XFX Ghost Thermal 2.0 Technology

The New and Improved Floating Heatsink Design of XFX Graphics Cards Provides the Ultimate Cooling Solution

XFX's exclusive ghost thermal 2.0 design creates a floating heatsink with open airflow between the PCB and the cover so that air can quickly ventilate off the card while simultaneously cooling the core process and the components. We've also made major advances from our first generation which includes a heat tested light weight plastic to create an overall lighter thermal which reduces the physical strain on your GPU.

Up to 13dB Quieter and 45°F (7°C) Cooler Than Our Competitors

The Exclusive XFX Double Dissipation Design is Cooler and Quieter than Others

XFX's exclusive dual fan double dissipation design utilizes two larger fans which run at slower RPM than comparable single fan solutions which must run at much higher RPMs just to barely achieve the same cooling needs. Because of this design, XFX is able to achieve up to 13dB lower noise than the competitor while simultaneously increasing the overall cooling by 45°F (7°C).

Improved Multi Sample Anti-Aliasing MSAA Technology

Smooth Lines Make All the Difference Between Itty-Bitty Low-Quality Graphics Versus Smooth, Realistic Graphics

MSAA smooths out the jagged edges of a curved object. A black curved line on a white background displayed on a computer screen will have some jaggedness along its edges due to the inherent limitations of using discrete pixels to display the image. Anti-aliasing smooths out this jaggedness by filling in the white spaces between the jagged edges with varying shades of gray which gives you the smooth soft shadows, crisp sharp lines of buildings, and crisp tiny details in clothing that make your experience truly realistic.

Bullet Physics Engine Technology

Get the Most Out of Your Gaming Experience with Real 3D Physics

Take advantage of the 3D Physics capabilities of some of today's newest titles which include completely destructible objects, walls and buildings collapsing from gun fire, real particle effects such as fire that react to the environment and realistic details such as moving hair, water and much more.

Compatible with the newest Direct X Technology

Meets the Standards of the Newest Games with the Latest Direct X Driver Compatibility

With every new generation of Direct X, major improvements are made which greatly advance the graphics capabilities of games. That's why it is essential to ensure that you are using a graphics card with the newest Direct X driver compatibility so that you'll get the most out of your gaming experience. See the difference for yourself.

6X Tesselation Technology

The Details of Tesselations can Make the Difference Between a Flat, Dull Surface and a Realistic Bumpy Surface

XFX graphics cards offer the highest tesselation capabilities while still maintaining the higest performance. We don't sacrifice one for the other so you can expect to get the riches detail in your games without slowing down your gaming experience. See bumpy roads, textured fabrics and realistic rippling waters with high tesselated graphics from XFX.

3 out of 5 eggsIt's not as bad as it could be...

Pros: It's faster than most of the benchmarks let on - I haven't found a game yet that gets under 60FPS maxed out with this card. That is, when the drivers work...

Cons: AMD's drivers are, and generally have been, pretty much garbage. I had countless driver issues with my HD6670, and upgrading to this mitigated a large amount of them. However, with the most recent update to 15.7, I get constant blue screens when doing things as basic as browsing the internet. When it wasn't blue screening, it just wouldn't run things right. Battlefield 4 had unplayable audio glitches that weren't present before the update. I've since rolled back to 14.12 Omega, and all of the problems are gone.

This card also runs hot, it's sitting at 45C idle with just Chrome open. Gaming ramps it up to 75-80C.

Other Thoughts: If you're getting this card for gaming, it'll run most games pretty much flawlessly. Mantle support is nice, for the few games that use it (Thief and BF4 run notably better with Mantle). But if you're a serious user or you plan to stick with whatever you buy for a while, definitely spend the extra money to get a GTX970. The driver issues and heat make a great card pretty mediocre.
inb4 "970 has 3.5GB": This card has 3GB VRAM, which I've never saturated playing games maxed out in 1080p. If you're buying either card for anything more than 1080p, you're better off buying more expensive cards. You won't saturate 3GB, you won't saturate 4GB either.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Brendan,

We're glad everything is working as intended. If you have any questions, please let us knpw.

5 out of 5 eggsA. Mazing.

Pros: This card is very high performing and is good power to price performance. The 3gb of vram makes gaming at 1080p smooth and looking great. I occasionally upscaled up to 1440p for some games to enjoy better textures and this card tanked it like a boss. This card also boasts a life time warranty.

Cons: This card runs HOT. I never felt heat really push out of my system until installing this card and when I had decided to upgrade my CPU a few weeks ago I began to have the need to put a fan on my desk to cool me off on hot summer days. (Winter couldn't come any sooner!). As mentioned to this card requires a lot of CPU power. I had this card running on a Phenom x4 clocked at 3.8ghz and I had a huge bottle neck. Only after upgrading to the FX-8350 (x8 4.2ghz turbo), did I realize the strength of this card and boy am I impressed!

Other Thoughts: Frame rates on: AMD FX-8350 turboed to 4.2ghz, 8gb of 1600mhz of ram, and this GPU.

1080p Ultra settings only, recorded w/ fraps benchmarks (min and max fps):
League of Legends: 120-304fps
Black Ops 2: 122-336
Advanced Warfare: 77-
Path of Exile: 77-336
GTA V (no advanced settings): 44-103

1 out of 5 eggsCursed card

Pros: Has a pleasing weight. Only destroyed one motherboard!

Cons: It was completely nonfunctional. Installation instructions are somewhat hazy, also.

Other Thoughts: The installation instructions are very vague, making the connection process to the PSU confusing. It killed my motherboard somehow during the first boot up cycle. I recklessly installed a new motherboard and, thinking it was a power issue, I replaced the PSU. It was not, however, and the computer still did not boot up. Researching this problem online indicated that it is a common issue and the manufacturer is unwilling to deal with it in any meaningful way.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Kenneth,

We're sorry you are having issues with your cards. If you are still having trouble getting warranty servicing, please let me know.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card for the price

Pros: Was looking to update my wife's computer so we can play games together and this was the answer at a good price.
Fans are only loud when pushing their settings.
We are playing games like Witcher 3, DayZ, and Elite Dangerous. This card is performing at highest settings no overclocking and good framerates, That's all we asked for lol

Cons: No issues as of right now.

Other Thoughts: I went to install this on my wife's computer. Sadly I forgot to order a new PSU to support it lol.
So I wanted to test and make sure it worked and threw it in my computer. Updated drivers and all works very smooth. doesn't overheat.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello and thank you for the great review. We appreciate your time and kind words.

If you have any issues, please let us know.

2 out of 5 eggsBe aware

Pros: Very quiet. Very powerful. Well-made. Easy installation.

Cons: Doesn't support games that use the Physx adapter.

Other Thoughts: This is a great card so long as you're not expecting to be able to play any of the games that really thrive in the Physx space. Examples include: Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Skyrim, Shadow of Mordor, and Crysis 3. There are others. This is a great card- if you're aware of when it is limited. I sold mine to buy an Nvidia card so I can take advantage of the games I love.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Jeff,

Physx is an Nvidia feature that can be replaced by simply using Direct X 11. You can also run an nvidia card as a 2ndary to dedicate the physx features too if you want it running. Most people would never notice it though.

3 out of 5 eggsoverall ok card

Pros: works great for most of the games that i play all the new ones i get are on high setting overall a good card

Cons: I've had 2 problems with the card since i got it. first problem was when ever i got into something graphicaly heavy or pixel heavy i guess the whole computer would restart. i was running a 525 watt power supply upgraded to a 1000 watt and dont have that problem any more. second problem is like the first but instead of the computer just restarting the monitor cuts out and the sound stalls and goes away. ive tryed to plug other monitors in and they dont even turn on. if there is something im doing wrong with my computer it would be nice to know

Manufacturer Response:

Hey Arthur,

We're sorry you are having issues. Is it producing any signal at all anymore?

Please contact me for support and warranty service.

1 out of 5 eggsReasonably Dissatisfied

Pros: Owned since Nov 2013. Outputs 2560x1440 very well, fairly good FPS. When it is not Artifacting and hard crashing my computer. XFX has GREAT customer support.

Cons: I artifact and crash on any/every game DAILY for 2 years now. I spent another $90 (I couldn't afford) to upgrade to a 750w. Still artifacting/hard crashing repeatedly. Its unreliable and I cannot afford to RMA a 2nd time. I don't even like giving this bad review, but 2 entire years of PC use and CONSTANT crashing/artifacting for $300 I paid (what is ALOT to me w/ bills/child etc) and got a lemon.

Other Thoughts: I've wanted to give this card a good review. I went XFX because I believe their customer support is good, and value their warranty (previous xfx 9800gtx black owner). After buying a $300 card, I expected it to perform as such reliably. I artifact and crash on any/every game DAILY for 2 years now. I paid $300 and have honestly only received grief. I paid for an RMA (which came back clean) Even upgraded PSU (on the recommendation that my 650w was too low) I spent another $90 (which I could barely do) to upgrade to a 750w. Still artifacting/hard crashing repeatedly, I feel ripped off- years of virtual distess. XFX has GREAT customer support, but my card is causing me such grief hardcrashing my PC daily. Its unreliable and I cannot afford to RMA a 2nd time. I don't even like giving this bad review, but 2 entire years of PC use and CONSTANT crashing/artifacting for $300 i'm ashamed. I don't even want another r9 280x, 2 years of constant unreliability, how can you make up for that? I paid for a good card =/ sorry XFX. $405 (GPU/PSU/RMA shipping) and nothing to show for it.

Manufacturer Response:

Hey Frank,

We're sorry you are having issues with your 280x and we appreciate the kind words to our support.

Have you started an RMA? please contact me to get that moving forward.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing!

Pros: Nice feel to it very good looking runs pretty cool my friend told me to get an XFX over Sapphire not because sapphire is bad or anything.. anyway this thing performs amazingly only games like dayz or arma do i lag but im pretty sure thats my cpu. i can handle all my other games 60 fps + on ultra or max settings.

Cons: None yet!

Other Thoughts: 10/10 would reccomend

Cons: Only one which is not the performance issues this is my PSU does not provide enough amps to clock the XFX model card I have to the full clocks without encountering a random WHITE screen.

Be sure that you have a lot of AMPS for your PCI-E Connectors an you will also be suggested for a heavy application computational environment as I am using this card for to have both the 6 PIN PCI-E and the 8 PIN PCIE Power connectors plugged into this card to achieve the max performance power of this card with less thermal to performance ratios with stability.

This card have not once caused me any issues an also use the 14.4 Drivers with the AMD-App-SDK Installed with this card if you are going to use this card for any GPU Computing to achieve the max performance you can achieve in this model for the price.

This is a very fast card with the 384 GDDR5 Bit the bandwidth is incredibly fast.

Other Thoughts: Do not go cheap on a good video card.
so far this is my 9th XFX made Video card on AMD platform by which this is soiid as a AMD FIREPRO model by which I own for many years now.

If XFX made the workstation video cards I will purchase that model card made by XFX any day based on the intelligent designs produced by the company XFX!
I will be happy also when XFX will develop Liquid Cooling for the top end video cards within the near future.
Thank you XFX for a very good product!

And thank you for taking the time to gather data and write this review.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible support, will not buy from XFX again

Pros: Worked fine for a few months

Cons: TLDR:
-Lifelong XFX customer
-Card last less than 6 months
-XFX requires you to send your card in first, after 2-3 weeks you should get a card back
-No advanced replacement, they have no interest in sending you a working card first

Other Thoughts: I've owned this for about 6 months. After a few weeks I started noticing some little quirks. For instance, some times when I turned my computer on the display would be heavily distorted (almost like artifacting), other times the PC would wake from sleep and all the monitors would say they didn't have a connection (until I restart), and some typical artifacting under high load. I did all of the normal troubleshooting things such as making sure all drivers (Cpu,mobo, gpu, BIOS, etc) were up to date, checking temps (55c max for GPU), reinstalling windows (twice), and replacing the motherboard. These issues happened infrequently so I was not terribly concerned until they started happening more. Since the mobo, cpu, gpu, and psu were all new to this build I had to rule all of them out before blaming this XFX 280x. I have finally done so and I wasn't really upset because part of the reason why I religiously buy XFX for AMD/Nvidia builds is because their lifetime warranty gives me peace of mind, even if I only keep cards 6-36 months.

I figured since this happened so infrequently it would not be an inconvenience for me to RMA it. WRONG!

They want you to send the card in first (4-7 business days), let them process it (4-6 business days), then and only then will they ship you a replacement (4-7 business days). So it's pretty safe to say they expect you to be without a graphics card for 2 weeks. The reason they want to do it this way is because if they can fix it they will repair my card and send it back, if they can't fix it they just send me back a refurb card.

For whatever reason they do not have any type of advanced replacement where they put a charge on my credit card, ship me a card, and I return my broken card in their packaging. This seems the most logical as it would ensure zero downtime for the customer while insuring the customer uses sufficient packaging in the return shipment.

They had no flexibility on this. At this point that means I will need to buy a second card to use for 2-3 weeks while this 280x is going through their antiquated return process. Once I get my 280x back I will be selling it and whatever I buy in the mean time will be used to limp along until next gen.

If you don't want to be in a position where you need to spend $200+ on a second card just to use during the slow XFX RMA process (assuming you need the same processing power), DO NOT BUY XFX.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Brent,

We're sorry you had issues with your 280x. I understand your frustration and agree that its a program that should be re-opened for special exception. Unfortunately, we were forced to close the program for unforeseen reasons and the few ruined it for the many and we all suffer, i'm sorry.

As a courtesy to expedite your RMA, please contact me via and I will personally manage the testing and replacement of the card.
