4 out of 5 eggsNice card for the $

Pros: Price and function. Plays CPU intensive games like Dayz relatively well on moderate to conservative settings. Fits in my form factor build without modification.

Cons: Fan is a little noisy for graphic heavy games but what do expect for a form factor video card?

Other Thoughts: I almost bought the R7 with 4gb of ddr3 but this one had more clock memory, glad I did. Also, this will NOT run without the fan so don't think you will get that covered pci slot back without an extension ribbon.

Manufacturer Response:

Great! We're happy everything is working as expected.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat little card!

Pros: High performance for a low profile card. I am able to play Battlefield 4 on Medium/High settings at 1080p with no issues at all. The card is in a very small Silverstone Milo mini itx case. I use this as a HTPC paired with an intel pentium G3220 and 4GB of ram. It is primarily used for movies, but i also have a few games that i play.

Cons: I didn't really care for how thick the card is. I would think for a low profile card they woudln't make the fan shield so thick. I was using this in a mini itx htpc case so i actually had to remove the fan shroud to get it to fit correctly. It comes down to the situation that you are using it in, but you should know if you remove the fan shroud it takes about 1/4" off and it made it fit just right.

2 out of 5 eggsFan is extremely loud when card is under load

Pros: Card does a reasonable job, even at 1920x1080, considering it's small size and low power. Respectable Passmark numbers. Actually possible to play modern games at decent setting with this. Fan is very quiet at idle.

Cons: Fan is crazy loud under load, and card still gets pretty hot. I realize this is a consequence of the small fan/heatsink, but I didn't think it would be as bad as it is. Made my SFF PC sound like it had a tiny jet engine inside. Returning it and going back to the integrated video.

Other Thoughts: I thought about removing the stock fan and experimenting with one or more external (larger/slower) fans adjacent to the card. But, given the high temps I was seeing even with the stock fan (>65C), I'm not sure this would work out without also replacing the stock heatsink (which is a pretty big project). Would be nice to see this card with a big passive heatpipe/heatsink assembly attached... you see this sometimes on full-height cards, but not sure I've ever seen it on a low-profile model.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Jay, Temperatures above 65'C in AMD cards are not uncommon. If the card breaches 85'C under full load, then you might have an issue.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate Review: "Quality top-notch, but defunct"

Pros: - Still, the build quality is very nice, along with matching color theme.
- GDDR5 versus many other cards using DDR3.
- Dual-graphics does work, with a lot of other variables like to the motherboard, AMD recommendations, etc. that can causes enabling DG a problem.A bit more details below.
- Able to run even Assassin's Creed: Black Flag at 1080P on "normal". Normal is what I would say most modern consoles are, if not better than them.
-Does not require a big power-supply. My setup: A10-7850K + this 270 R7 on an micro 350W PSU.

Cons: - A small fan will cause more noise than a larger fan. An disadvantage of low-profile cards.

Other Thoughts: Dual-graphics can be a pain-in-the-behind to get to work. Newer ATI drivers with Frame-pacing and other features makes DG a ideal, and great setup for low-power, small form factor cases. Tomb Raider (with Mantle), and my A10-7850K is amazing with details on very high +, and AA. The over cost is also minimal for this small setup.
DG has a lot of variables, please look into ATI forums, and others for help. The MB BIOS, the RAM requirement (of greater than 1866MHz for my setup), was one of the reason it took forever to get DG to work. Overall, for the price and everything considered above, I think this is a great card (around HD7750 performance), and much more with DG enabled. I owned many XFX cards, so I'm glad to still continue to buy certain brands, along with XFX, for quality.

5 out of 5 eggsGood buy for the money

Pros: For the money? My son has been harping on me about wanting to play COD. All of his friends have it on X-Box. His computer, a hand me down, was running a x1900xt and when we finally got the game, it wouldn't run since that card was a Directx 9 card. I picked this card up for $100 threw it into his machine and off it went. Windows score went from 6.0 to 6.9 on video. He's playing COD on his 32" TV/monitor at a full 1080i with only occasional stutter during scene loading. I'm sure that would mostly go away if I replaced his x2 Athlon with a quad core. Now I'm just waiting for the whole cross fire thing to get resolved and we'll get him an A10 processor to match this with.

I'm also happy that the card doesn't require an additional power plug. The x1900xt was costing a bucket to run every year.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I haven't had a chance to see what will happen with this and the 1.4 hdmi as far as 3D video goes.

2 out of 5 eggsQuality top-notch, but defunct

Pros: The build quality is great. I owned a few XFX graphic cards, and this has a cleanest, and most modern looking. Flat-black hard plastic covers, black pcb board, gun-metal colored bracket, and even a red DVI connector.
Can't comment on the performance because...

Cons: ... I been trying to get dual-graphics with my A10-7850K to work--but it DOESN'T.
- I tried different bios settings on my motherboard, and it's a long shot to blame the MB manufacture because other ppl have gotten it to work with another brand R7 250.
- Has to be a VBIOS setting not set correctly. And, this card with it VBIOS is not UEFI compliant, so ppl would not be able to use their MB ultra-fast booting feature.
- Even with a fresh re-installation of Win8.1, this card cause problems when installing ATI driver with the 7850K iGPU enabled. It will stall no matter which stable or beta ATI driver package used.

Other Thoughts: A bit disappoint. When used as an dedicated graphic card, it does what it should do (installation worked fine). But when pairing with AMD newer APU, and I ran into too many problems. I will update this review once XFX fix their bios problem.

MB: ASRock FM2A75M Pro4+
OS: Windows 8.1

4 out of 5 eggsXFX R7-250 Low Profile

Pros: Low Profile Ready, GDDR5 memory, Able to be Crossfired with the new Kaveri A10-7850K APU. Added over 20 fps to Battlefield 4 in dual graphics mode.

Cons: Fan is extremely LOUD at 70%. The sound is worse than a 80mm running at 100%. Was a pain waiting for AMD to drop the beta drivers for crossfiring with Kaveri. The stock cooling fan has a hard time keeping the GPU cool. Will cause the frames to throttle down at the worst possible time. Because of this I deducted a egg from the rating.

Other Thoughts: It's a nice little GPU even though the cooling fan could be a lot better. I went from 20-26 fps on Battlefield 4 at 1080p at medium using the integrated graphics of the A10-7850K to mid 40's to high 50's depending on the map and number of players in Conquest and Rush modes.

5 out of 5 eggsYOU MUST BUY!

Pros: Fast! really high detail to overall build quality. very nice smooth clean picture displayed. has mantle technology. comes with all low profile brackets. pci-e 3.0 plays bf4
heatsink cool to the touch even after hours of bf4 gameplay

Cons: really freeking loud! i thought by buying a low profile card like all the nvidia 640's ive bought that this would be nice and quiet. Wow everytime i start anything 3d this think really sounds like a G6 jet taking off. not good in my htpc case.

Other Thoughts: Other than the jet noise coming from my little box, i forgot about battlefield 4, so when i put my computer together then saw how cool bf4 was and remembered how horrible bf3 ran with my 560ti, i was really impressed this r7-250 plays bf4 1024x768 all settings medium textures med. at 30 minimum, and 40 max fps. thats awsome and the game is clear and no aa or screan tearing. this little beast is really a nice card. i think i will be removing this cooler and getting a quieter cooler soon. i just have to see what works with my htpc case.

if i can record a video of me playing bf4 ill tag it here.
