5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I have the 1gb version and it runs most EVERYTHING I give it perfectly at 1080p...91 fps on CoD: WaW (could do better but my processor is bottle necking the system)!!!
Right now i have it overclocked at 675/2266 running at 54c load 46c idle around 70% fan during games!!! the stock cooling is amazing and i don't hear it over my 3 80mm case fans!!
Also it only takes 1 6pin power cable!!
The warranty is amazing, XFX will replace even if you overclock!!!(but it cant be returned because you fried it OCing)

Cons: I didnt buy at NewEgg :( .... so i payed way too much

Not DirectX 11

This card is huge so make sure you can fit it in your case!!

Other Thoughts: XFX 4850 OC 675/2266
ECS gf8200a
Athlon 64 x2 5600+ 2.9ghz
4gb ddr2 800
500gb WD sata
Samsung DVD RW

5 out of 5 eggsBang for buck

Pros: - dual slot
- variable fan is bearable up untill 95% in my case( at 95 it starts to make that " whine " noise.
- cheap
- plays crysis at veary high @ 1280x1024 and high at 1080p

all in all im veary happy i purchased this thing, it is a beast

Cons: sometimes after playing for a while the screen has a veary slight liquify effect, at first i thought it might be overheating, but the temps never went over 49c.
so i suspect driver issue.

Other Thoughts: i have tried this card with wow, warhammer online, borderlands, cod4, and crysis.
it kills them all.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Runs every source game available at max settings. At 1440x900, I never see any visible lag even with 8xAA and 16xAF. Pretty impressive considering my cpu is a pentium dual-core.

It idles around 45 degrees at 50% fan speed, which I consider acceptable. The fan is quiet up until around 70%.

Cons: In L4D2, I get 80+ fps most of the time, but I've seen it go as low as 30 during extreme action...but I can't complain since I got it for $80.

The 4870 doesn't cost much more, but it has better clocks and uses GDDR5 memory. It's probably the best bang for the buck.

I don't understand the price; this is the cheapest 4850 on newegg, and they were around $95 a few weeks ago.

Other Thoughts: If you're putting together a gaming rig but don't have much to spend, this is clearly the best choice. It will run any game, most on high/max settings. I would definitely recommend it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card stays cool

Pros: * Stays cool 49c under load@ 650 mhz gpu clock, and 1100mhz memory (2200mhz effective)
* Vents air out of the case (Blower style cooling)
* Modifier friendly, meaning you can switch out the cooler/heatsink without voiding warranty *be sure to keep old cooler/heatsink incase of RMA*
* Overclocking safe via ATI utility, it won't void the warranty unless you do voltage mods.
* Double lifetime warranty, meaning warranty transfers to a new owner.

Cons: * Can run hot when taken right out of the box, you need to "break" it in for a few hours. You can do this running 3dmark06 a few times. I remember it ran 55c-60c out of the box, but now it's down to 43c idle, and 49c load for 2-3 hrs.
* Overclocking seems to completely decimate life time expectancy using stock cooler.

Other Thoughts: These things are not very reliable in the long run, mine needs to get RMA'd since it has begun failing/crashing a lot even under stock clocks. I have heard of many of XFX HD 4850-HD 4870s (they use the same ATI RV770 GPU) doing the same thing after a few months of use. The crashes happen with any game which pushes the card to anything past 90% load. It's beginning to worry me because I keep getting BSOD's, and can't enjoy the games I play. The performance on the card has also deteriorated, lagging in games with low requirements like left 4 dead 1 and 2, when before even under the heaviest of scenes the card would not have high frame drops. I am sure this has to do with the card seemingly dying. I will attempt an RMA before the card completely gives out.
I dont think I will purchase XFX again, since I do want overclocking reliability. I am not saying XFX has bad products, but these cards are not overclock friendly.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Runs very fast, plays most games I throw at it at high settings. Very much worth the value.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: When I installed it I got bluescreens every so often, it seemed to be a problem with ATIKMDAG.sys. It was more a problem with Windows 7, however, because after disabling the "feature" that recovers the video drivers when Windows thinks it is about to crash I never saw a bluescreen again. If you get this problem then try disabling the feature in the registry.

1 out of 5 eggsgood while it runs

Pros: Graphics look awesome for about 5 min and it will handle any game you throw at it almost max settings.

Cons: Crashed after a max of 5 min in most games. My fav GTA4 would have crazy glitches where the car your driving would stop but the audio would continue. then the card would either black out and reset or crash and give the "out of video memory" error. Some times it would crash the whole comp. Games would run more reliably in low setting on my x1650. I called there support, spent 10 bucks to ship it to CA (i live in PA) waited 4 weeks and got my GFX back saying they replaced my card. The card i got back crashed even quicker then my old one and the rear bracket was bent so much i had to use a pair of pliers to get it in my case.

Other Thoughts: I have a 1000 watt PSU, q6600 cpu and 4 gigs of ram.

Manufacturer Response:

I am sorry to hear that you received a replacement that was damaged during shipping. Please call us at 800-880-3225. Give the support rep your previous RMA number and we will be able to get that card replaced for you. Thank you.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Good overall performance. No overheating problems at all [at least when the case side was open], stayed at 55-60C even when I couldn't control the fan speed before the Driver Installation.

AMD is REALLY coming along with their driver support, each release seems to be faster and faster. I'm happy.

Cons: I was kinda expecting the air to be ported directly out of the back vents, but it spews into the case some, especially at lower speeds. Really not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: For this price... GO FOR IT.

2 out of 5 eggsWas a great card...while it worked

Pros: Plays Crysis on High with playable framerates, Sf4, and any
other game out there.

Cons: Didn't last long. 5 days after my newegg 30 day return policy
ran out, It started giving artifacts while playing a game, BSOD, and now everytime I boot up the computer with it, there are artifacts all over the screen.

Other Thoughts: XFX's lifetime warranty is very nice. I had a similar problem with my 6800gs(but after 3 years of use) and got a replacement swiftly(albeit a 8400gs without a fan....), but it was enough to hold me over until I picked up this card. Hope the replacement I get actually has a fan on it...
