5 out of 5 eggsBig Bang for the Buck

Pros: Awesome graphics and performance on this card for the $200 mark. This card has ran everything I've thrown at it. Crysis, GTA 4, NWN 2, Empire Total War, just bought every game I have runs maxed out with no frame loss or stutters.
Definately a card you should not overlook for the price.

system specs>>> Phenom 2 x4 940 3.0 ghz, 6gb kingston hyperx ddr2, XFX HD4890XT, 1TB Sata 3.0 HD,

Cons: Not really a con but the card is LONG. Make sure you have the room in your case for it. Got mine to fit but had to move a hard drive around. Should of bought 2 of these

Other Thoughts: Wish I would of bought two of these cards, they're amazing..

3 out of 5 eggsProblems

Pros: Running in SD on a RGB connection to my 42"hdtv this card runs every game I could want to play exceptionally.

Cons: Terrible ATI tech support. Terrible XFX support. Having an issue getting my hdtv to detect in CCC with a dvi-hdmi adapter. (included with card)

Other Thoughts: Tech support suggested RMA so I will be replacing with an NVIDIA card.

If it werent for this issue which is a big one for me I would be 100% happy with my purchase.

2 out of 5 eggsdied on the first week

Pros: this card is great if you consider the price that you are getting.

Cons: this card tends to overheat, so please use fan at 100% on load. the extra 25 MHz did not make any difference.

Other Thoughts: wish i had bought the standard version with the double live time warranty.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear that you have had a problem. Please contact our support team at This card does qualify for our double lifetime warranty. Make sure to register your card within thirty days of purchase to activate the extended warranty. Thank you.

3 out of 5 eggsnice

Pros: Life warranty

Cons: The Red enclosing sucks since it keeps all the heat inside. we now have cases with awesome airflow that will take the heat out.
The fan is just so LOUD it is NOT silent at all. My cards iddles at 70C and when i am not using the computer it drops to just 67C. When gaming TF2 it goes to 102C before the auto fan comes on and the noise just becomes so annoying.

Other Thoughts: I had to notched down the settings for Lost Planet since the frame rate will drop to 11 when fighting a big monster. It is disappointing that i am not able to run Lost Planet at high settings even though its an older game.

Dont get this card if you are looking for a silent module

5 out of 5 eggsThe HD4890

Pros: Wow, what a great card. I started out with my first graphics card, a 9600, then to a x1950pro, and now this beast of a card. I am very happy with this purchase, ATi does a great job of making AFFORDABLE cards. Why buy a GTX295 when this card can run the same games for less(if your not into benchmarking)? You can run two of these for the same price as one nVidia 295. Not saying I am an ATi fanboy... My next card will be an nVidia unless if ATi comes out with a beastier card (I am into benchmarking). I was able to boost my card to 925 core/ 1025 memory. Not as good as I wished for an overclock, wish there was an easy way to do voltages. Overall, great card. Never ever had it crash on me except when I was overclocking. Oh, and YES this card can run Crysis maxed out. Maybe not at stock clock speeds but overclocked, yes. Oh and it comes with a nifty door hanger that says "Do not disturb, I'm gaming" RAD!

Cons: Basically nothing really.

Only things I don't like are minor:

Wish there was a way to raise the voltages
Wish the fan wasn't so loud (I put it on 100%, walked to the other corner of the house and I could still hear it! but you can barely hear it unless if you max out Crysis)
Wish it ran a little cooler (but all cards run hot nowadays, I'm going to liquid cool it soon)
Wish the logo was cooler.

Other Thoughts: Excellent. Buy it! Such a good value!

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 2.66 OC to 3.36GHz on stock voltages, stock cooling (pretty good for not raising the voltages(:
HD4890 OC to 925/1025 from 850/3.9
4GB 1066 RAM
10000RPM WD Velociraptor, 150GB
Corsair TX750 (has to be the best and toughest PSU I've used)
Xoxide Xclear Acrylic case
Custom Watercooling for the CPU and GPU coming soon!

Newegg Rocks.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card! Love XFX

Pros: Runs fast. My card has not had any heating problems. I manually set the fan speed to stay at just 32% and it keeps the card 50C idle, 65C load, which is very good for such a fast GPU. Also you have to love XFX's support and Double Lifetime warranty. I know that if I ever need some help, it's there.

Cons: It is very long, but all cards are these days. The fan isn't too loud and I can't even hear it over my other case fans.

Other Thoughts: I got this with a $20 rebate and forgot to send in my invoice with the rebate form. XFX was so fast and kind that they sent me a reply a week later informing me and requesting the needed invoice. I sent it in and got my rebate check the week later!

2 out of 5 eggsSpend more

Pros: Cheap. Dbl lifetime warranty.

Cons: Poor performance, cheap construction.

Other Thoughts: This is the 2nd card I installed in my build as I RMA'd the first one because of poor performance...well the 2nd one was poor also so I got a refund. It was intended to replace my PNY gtx260 core 216 but unfortunately my 260 outperformed this 4890. I scored 2500 more 3dmarks with the 260 and also in World in crisis only averaged 29 fps while my 260 ran at 49 fps. I Did several fresh reinstallations and couldn't get it to perform for me. The first thing i noticed right out of the box is its light weight and cheaper construction of my 260. I'm no nvidia fanboy and really wanted to give ati a shot but I am very disappointing in the product :(

Manufacturer Response:

Sorry to hear of the problems. Did you start a support ticket on our support site? If so can you email me the ticket number at so I can review the details?

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It works. It's fast.

Cons: It's huge. It's hot. But aren't they all nowadays?

Other Thoughts: Upgraded from a 4850 card and haven't been disapointed in my choice. I figure I won't pickup a DX11 card for at least a year, so the time (and the price) was right for this card. :)

1 out of 5 eggsVery Dissapointed

Pros: Cheap, fast, installed it ok.

Cons: Running very hot, on fan idle i had the card go up to the boiling point of 92ºC, if i crank up the fan speed first of all fan it's very loud and the temp doesn't drop below 60ºC even when the computer is on idle. Pretty large size.

Other Thoughts: Antec 900 case, GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD3R, G.SKILL Trident 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 2000, Intel i7 920,ZALMAN CNPS9700 LED 110mm, GIGABYTE GV-N285UD-1GH GeForce GTX 285.

Manufacturer Response:

Sorry to hear you are having problems. If you haven't done so already create a support ticket on our support site and report the temperatures you are seeing. You can also email me the support ticket number.
