Fan is NOT adjustable
- Pros: Very fast card, black PCB is nice.
- Cons: VERY LOUD. Sounds like a leafblower under my desk. Not good for a build with an Antec Solo silent case and quiet Nexus fans. These cards no longer have adjustable fan control. In fact, the PCB has a 4 pin connection, but the fan itself has only 2 power wires, but not the other 2 wires needed for the fan control. Looks like XFX is trying to save a couple bucks on a cheaper fan.
- Other Thoughts: RMA'd and bought the EVGA.
Fan is loud, Non Adjustable
- Pros: Great card. Only takes up one slot. Runs everything I've thrown at it so far with no sign of slowing down. Haven't tried Crysis yet, but everything else runs great maxed out. Bought from Newegg, and as always, great shipping, great price!
- Cons: Fan is extremely loud at 100% and will not adjust lower. I have tried all different software to reduce the speed and no matter what I do, it always runs at 100%. nTune's automatic adjustment puts it at 29% but it still runs at 100%. Some other people have said theirs is adjustable, others say XFX changed the fan very recently to always be at 100%. I removed the card and checked... the fan only has 2 wires going to it, indicating it will always run full blast regardless of software or temperature. Will try to RMA today. Purchased it on 2/20/08 from Newegg.
- Other Thoughts: If the fan speed / noise is not a problem for you, this is a great card. However it seems that the newer cards are shipping with the fan always at 100%. I have an Antec 900 case, 800w PSU, Intel Q6600 2.4Ghz, 4gb DDR2-800, EVGA nForce 780i mobo. Aside from the video card, the system runs silent. My old tower has 5 fans always at 100%, and this video card makes my new machine sound just as loud as my old one. Was going to get another one to run in SLI, but with two of these running their fans at 100%, I’d be surprised if the case doesn’t fly away. Hopefully Newegg will accept an RMA for a slightly different card w/o a restocking fee. Looking to get the EVGA 512-P3-N802-AR 8800GT as replacement(s).
