3 out of 5 eggsNot horrible, not great?

Pros: Great for gaming, very fast, play just about everything 1080p full settings as long as you don't crank AA through the roof, pretty quiet for a 2 fan card.

Cons: Bought 2 of these for separate machines, one of them has started doing this thing where every 2-3 minutes it does a "reset" and the screens flash. It acts like there is a current leak somewhere which is either building up and discharging, or causing voltage drop forcing some capacitor to re-charge.

Also don't buy anything from XFX if you're expecting to save money with a mail in rebate, the hoops they make you jump through just aren't even worth the trouble, and if you get unlucky like me you'll get the devices literally 5 days before the rebate period expires.

Other Thoughts: One other thing to watch out for, more a problem with AMD rather than XFX- The "free games" that come with these cards are all either uplay or Origin store copies only, if you're like most gamers and hate EA for ruining many aspects of gaming then you're outta luck, no steam keys at all.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

The rebate company that works with Newegg is not XFX, its 4myrebate.com. We are happy to help resolve any isues you have, please contact us at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com.

Thank you

1 out of 5 eggsWas a nice card, but failed at 6 month mark.

Pros: It was nice while it lasted.
luckily it didn't damage my system when i failed.

Cons: fire came out the bottom.

Other Thoughts: Not Newegg's fault. They didn't make it, BUT I had this card running dual screens and very little gaming. mostly graphic design work. Card was overkill for everyday use. I occasionally play a game or 2. probably less than 12 hours "gaming" on the card and it failed hard this morning. No idea if there is a warranty on this card, but i am disappointing that 6 months after spending my money i have nothing...

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Jeremy,

That is terrible news. please contact us at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com and create a ticket at xfxsupport.com

3 out of 5 eggsPretty Hot

Pros: High FPS in Games
Looks nice
Loads of RAM
Fans quiet when idle

Cons: Runs really hot (58*C in IDLE and up to 78*C under load)
Fans get really loud und load. Sounds like a Hairdryer in my case.

Other Thoughts: My case is well ventilated. Core temp under load not higher than 40*C and CPU also not going over 45*C
However my XFX 7950 gets really hot!
When it idles the fans are at about 900RPM but the heat goes up to 58*C (thats idle on the desktop doing nothing) when under load (playing Battlefield 4 for example) the fans spin up and get really lound but can barely keep the temp under 80*C (mostly around 78*C)
Reading reviews online it seems like this is not the norm.

Im using the latest Catalyst (14.4)
Windows 8.1 64Bit
AMD Phenom X4 965 @3,8GHZ
ASrock 970 extreme3

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, GPU's are suppose to get hot. 78'C is a very reasonable termperature.

If the card breaks 90'C, its a sign maybe a fan is failling. If so, please contact us and let us know.

Thank you

4 out of 5 eggsReplace thermal paste

Pros: Its a great card! It runs every thing i throw at it runs Crysis 3 max at 40fps and every other game at 60fps

Cons: Had to replace thermal paste due to the fact they used the whole bottle of Paste on it making the heat not transfer but cleaning the paste make good temps and msi afterburner to control the fans.would not recommend for 4k gaming with our crossfire

Manufacturer Response:

Hello and thank you for the great review!

We are happy you are pleased. Please contact us at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com for further support.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Card. Use Another Manufacturer

Pros: Strong card handles all my online gaming with better than average settings. My board is only a PCIe 2.0 so I can imagine it running even better on a PCIe 3.0 board.

Cons: The manufacturer XFX is not a company of their word in my last two experiences with the Hong Kong company. The Personal Activation Code (bonus goodies) that came with the card was never honored in both instances. The hoops one must jump through to get any kind of support when addressing my issue months later is not worth the frustration; other manufactures are out there for the HD 7950.

Other Thoughts: The fans run quiet and will speed up slightly when the card is in Overdrive. I like to go into Catalyst Control Panel and run the fans manually at 70% when I game. It keeps the card at 40-42 C but, does make a considerable amount of "whine" from the dual fans. I'm OK with that when gaming.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We're sorry you are having issues with the promotion.

If you still need help resolving this issue, please contact us at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com.

3 out of 5 eggsMixed

Pros: 1. Great performer
2. Limited life-time warranty
3. Decent heatsink

Cons: 1. Durability: especially with fans

Other Thoughts: We bought 6 of these cards last November to be used in mining rigs. After 4 months, only 1 of them survived. You can argue that these cards aren't meant for mining, but other video cards from other manufacturers are still running without any issue.

I am in the middle of RMAing these cards, so I will update my score accordingly base on my experience.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Hoozah, Unfortunately alot of people mined on these cards without changing the voltage or used incorrect clock settings.

Fortunately, the replacements we send you should help resolve any previous issues.

Thank you for your review.

4 out of 5 eggsPower hog

Pros: Performs as expected

Cons: Requires both a 6-pin PCIe power connector AND an 8-pin PCIe power connector but does not come with any molex-to-PCIe adapters.

Consumes over 350W under load.

Requires lots of case fans.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We would be happy to help any overheating issues you may have, but it sounds like the card is running fine.

For the others viewers reference whom may get confused, this card is not capable of using 350Watts, a 290x consumes up to 293 Watts. This card is roughly 210-250 watts depending on the usage.

Please contact us if you feel that your card is not acting as it should be. neweggsupport@xfxforce.com
