4 out of 5 eggsStill going

Pros: I want to say I bought this card back in Jan of 2011, I payed over $400 for it brand new from this site and its still going strong, its actually in use right now. Ive started upgrading components here and there (mobo, CPU, SSD, PSU will be here soon) but the one thing I still have is my XFX 6970. I recently replaced the thermal pads and paste trying to get temps down, but its still going nearly 5 years later

Cons: HOT!!! Ive seen temps get to 91 C while playing battlefield 3 back when it was new, now Im using it to play FO4 but I cant max out settings anymore. I ordered another 6970 awhile back to Xfire this card with but had a few issues (not the cards fault) and only ran one card at a time. The other card isnt XFX nor stock cooler, but it seems to run much cooler, I don't notice the fan kicking on with the other one.

Other Thoughts: I would buy this card again, its the once piece of my system thats been the same for nearly 5 years, the only thing is I wish it had better cooling. I plan to upgrade soon but itll be in vain, multiple houses, multiple components, 2-3 dif girlfirends. but only one XFX. We had some good times my old friend.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the review, we really appreciate you taking the time to write it.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth the time or money

Pros: nothing really, it never worked properly over the few years I owned it

Cons: Card made my computer crash; regardless of load either playing heavy video games or computer sitting idle

XFX support has taken a long time to reply to my support requests.

First they no longer had my email address in their data base, they did however still have my video card SN so they allowed me to create a new account then file a claim.

Every correspondence had at least a few days in between. Keep in mind I build my own computer, I am in business, I was very descriptive of the issues and what I have done to try and resolve the issues.

Eventually they asked me if I had another computer I could try the card out in. Honestly how many people have multiple gaming computers sitting around. Seems a bit unreasonable to me.

Finally they issued me an RMA for this card, a card that has a known problem which I described to them. I have to say the RMA showed up after I mentioned I am a member of Hard Forum and will be sharing my full experience with XFX regarding this card

Other Thoughts: I don't have much faith in XFX anymore. I built a new computer trying to fix the issue, and replaced the motherboard on the new computer. Ends up it is the video card

Pros: works like a charm so far up untill now... so yeh...

Cons: sometimes doesn't recognise my monitor when i turn on my comp so thats not fun

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review! Which port is doing that? have you tried swapping the cables/adapters/monitors to see if its not just a minor signal issue?

3 out of 5 eggsGood card, some faults

Pros: Runs everything with at least 50 fps with 2 monitors up

Cons: Had an issue on World of Warcraft where i couldnt run the game in anything past Good without severe screen freezing.
Card runs very hot without increasing fan speed.
Catalyst Control Center is a pain to use, always changing my settings around.

This card is gigantic. I bought a mid-size tower and had to cut out the rivets in the bottom bracket to get the card to fit.

Other Thoughts: I havent had many major problems with this card, worth a little more money that i would have liked to pay for what i have gotten.

Unless you are getting this card for a really good deal, I would go with another card

1 out of 5 eggsGood thing it's discontinued

Pros: None.

Cons: I don't even know where to begin. I was going to share my frustrating story with this card but since it's discontinued I don't feel a big need to warn anyone that much. Just stay away from this card altogether. XFX has willingly allowed me to RMA my card and I'm about to RMA my second card. But as far as providing suggestions for me to figure it out by myself?- they've been worthless. I have felt more tech savvy than their support. Stay away!

Other Thoughts: The main game I've been trying to play is Civilization 5. I was able to run it on max settings to begin but then screen would turn off after about 15-20 minutes of playing but computer would stay on. I had to hold the reset button just to get the computer to come back on. I would have to wait a while for it to work again cause the card got so hot.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, We're sorry you had an overheating issue with this card. Unfortunately our tech support is limited to resolving issues with broken components, we typically just replace the unit/fan instead of trying to rebuild a fan component. We hope you have had a desirable experience with our warranty service and encourage you to contact us if you have any further questions.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Card

Pros: - Fast
- Stable
- Low Temps (65c-75c)
- Powerful
- High FPS @ Max settings, any game

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I now have this XFX 6970 and the Asus 6970 in Crossfire. I am nearly getting double frames versus a single card. Went from X1895 score on 3D Mark 11 on extreme to X3650 and from P5719 to P9322 on performance. Very happy with the purchase, the scaling is great and it was cheaper then my 1st card was a year ago.

5 out of 5 eggsCrossfire FTW

Pros: Been running this in crossfire for a year so far, only 1 problem listed below. Can play any game maxed out, 1920x1080, 120hz.

Cons: Had one problem with 3d and crossfire, but i eventually solved it.

I reformatted my rig, reinstalled the essentials, and I was able to get xfire to enable and disable again. Once i finished hooking up perepherals and playing around a bit I lost the option to enable and disable again!!

I found out what was causing it, when i started my PC with a monitor plugged into the Nvidia GT430 card the option would not be there, when i start my computer and plug in my monitor after it has booted into windows the enable / disable crossfire button is there!

Other Thoughts: An amazing setup, may have overspent on 2 cards, but for over a year, and running everything like a boss, worth it. I just wanted to try dual card.

People said, "get 6950 and OC it to get 6970 for cheaper"

I got 6970, and out preformed the 6950 overclocks with ease, so come at me bro
