All of this combined with XFX’s award-winning Double Dissipation dual-fan design makes it one of the coolest and quietest cards on the market while simultaneously increasing overall graphics card performance.
  • newegg Duratec Professional Grade technology XFX introduces Duratec Professional Grade technology which represents XFX high standard for component quality. Graphics cards featuring Duratec standards offer high quality components such as 2oz Copper PCB, Solid Capacitors, Ferrite Iron Core Choke, IP-5X Certified Dust Free Fans, XFX’s exclusive bracket design for greater airflow and other quality performance enhancing components.

5 out of 5 eggsOwned this card since spring of '13

Pros: When i first installed this card in spring of '13 it ran Crysis 3 fantastic. The game just looked gorgeous. Now i can't say what settings i ran it at, bc i always customize mine. The main reason for purchasing this card was the last card i had been running was a Sapphire 5850 HD and it worked fine for BF3 but knowing that BF4 was on the horizon i wanted to update. It ran BF4 smooth as butter and i noticed no performance issues either (I use AMD catalyst control center as my primary monitoring prog). Same thing with Skyrim, Farming Sim 2015, and The Witcher 2. Again, i always set my graphics options personally & don't use presets. I was reading the reviews today, and noticed there pretty mixed. I may just be one of the fortunate individuals that got a well put together card. Otherwise i can't really complain about my experience with it over the past 2 yrs.

Cons: This may not exactly be the cards fault, and so therefore i didn't feel the necessity to dock an egg. The only thing i have noticed as of recently is that while playing The Witcher 3, I've had to keep an eye on the temp. of the card. While most of my past games run at a temp between 50 degrees C and 60 C with fan speeds around 50%. The Witcher 3 will heat the card into the high 60's & low 70's easily if the fan speed isn't running at least at 65%. Also i have noticed the activity monitor in my program showing an average of 98% activity will running the game. As i said above however, this could be due to AMD's lack of an optimized driver for this game as well. Other than that, this card hasn't done wrong by me.

Other Thoughts: Once again, i have read some of the more negative reviews users have experienced with this card, and i am only acknowledging my personal experience with said card

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Jesse,

Thank you for the great review. If you are noticing the temperatures reach 85'C, that means you have a fan starting to fail. We would happily replace that under warranty for you.

Thank you

1 out of 5 eggsXFX Deceptive Business practice

Pros: Was listed as having Lifetime warranty (though this is deceptive)

Cons: After having a faulty fan in the first 6 months of ownership they didn't replace the card, they mailed me a used heatsink/fan assly with worn and missing thermal compound pads. I ended up doing all the work myself to 'fix' their defective unit. This lasted about another year with occaisional annoying artifacts. Then suddenly my card won't POST. I contact support and they won't help. Then they inform me it's only a 2 year warranty. The Lifetime Warrany does not apply if you don't register in 30 days, however this was never stated on the product warranty card. Sounds like a Class Action Lawsuit to me...

I can never recommend XFX for anything, they just don't provide acceptable customer service or support, and mislead consumers. I have had much better service from other competitors video card manufacturers, like the ones with starting with A for example.

Other Thoughts: Their online support system sucks, and they don't reply for days and days on end. You're unable to contact them at a number so you just sit and wait... Poor communication and deceptive business practices. How can they advertise to retailers like NewEgg that they have a lifetime warranty and then refuse to honor it when it comes time for an RMA?

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Andrea, we're sorry you had issues with your card.

The warranty is a standard 2 years with our without registration.

The lifetime warraty is enabled when its registerred and upon proof of receipt (non-transferable).

If you have any questions, please let us know.

5 out of 5 eggsReview of XFX Customer Support XFX HD 7970

Pros: Wonderful card that can still max out most games.

Cons: Fans can be bit noisy. Can't overclock it

Other Thoughts: I'm writing this review more for XFX support than the card. I purchased this card from another vendor back in Dec, 2012. Great card, ran flawlessly until April 2015. April began artifacting and running a bit hot. I pulled the card and noticed a fan was hard to spin. I started an RMA, sent the card back and in 3 weeks XFX sent me back a brand new, in consumer box R9 280x. I was expecting a repaired HD 7970 and was pleasantly surprised by the new card. I only buy XFX cards because they honor their warranty. I have had HD 4770, 5870, 5970 and the 7970. Only had to RMA the 5870 and now the 7970. Both experiences were painless and simple. Thank you XFX. Krell, Kevin and Mark kept me updated and involved during the RMA process. You want to own a card worry free then buy XFX.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review and special vote of confidence.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible card and terrible RMA service

Pros: Pretty to look at?

Cons: I won't go over the some of the others issues, but the major ones I had with the card were -

-Artifacting. Even in browsers it could happen
- Video driver crashing - When watching streams and browsing the internet.
- Blue screening. Not even running anything.
- 3rd Monitor blinking. Completely sporadic and no rhyme or reason.
- Was worse when I was Crossfiring them.

I RMAed both cards with the same issues, but the RMA folks at XFX weren't very good at testing since I could replicate the issue with both cards and single cards. Items I tested and tried to fix with suggestions from other users online -

- Clean up drivers
- Edit registry keys
- Increase voltage (which you can't since it was locked)
- Buy different cables for the monitors
- Download 3rd party products to try to make it stable

None of these worked of course and I finally got fed up and bought a Sapphire 290x last week and it's working beautifully! None of the issues I had before with the same exact rig. Which makes me chuckle since XFX said it HAD to be something in my system that was causing the issue. Even though I had tested with another card I had and it worked fine AND there are numerous users here and across the internet complaining about the exact same issues.

Other Thoughts: I bought these when they were rated closer to 4 1/2 eggs than it's dismal current rating. I was part of the unlucky folks that got stuck with the 2.0 version of the card (supposedly the first iteration was far better). I had asked for a replacement of those cards, of course they didn't bother to say anything and sent the same cards back. I still had the SAME issues since I bought the darn things.

I upgraded to a Sapphire 290X and it's amazing. I don't know what I will do with the 2 of these cards I have. I may just give them to people and state they are likely going to be bad, use at your own risk.

I will never be a XFX buyer again. Terrible customer service and selling cards and then changing them? Bad form. There's a reason why these things are "Out of Stock"

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we're sorry you are having issues with your cards.

Please contact me at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com so i can revisit your case. Typically when a similar GPU works perfectly, we replace them anyway.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: none

Cons: when not crashing

Other Thoughts: have to lov it when they tell you to ship the card to them so you have to wait 3 weeks plus to run your computer

1 out of 5 eggsIf it doesn't crash it's great

Pros: It's great when it isn't crashing.

Cons: While playing games this card has a tendency to flash randomly coloured bars across the entire screen usually leading to the game crashing and sometimes a computer crash/restart/BSOD. This appears to be completely random as it happens while the card is at various temperatures while playing many different games with different amounts of background applications. I have tried absolutely everything to fix this and was able to by using an older Radeon HD6870 and by trying out a friend's 7970 from a different manufacturer. Placing the card in a different machine also caused the crashing issues.

Other Thoughts: I contacted XFX customer support and was issued a RMA and carried it out. Upon their testing they could not recreate the issues and mailed back the card. After everything I have done (many months trying to fix the issue) I cannot see any other thing being the problem.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible engineering & support

Pros: ?

Cons: Sticker on center of fan was not glued with decent glue. Round sticker moved off center and the lopsided weight killed the fan. Found other forums that discussed same issue. Filed request for new fan on XFX site. Finally techs agreed to send fan but then stopped replying to discussion on their own support forum. TERRIBLE DESIGN SKILLS (hint: buy the right glue) TERRIBLE SUPPORT

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Turnkit,

The fan glue hasn't shown us any issues, but initial placement may be off-center. Simply taking a razor blade and re-alligning the sticker would work. Also, removing it permanently will not void your warranty.

Please only respond to your ticket once when waiting for a reply, otherwise it puts you in the que to wait again.

sorry for the confusion, neweggsupport@xfxforce.com.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: This card kills BF4, Tomb raider, far cry 3, and pretty much any modern game you can throw at it. That may not mean you can out on 16x AA with ubersampling and expect to run at 60fps 1080p, but you can get 60fps 1080p with this card at really high settings regardless. For the money it is a great deal.

Cons: None really, i had some trouble when updated the drivers the first time. You're best bet might be sticking with the ones that come on the cd that came with the box. Other than that, no cons.

Other Thoughts: Runs cool too, and none too loud (although i guess that depends more on your computer case).

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review. If you have any issues, please contact us at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Great speeds
Looks nice
Keeps cool
Runs anything
Comes with a nice badge to show off your ownership.

Cons: HUGE! might not fit in smaller cases.

Other Thoughts: 6950 was good, 7970 is good, I'm sure the 8990 will be.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review. If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact me at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com
