1 out of 5 eggsGlitches

Pros: umm okay ?

Cons: GPU load would all of suddent drop to zero in games causes stutter and low FPS ~9-10 in Hitman Absolution what a waste
Sent back for refund.

Other Thoughts: Looked like card would enter sleep mode in the middle of game causing FPS drop.

I bought 660 OC gigabyte and no drops anymore + i got more FPS with 660 and paid 1.5 times Less $$

2 out of 5 eggsNice Video. Horrible Noise.

Pros: Runs things nicely at high resolution.

Cons: After a few months of use the fans are making a horribly loud buzzing noise. I've tested by removing the card from my system and the noise goes away. Add it back in and the noise is back.

For the price tag I'd find something different. I'm regretting my purchase of this.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, if its just a fan error, i can help you get a replacement shroud or resolve the issue you are having. Please contact me at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome card

Pros: Cost. OC capabilities

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This thing overclocked real well and did a great job in my eyefinity setup although I moved up to a 7970. Price wise this is the best buy since the 7970 was 100 more with marginal increase in performance, at least in eyefinity.

3 out of 5 eggsCrazy

Pros: The replacement 7970 is wonderful although not the best in it's class.

Cons: First one sent to me had artifacts and geometrical images.

Other Thoughts: So I had to RMA the first 7970 sent to me. It was already clocked at 1 GHz and at first I was pleasantly surprised. Artifacts all over the place and geometrical shapes. I eventually got it semi stable by under-clocking it down to 960 but still had artifacts like black squares flashing on the screen. Newegg did the RMA in a little over a week which is way faster than I had expected! 2nd card works perfectly. It's not as peowerful even they it clocked up to 1 ghz but no artifacts. IMO these xfx cards being sent out as non ghz are sometimes ones that didnt cut the mustard as 1ghz versions. Even though they have had their bios bumped up they are trying to sell them as the cheaper 7970. Not cool. I own 2 xfx 4870's, 1 4890, 1 5830, and 1 7950 along with this 7970, all from xfx. The 7950 was the best bang for the buck. So I'm not real happy with xfx on this one. I have an eyefinity system and the 7950 would idle at 58, the replacement 7970 idles at 44. If you get one with the artifacts and shapes send it back, it's not supposed to be that way!

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Lane68. we're sorry you are getting artifacting with your card. Obviously its not an intended byprodouct of usage thus we would happily replace it under warranty. Please contact me at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com and i will be happy to help you with this issue.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Card

Pros: Was a little hesitant after reading some of the reviews, but I've had it for about 3 months now and it has never given me any problems. Runs nearly everything I throw at it maxed out. I recently setup a three monitor eyefinity setup and it hasn't skipped a beat. It isn't the best 7970 you can get, but if you catch it on sale it can be a great deal.

Cons: Voltage locked! A little disappointed by this, but I can still get it overclocked past the GHZ edition.

Other Thoughts: Definitely not as bad as some of these reviews suggest. I'm glad I went for it.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Runs current games averaging over 40 fps on max setting with a 1080p monitor.

Cons: Can NOT run 3 displays at one time. My attempted configuration uses 3 1080p monitors using the mini Display Port, DVI, and HDMI outputs. It would allow a max of 2 monitors at a time.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello AznONEder, this model does support 3 monitors, but it has to be configured correctly. Please email me at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com so i can help configure your setup. Thank you

2 out of 5 eggsOverpriced and not recommended

Pros: Runs cool at idle(32c),unless you have more than one monitor in that case the video memory will not downclock and cause heat.(in the 50c range)
The overall look of the card is nice and it fits great in my case(haf932). The cooling design is nice(heatsink and double dissipation)- if the fans would work properly.
The lifetime warranty is always a pro...

Cons: The fans make terrible noise, i had to tighten one and loosen the other to make the noise stop.( this can be done by going through the fan blades, i did not take it apart.) Also the fans do not run high enough on their own to cool the card,I have to manually set them to 100% in CCC or i will get crashes after a few minutes with our without an overclock, 1 monitor or eyefinity. I was expecting better performance from the card, I have seen battlefield 3 dip in the 30fps area on a single monitor. I have yet to see driver updates for popular games i have owned for years, I have to manually set some of the 3d application settings in CCC and that is just annoying. Since the card has been out for a long time now you think that wouldnt be an issue.

Other Thoughts: I had to spend a lot of money on adapters to run eyefinity. They could at least give you one mini display port adapter.
I bought a second card pretty recently and discovered the locked voltage. The card would not overclock even 50MHz so I sold it right away. The performance for the price is not realistic unless you can overclock it. And if you are like me i cant risk to RMA my older card with all its issues because the newer cards are worse, so im stuck with an "OK" product i bought for over $400.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello J.M. The fans on this model sometimes scrape the shroud. Typically inspecting and slightly adjusting the shroud should resolve this. Its not intended this way and we can replace the shroud for you or the card itself. Also, we are willing to swap the Dual DVI models with the Single DVI models upon request. Okay, If you have any questions, feel free to contact us and let us know. neweggsupport@xfxforce.com

4 out of 5 eggsWhat a looker!

Pros: Solid design, great packaging, and rock solid performance!

Cons: LOUD! With a nice design like this, I would have loved to see a matching backplate.

Other Thoughts: I get a smooth 60fps on every game I throw at it. They become rather loud with just a few minutes of gameplay. Gets me a bit worried about lifespan. The CrossFireX bridges came in rather poor condition but they work. Would be nice if backplates were included.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Runs great. 65 degrees Celsius when is use. no graphics issues. easy drivers. also got it for $380 and the $30 rebate i never filed for.

Cons: Didnt get the right card. 797A-TDBC not TDFC. one less dvi port. so i'll have to get a display adapter eventually. had a slight residuie look to the board also. scratches on some of the chrome. cant be perfect though.

2 out of 5 eggsDefinitely Disappointed

Pros: - Functions (technically)
- Powerful
- Nice aesthetics

Cons: - Fans sound as if they're out of balance (any speed above 50% is definitely noticeable, 70% is intolerable)
- Graphical artifacts after heavy use despite mild GPU core temperature (I'd love to see if it's the memory chips over heating or maybe an issue of heat on the VRM, but of course, there's no sensor monitoring those things)
- Strange horizontal refresh line on one display in a EyeFinity array, regardless of settings and connections.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this card as a gift for my brother. I needed a single, powerful card for an ITX build in a Prodigy I was planning. It would be driving 3 1080p displays. Got the thing setup after Christmas and it finally got a chance to be really tested. (I had done some brief gaming on it and some crunching just to make sure it wasn't DoA) For whatever reason, maybe it's a quirk of EyeFinity, but there is a noticeable refresh line on one display in the array at all times. At first, I thought it was the ActiveMiniDP adapter, but then it moved to the DVI display, and then to the HDMI one. Changing the desktop resolution is enough to upset it and send it randomly to a different display. While annoying, so long as it isn't on the center screen, it doesn't matter much. The artifacts occur after extended periods at high load. Alt+Tab does the trick, but another nuisance. GPU temp maxes at 70C, so that's not it, either. I had hoped for a little better quality after my XFX 4870s lasted years.
