Awesome card
- Pros: I bought one of these about two months ago and I couldn't be any happier with it. I run crysis warhead at all enthusiastic settings with anti aliasing x2 and get a steady framerate of 30 fps.
- Cons: the first one of these i got was a faulty card. Thats about the only negative thing i could think of. but i returned it for another and now it works great =]
- Other Thoughts: Dont think twice about buying this card, you wont regret it.
Excellent GPU
- Pros: This is a fantastic card. Runs Bioshock, Unreal Tournament 3, etc. at max settings with steady frame rates; runs fairly quiet; and since it is based on the tried and true G92 chip you can rest assured it is a quality card. Since it is factory overclocked and runs everything I throw at it exceptionally well I see no reason to overclock it myself (at least for the moment being). A dominant GPU -- highly recommended for the price.
- Cons: Not really a con, but the stock fan speed of 32% is way too slow for this chip. As others have mentioned using riva tuner to up the fan speeds a little is the best plan. I set four different profiles to be used depending on the temp of the core and to no surprise it dramatically improved my temps. At stock fan speeds: Idle at ~60C, Load at ~75C. Using riva tuner: Idle at ~45C, Load at ~60C. Again, this is not really a con at all as it is easily remedied with riva tuner (my preferred app) among other software-based fan speed controllers. The only con that I can think of does not have to do with this card at all: Moore's law. Also, make sure that you have at least 10.5" of clearance (11" to be safe) in your case as this card is long.
- Other Thoughts: Just in case anyone is wondering, the riva tuner profiles I created are as follows:
Core temp: 0-52C fan speed at 40%; 53-65C fan speed at 65%; 66-80C fan speed at 80%; and >80C fan speed at 100%. I also have it set to 65% a startup. The card never has to go above 65% fan speed even under load. My system (built about 1 year ago -- the only thing that has been upgraded is the GPU): evga 680i sli mobo, core 2 duo e6750, maxtor 500GB hdd, 2GB crucial ballistix RAM (PC2 8500), xfx 9800GTX xxx GPU, and the rest of the typical stuff in a sytem. If you are looking for a reasonably priced GPU I don't think you can go wrong here. If my poor college budget allows, I may eventually pick up another one of these.
Awesome....and a great deal!
- Pros: I can play most every game i own at max res and max detail with acceptable frame rates. Microsoft Flight Sim X is the only exception. Considering I have a single P4 3.2 proc, i can't expect too much. This is a great deal and you shouldn't pass it up.
- Cons: Other than just the shear size of this beast, I find no cons to speak of.
- Other Thoughts: Make sure you measure your case....or you will have to do some interior modifications.
