XFX took the 8800GS GPU and tweaked it so you can game like the Alpha Dog you are. The core clock has been boosted to 580MHz and the memory clock jumps to 1400MHz to wring every last ounce of performance from the 384MB of GDDR3 memory. Of course, if that isn't enough juice you can add another card in SLI.

All that power drives the Lumenex engine for lightning fast anti-aliasing and HDR Lighting for stunning realism. The Quantum Effects Technology utilizes advanced shader processors to deliver an entirely new level of physics effects that are rendered on the GPU, leaving the CPU free to run the game engine and the AI.

The built in PureVideo HD Technology was specifically designed to enhance your HD experience. Built in hardware decode acceleration of H.264, VC-1, WMV and MPEG-2 HD and SD movies provides a theater-like experience. The HDCP compliant dual-link DVI ports allow you to play your HD-DVD and Blu-ray discs.

  • newegg NVIDIA Unified Architecture with GigaThread Technology The fully-unified shader core dynamically allocates processing power to geometry, vertex, physics and pixel shading operations, delivering incredibly true-to-life 3D graphics. In addition, the massively multi-threaded architecture supports thousands of independent, simultaneous threads, providing extreme processing efficiency in advanced, next generation shader programs.
  • newegg Full Microsoft DirectX 10 Support The DirectX 10 GPU with full Shader Model 4.0 support delivers unparalleled levels of graphics realism and film-quality effects.
  • newegg NVIDIA Lumenex Engine The NVIDIA Lumenex Engine supports 128-bit and 64-bit floating point HDR with up to 16X anti-aliasing, delivering vividly realistic lighting effects while obliterating "jaggies".
  • newegg NVIDIA SLI Technology Delivers up to 2X the performance of a single GPU configuration for unmatchable gaming experiences. The must-have feature for PCI Express graphics, NVIDIA SLI technology allows two graphics cards to run in parallel and dramatically scales performance on today's hottest games.
  • newegg NVIDIA PureVideo HD Technology The combination of high-definition video decoding acceleration and post-processing delivers unprecedented picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color and precise image scaling for all video content, especially movies.
  • newegg Built for Microsoft Windows Vista Built for Windows Vista, NVIDIA's fourth-generation GPU architecture offers users the best possible experience using the Windows Aero 3D graphical user interface available in Microsoft latest operating system.

4 out of 5 eggsCan play CRYSIS on High Settings

Pros: Pound for Pound performer. Capable of handling all the games I play, mainly CRYSIS and COD4- also BIO SHOCK on high or max settings. Performane is a little better when used in SLI.

Cons: ( In my case.) With one GPU installed+sound card-availible ram is 2.5gig. Add the second card for sli and my available ram drops to 1.5 gig ? Loss of a full gig does not make me happy. I think I should have spent more on one 512mb GPU rather than two 384mb GPU's.

Other Thoughts: motherboard = XFX 680i LT
GPU's = XFX 8800GS 384mb ( x2 )
Operating System - Windows XP SP3
Note: I swithed from Corsair XMS memory to the Dominators- 2 x 1024mb- I'm amazed. I see more detail!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Worked great out of the box. Installed newest drivers from nvidia's site and got 10K 3Dmarks with an e6600 at 3ghz. Runs relatively-cool for a single-slot cooler, and the price is good. I usually buy cards from their competitor, but for a budget build this is a great videocard, and will provide SM4.0 and DirectX10 compatibility for future use.

Cons: None that I can see. Not super-powerful but more than enough for moderate gaming at medium resolutions.

Other Thoughts: Bought this for a customer's budget build to use with Age of Conan. They haven't complained yet, and seem satisfied with it after using an AthlonXP system previously.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Best Card for your dollar. There are better cards but considering what one is paying for this, is an absolutely great video card. I bought it for my new system and it runs Age of Conan in high settings with absolutely no lag. Want something nice, not too expensive ? this is it.

Cons: the fan is a bit loud but you'll eventually get use to it. Is not annoying or anything, but the only con I can think of.

Other Thoughts: it runs age of conan in high settings ! I never knew such a beautiful game could be created ! best eye candy in gaming history!

5 out of 5 eggsExcelent Gard

Pros: This card handles everything I throw at it. It will max out COD4 at 1440x900 and 2xAA with great fps. It will even run Crysis at 1024x768 dx10 with all settings on high except for shadows. XFX backs up there products with a excellent warranty.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I am running this cards on a system with a Intel E2180 @ 2.8ghz, Abit IP35-E, 2x1gb Corsair XMS2, Corsair 550vx and XFX GeForce 8800GSb 384mb

5 out of 5 eggsGood purchase at the time

Pros: It performs quite admirably on most of the new games. I just installed GRID and boy, that game runs so smoothly on my E2160, 2gb DDR2 and 8800GS @ 1440x900 resolution. Quite a pleasant surprise as COD4 was a TAD laggy.

Cons: None other than the fact that I could've bought a 8800GTS (much better) for 10USD a few days later... Still, at 90AR, it's a decent enough price.

Other Thoughts: Fan is quite noisy even with my Antec Sonata II case. But nothing I can't live with.

5 out of 5 eggsgood deal

Pros: I just want to write that this was a good purchase, good value for the money. The install instructions were pretty good. Given the size of the card and the smallish size of my case it installed relatively easy.

Cons: I had a little trouble with power cords, etc. I have plenty of power in the PC power supply but it was difficult to come up with two separate power cables. That was my only difficulty.

Other Thoughts: You should buy this card if your'e looking for good value on a video card.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat deal.

Pros: This card is great for the price.. I run Crysis with medium settings and it's very smooth. Most other games run smoothly with the graphics settings maxed out.

Cons: It runs kind of hot (72C under load) and the fan is really loud. I thought a loud fan wouldn't bother me, but it did.

Other Thoughts: Replaced the stock fan with a Zalman vf900. The temperatures dropped 20-30 degrees C under load and now it's very quiet.

A note to those thinking of replacing the stock heatsink and fan: The 8800GS has only a 2-pin fan connector and the Zalman vf900 (I don't know about others) has a 3-pin connector, so you may need to either buy or make an adapter.

5 out of 5 eggsNot as loud as everyone says

Pros: It's not as loud as everyone says. You can hear it, but it's not bothering enough to warrant a return. Runs all games out today perfectly. Every game but Crysis, maxed out, 1600x1200, no less than 35FPS. Crysis runs Very High with some tweaks from bbentley (Google it), 1024x768. Looks amazing. Overclocked to 720/1800/2000

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Sweet card. Sweet price.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall good card

Pros: Price has gone up a little, but still this card has one of the the best performance per dollar ratios out there now.

Cons: The other posts are indeed correct, the fan is very loud. Do not get this card if you can't put up with a loud fan. I emailed XFX tech support and they said there's nothing that can be done about it...the two wire fans only has one speed, fast and loud.

Other Thoughts: I've played Crysis and Gears of War...medium settings with no AA and it still lags a little at times, but overall they're playable. I'm running with 4 Gigs of RAM and an Athlon X2 4600 processor.

Manufacturer Response:

Please email me your support ticket number (Neweggsupport@xfxforce.com) as we can help reduce the fan noise.
