This exclusive design allows fan speeds to be kept lower, while allowing the heat to dissipate evenly through the card without excess noise. XFX’s exclusive Ghost Thermal design is complimented by its highly efficient HydroCell thermal solution which is a vapor chamber based on the same principles as heat-pipe technology, which uses a recirculation process and wick system for vaporization. XFX also introduces Duratec Professional Grade technology which represents XFX high standard for component quality. Graphics cards featuring Duratec standards offer high quality components such as 2oz Copper PCB, Solid Capacitors, Ferrite Iron Core Choke, IP-5X Certified Dust Free Fan, XFX’s exclusive bracket design for greater airflow and other quality performance enhancing components.

5 out of 5 eggsVery impressed

Pros: Bought this card to scrypt mine. I liked it so much decided to build a whole "budget" gaming system around it. I haven't been much of a gamer for the last 10 years, but my brother is. He put the card through it's paces with some Steam games and both he and I were VERY impressed. Lower power usage than we expected from reading online reviews of the 7970 cards power usage, less heat than expected (rarely breaks 70 degrees C even when GPU maxed out), and it's a LOT quieter than we expected compared to his 6970 GPU.

I couldn't be happier with my XFX 7970 Core Edition.

Cons: None that I have ran into after using the card for a couple months :)

Other Thoughts: Budget gaming system specs:

All parts used either bought as used parts from various sources or new (with rebates) to keep the price low off New Egg.

XFX 7970 GPU

Asus Rampage III Extreme mobo

16 GB Apotop 1600 DDR3 ram

128 GB Corsair SSD hard drive master

5 TB slave hard drive

Ultra eTorque H4b case

Raidmax 850w gold rated PSU

Asus DVD writer

RGB LED light strip for case lighting

Final build cost $710. Went slightly over the 700 I was shooting for but really pleased with end result.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card, even now 5/26/2013

Pros: Runs Metro: Last Light at almost maxed settings.

5 out of 5 eggsSimply the Best!

Pros: I'm able to run all Crysis games on Ultra settings, for optimal gaming experience & performance. That's enough said.
(and i'm not Crossfireing, just 1 single card)

This card is unbelievable. Love it 100% ... very happy.
If you can afford it, then get it. (Radeon actually just released a new updated 7970 GHz Edition with a bit of increased performance, so get that one.)

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great Card, Battlefield 3 on Ultra at 1080p with 60 fps
Got it on discount too

Cons: Didn't come with any mini-display port connectors which means I have to buy one and they cost a lot after the cost of the card

5 out of 5 eggsStill rocking out!!

Pros: Have had this card for a few months now, and it's still running strong. Found the BSODs were related to my RAM, not the 7970. Swapped RAM and now the BSODs have gone away. Got a 3x19" monitor Eyefinity setup going, and this card still rocks at least 60-90 FPS in most all games.

Cons: Ended up having to use the HDMI port for Eyefinity, instead of the DVI port, but that's more an inconvenience than anything else.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Card!

Pros: Great Card. Runs very stable - maxes out almost every single game @ 1920x1200

Price should be about $50.00 lower than a gtx 680 (saying this is the core edition).

2 year warranty is a pro because the warranty is transferable to anyone who ones this card within the original 2 years of launch...

Dual bios switch is nice for those you want to flash the bios (without worrying about completely toasting your card - because the other bios switch can rectify a bad flash...).

Comes with 3 awesome games

Cons: Price is still a little high
XFX got rid of the DoubleLifetime warranty with the 7 series...

Other Thoughts: Even though the GTX 680 is out, this card is still a great piece of hardware.

The card runs very cool and consumes a small amount of power.

LOL - I bought this card on January 9th 2012 and I'm just leaving a review now

5 out of 5 eggsWait

Pros: Absolutely takes everything I can throw at. No chokes, no judders, and no discernable rendering problems at the highest settings. This is with the 12.4 drivers from XFX and not the AMD version that crashed on installation. I waited for the 2nd reiteration of the XFX drivers and was rather happy I did.

Cons: Price point for two cards was high but then again, I almost purchased 2 4GB XFX cards before the 7970's were released.

Other Thoughts: Generally, I've found that waiting for at least two new driver releases after the originals via the XFX website works best. The AMD catalyst drivers are dicey at best.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome card

Pros: This card came in to replace two 5870s in Crossfire. This card has better performance in and out of DX11, takes less power, has more vRAM and doesn't have any of the Crossfire issues I've had with the two 5870s. And since it's only one GPU, down the road I can snag a second one and blast through anything that can choke this card. Speaking of which, even BF3 and Skyrim maxed out run smoothly on this card. XFX's warranty makes this card purchase a given.

Cons: Little on the pricey side, but this makes sense with a card this new.

Other Thoughts: Phenom II x6 + Radeon 7970 = Gaming bliss

5 out of 5 eggsSweet Card

Pros: Overclocks like a demon on water. Running at 1125 core/1575 memory at 1.2vcore. I could go higher but I like to use the GPU for folding so I want zero calculation errors.

Cons: Price, stock cooler was noisy when overclocking (though at stock clocks the cooler was pretty quiet).
