S/W has to do a lot of processing so H/W codec is king of misleading.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect!

Pros: On the go encoding to make smaller files. Software included with it works fine and has a lot of features. Small but powerful.

Cons: Haven't found any yet.

Other Thoughts: I use this to record games off of my Playstation 3. Given, I must do it in SD, but it still is nice. I just split the AV signals and hardly any integrity is lost.

3 out of 5 eggsIt works under conditions

Pros: - Got all the software tools that you need to make it work.
- Got updates on the driver and tools.
- Auto on/off base on USB power.
- External USB 2.0
- Hardware encoding with Divx Certified.
(If this is true, how come Video & Audio does not
synch up correctly in some application below?)

Cons: - Only works with the given tools and nothing else.
* not working with the Movie Maker that came with Windows.
* not working well with Plextor Tool professional LE.
(Hangs when selecting Text Screen option)
(Video & Audio not synch)
* not working well with Plextor Go Cap.
(Couldn't capture Video)
- Encountered problem on TV tuner when first loaded up.
- no 5.1 audio support

Other Thoughts: - Should be compatable with any video capturing software (better driver support would help).
- Should support digital audio input.
- If this cost too much, it would have been going back.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I have had this product for several years. I bought it to dub VHS tapes to DVD. It works perfectly, though I do not use the bundled software. A bonus is that it can record in MPEG2 and your files need no transcoding to put on DVD.

Cons: Not found any yet, other than the bundled software.

Other Thoughts: Contrary to other reviews, it works as perfectly in Vista as it did in XP.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat device

Pros: Great quality coming from a VHS tape, really easy to make a DVD with the included software, it worked on my first try.

Cons: The included software is not professional quality, but who's complaining for the price. It's great for home movies.

Other Thoughts: Great product for the price. Highly recommended

3 out of 5 eggsNifty Device

Pros: Inexpensive with discount and rebate, comes under 50 dollars. // Easy to install with Windows XP, I have XP Home 32bit. // Inputs to hook up external devices. // Lot's of video quality to file size recording options, let's you auto record for a portable device with DivX and MP3 audio, which is very handy to put on my Archos Gmini 402 mp3 / video player. // Records off my satellite TV excellently, and my video game consoles (see other thoughts on how). //

Cons: Expensive without rebate. // This unit's software "InterVideo WinDVR 5" caused my PC to start getting "Explorer.exe has caused a problem and must shut down." error (paraphrased, can't recall word for word). My PC was 100% stable before installing this software and I have not encountered this error on my PC until I started using this software. PC seems to function fine after this happens, but this still causes a large nag in the back of my mind, and this product would have gotten 5 eggs if it wasn't for this issue. (And I even patched the software to the most current version.) // Does not have an ATSC (digital) tuner... will need to buy a unit capable of this in 2009. And for that matter only has one tuner period.

Other Thoughts: TIP: If you want to record using a game console using this device, pick yourself up a composite or S-video splitter at your local A/V store (%5 piece of hardware, 1 female to 2 male), and hook one video input into the device, and 1 input into your television (also pick up an extension cable if your PC and TV aren't close). If you try to game through the device you will experience a noticeable half second lag which makes twitch games almost unplayable. // Since I have done that, I can record my Xbox 360 games quite easily now. // Overall, not bad if you catch it with a rebate, otherwise, try something else. I'll be keeping it though, I guess, as it's pretty cool and this is my first attempt at making my PC a PVR.

4 out of 5 eggsEasy to use but does not support Vista

Pros: Very easy to install and quickly start using.

Cons: Does not support Windows Vista and no drivers available to support Vista. Had to return this product.

4 out of 5 eggsNeed good computer

Pros: Great hardware and comes with great software. Easy to follow instructions. Only used to transfer videos of my kids from VHS to computer.

Helpful tech support from Plextor when I had problems.

Cons: You need a good computer. Using my Dell Latitude D510, XP Pro, Intel Pentium processor 1.73 Ghz, and 1GB of RAM, the video and audio went out of sync after about 5 minutes and sometimes the video would freeze after 15-20 minutes. Tech support recommended "run MSCONFIG and disable all of your startups, disable you antivirus, and disconnect your internet connection then do the capture" and that didn't help.

I have NO problem using my Dell Inspiron 530, XP Pro, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.19 GHz, 4 GB RAM.

Other Thoughts: Price (with rebate) made this very worth buying.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with Vista!!

Pros: For $200, I wouldn't bother. However, for $59 after the rebate this is a steal! I haven't yet tried to watch TV on it or use the DVR feature, but it works perfectly when importing video from a video camera or VCR. I bought this thing in order to convert home videos to a digital format, and it does so beautifully.

Cons: It's an older product that comes with out-dated versions of good software.

Other Thoughts: Contrary to Plextor's website, this IS supported by Vista. The driver disc that comes with it will not work with Vista, you just have to plug the thing in and let windows automatically search for the driver. It takes a few minutes for Windows Update to find and download it, but it does work.
