5 out of 5 eggsCore Edition 7870

Pros: Upgraded from 4890 when they split the driver models. Easy to overclock, newest drivers allow power control without additional software. Has been very solid. Crossfire scales very well on many newer games and if this card is ever on sale($200-$220) these in crossfire would cost less and get way better performance than a single 7970. With the current game deals from AMD this is excelent single card value. Better card than the 660 Ti and it cost less.

Cons: Got mine with rebate before the Tomb Raider and BioS Inf. Promo-would have been more value to me than the rebate as I bought both games latter. As always, ignore factory drivers-there have been too many improvements in the latest ones to bother.

Other Thoughts: Out of the box I can run the card at 1125Mhz GPU Clock, 1350Mhz Memory, 60% fan and +20% power (CCC settings-no voltage tweaks). This gives a consistent 25% performance boost on games like Tomb Raider. I run the fan at 60% because the room I am in is very warm-yet it is very stable at these settings. Ignore reviews that say otherwise. This card will not have a problem with any game for quite some time. At 60% fan speed it makes less noise than my 4890 did at 40% fan speed.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Beautiful graphic output, image quality. Fits nicely into case, looks sleek. Whisper quiet in low-demand environment.
Handles every game I've played at highest graphics settings without a problem.
Free Bioshock Infinite, TR, and FC3:BD are awesome bonuses for the value. All play great with this card.
Audible immediately when it boots into high gear.

Cons: Signal did not output for more than a few minutes when I first installed. Found that the thin metal was bent just slightly and prevented fan from spinning. Not much I could do to bend back into place by hand, but I placed a couple of tightly-folded wads of paper that have given the fan enough clearance at this point.
Can be a bit noisy during gaming. Mostly the noises sound normal, but I've had some mysterious ones that made me nervous enough to turn my game off and let it cool down.

Other Thoughts: I can't speak for longevity yet as I've only been using this card a few months. So far, once I got past the initial problem with fan clearance, it has been great, and its ability to take extra-high settings seem almost effortless.

1 out of 5 eggsDead after 1 month usage

Pros: Worked great for 1 month, was able to handle BioShock Infinite & Tomb Raider @ ultra high setting.

Cons: First AMD card i tried, dead after 1 month usage.
The card constant freezes every 10-15 minute, then requires reboot.
Switch back to my old Nvidia GTX 260, everything is fine.
Requested RMA for the product with XFX. XFX received defective product over 2 week, still havn't receive a single reply.
AMD provided great service with this purchase, free bioshock, tomb raider and far cry 3 blood dragon.
However, this manufacturer doesnt seem to provide its support. There is literally no way to contact XFX other than email, which they don't respond. I would really think twice of buying XFX products ever again.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, please contact me at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com if you are still having trouble accessing your ticket responses. Thank you

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Owned for a few months now. Card runs great. Purchased for a new build, primarily for gaming. I'm doing fine on a single card, but I may purchase another in the future to take advantage of Xfire.

Cons: Had some initial usage problems. Card heated up to over 90 deg during first time usage and couldn't figure out why. After trying to adjust fan speed, multiple restarts and not getting anywhere, I took the card out to find that the metal enclosure was bent JUST enough to keep the fan from moving. Had to take the enclosure off and bend it outward to allow for fan rotation. Can't be sure if it arrived like that or did it myself during installation. Either way, afterwards it ran smooth and has been great since.

Pros: None

Cons: When I booted up my new system, this card did not output any video signal. I looked in the case and noticed the fan was not spinning. After I took the card out of the case, I noticed the metal body of the card was butted up to the fan, preventing it from spinning freely. The fact that I was not getting any video signal must have been from another defect as my 660ti worked just fine. Hopefully I can get it exchanged for one that works.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Before getting this card I was still rocking a 5770 from 3 years ago, which when I purchased it was about the same price as this card ($200~). This card more than doubled my framerate in every game and benchmark I've tried, truly a worthy upgrade.

Cons: Graphic card technology in general has gotten pretty stagnant. While I did get double performance of the 5770, it's 3 years later. Moore's law says technology doubles in speed every 18 months, but this is more than double that and I'm only getting twice the speed. It's not the graphic card's fault obviously, so no points taken away.

Other Thoughts: AMD cards currently come with 2 free games. This one specifically with the new Tomb Raider and Bio Shock Infinite. These games are worth $100 if you buy them on steam right now, if you have an interest in either (or both) of these games, that's about half the price of the card you just saved. Absolutely crazy. Even if you don't want to keep both or either of them, they come as seperate steam keys... meaning you can trade or sell one or both of them and get essentially a huge discount on this card.

3 out of 5 eggs1st one bad

Pros: Well. Honestly I should have went with the nividia gtx660 ti like I had planned. This card does work ok if you get a good one. Came with 2 games.

Cons: My first on would crash under heavy load. WEI would crash it. Took me a week to rma beacuse of work. Then it took about 2 weeks to get my new one. They should have gave me the farcry 3 for my wait.

Other Thoughts: Thank goodness I still had my old evga gtx 560 laying around. Im really not all that happy with this purchase. Ill live with it I guess untill direct x 12 comes out

4 out of 5 eggsCan't Overclock

Pros: The price was great, and the coupon for the games is a score.

4/5 eggs for fairness considering I believe the problem to lie with the catalyst drivers. (see below)

Cons: The card can't overclock at all. As soon as I pump up the memory or the core I bluescreen. I've been reading reviews of other 7870 cards and a lot of them seem to have this issue.

I don't know if it's the card or the drivers, part of me leans toward the drivers, though, since multiple manufacturers are having trouble. There's apparently no real fix for this issue.

I would suggest staying away from the 7870 line and perhaps going to a 7890.
