1 out of 5 eggsI Beg you to never Buy XFX! We all Know better!!!!!!

Pros: Horribly slow responses from tech support and RMA requests. (that is the only pro, at least they contact you back at their earliest convenience) It was available when ASUS wasn't in stock so I went against my best judgement. Why did I order this card? WHY?

Cons: Crashes constantly, loud, overpriced, slow customer service, poor tech support, poor quality control, can unplug it and plug in my ASUS card and see a night and day difference in image and performance. Sent in for service and came back in worse shape!!!!!

Other Thoughts: I WANT A REFUND NEWEGG OR XFX!!!!! SWAP THIS THNIG OUT!!!!

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We're sorry you are having issues with your card. Also, we are closed over the weekend.

If your replacement card arrived damaged, please contact us at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com.

Thank you

1 out of 5 eggsHigh Temperatures, Constant Crashing

Pros: Fast delivery, good package price for three pack.

Cons: Super high temperatures, regardless of settings, cause entire board to crash. These cards are not suitable for mining.

The overheating issue on these cards has let to a massive amount of time I lost over the last few months. When the cards overheat and knock the entire motherboard offline, it also turns off my gridseeds and 50 Gh/s BTC miner. In other words, I have actually LOST MONEY on downtime from other hardware attached to the same motherboard as these 7970s.

Avoid at all costs and I am going to start the return process.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsGood performance, BAD support

Pros: Mines scrypt pretty well; I'm getting an average 720kH/s per card.

Cons: Out of three cards, one failed within a month. That's with keeping temperature level below 80C. Undervolting is the only option for getting performance without sending temperature and power bills through the roof.
The one that failed was sent for RMA last month and I have yet to see it back. XFX's support website is awful (terrible layout), and they do not communicate.

Other Thoughts: XFX plays gotcha with their warranty - the product listing says lifetime warranty, but then they turn around and say you didn't register it in time. I also saw in the fine print on the RMA that they reserve the right to send you a "comparable" card back, regardless of manufacturer, so I don't even know if I'm getting my 7970 back or if they'll send me some nVidia card that I can't mine with.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, We're sorry you had trouble with your 7970. Our lifetime warranty does require registration, please do so at xfxsupport.com. We reserve the right to send back comparable models because we no longer produce some of the rare or unique cards, or simply we just need to upgrade someone.
7970s are currently replaced with 7970s or 280X's... If you prefer the 7970, let us know since you were upgraded to a card more suited for GPU mining. We hope it pleases you.

We no longer manufacture Nvidia.

If you are reading this and have any questions or comments, please contact us at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com for assistance.

Thank you!

1 out of 5 eggsBad News Bears

Pros: None whatsoever

Cons: XFX definitely realized they had a bad batch/model, and used newegg as a way to dump these terrible cards on unsuspecting victims. These could be the worst cards on the market in terms of mining and having any stability whatsoever. I’m appalled that they would even boast these as a great card for mining.

After weeks of tweaking, setting up with hardware (different PSU’s, mobos, RAM, HDD’s etc, etc), partitioning hard drives, tweaking software, using BAMT miner, and even beefing up my breaker x3 (overboard, I know) produced the same results (multiple cards): black screens, memory dumps (blue screen), shutting off for no reason, running at over 95C+ (with —auto-fan setting, and manual fan setting at 80,85,90,95, & 100%), and the list goes on.

I bought 6 of these cards, have already RMA’d 2 of them, and plan on doing the same for the remaining 4. I have already setup multiple rigs with multiple different cards with no troubles. Then those came along…and the last two weeks have been hell trying to get them running. The fact that they advertised these as mining cards/mining kits is ridiculous, and possibly borderline fraudulent.

Unless you plan on using them for gaming, don’t mind blistering heat & loud temperatures, along with being a very unstable graphics card, then this is the product for you.

1 out of 5 eggsShould not be advertised as a 'mining card'

Pros: Nada

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible would be a gross understatement...

Pros: Absolutely none.

Cons: Where do I begin? Bought 6 of these, have already RMA'd 2, will be doing the same for the rest of them.

-At 99% load, three of the six cards I bought wouldn't run under 105C. For 2 weeks I tried everything. Put them on riser cables 1 ft apart from each other, tried every cooling option (besides water-cooling) possible, I tried with different mobo's, PSU's, CPU's, etc, etc, etc. Still, nothing worked.

-These cards are pure junk. As you can see from other reviews, whether they were bought for mining cryptos or gaming, similar problems have occurred for anyone who has purchased these.

-Apparently, XFX just decided to dump a bad batch/model onto newegg in order to get rid of them. Unfortunately, I bought them before the terrible quality of these cards was voiced in the reviews. After spending almost $2,500, which doesn't include the shipping + time spent trying to get a refund (which doesn't look like that will happen), and much more. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere for a VGA card. If your'e considering buying these to mine, I'm afraid you'll be disappointed at best.

-They run REALLY hot, if you're lucky just to get one of the "good" batches
-Running multiple cards (I tried 2, 3, & 4), you'll most likely run into a lot of problems. I learned this the hard way after partitioning more than 4 hard drives.
-They are very unpredictable, so be prepared for computer crashes, memory dumps, black/torn/pixelated screens.

Other Thoughts: So, if you want to take a gamble as risky as playing Russian Roulette with all cylinders loaded, or need your a space heater in your winter home, this is the card for you.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: None

Cons: I regret buying 6 of these for mining. Took me a week to tweak 4 of the six cards to run under 95-100C, which is still terribly hot. 2 of the cards wouldn't stay under 95C no matter what I did.

If you have a lot of patience, time, and are fine with gambling on a piece of bad hardware, this is you card. If not, go elsewhere.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

I believe you are having issues setting up your miner settings. Please contact us at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com.

the most common issue is GPU threads being set to 1. it should be 2 in your cgminer config file.

1 out of 5 eggsI should have known better...

Pros: They were in stock.

Cons: Where to begin? My friends and I bought 3 of the XFX 7970 miner starter kits for a total of 9 cards, and 3 of the 9 are DOA and have to be sent back.

The cooling system is abysmal in comparison to the Sapphire/Asus/MSI/Gigabyte sytems. These cards run abhorrently hot under full load, easily reaching 95 within a few minutes of crypto mining.

Additionally, they are extremely picky about settings and absolutely refuse to go above 650 KH/s per card and when getting near that point they tend to be unstable and crash.

The 3 cards that are DOA would either hard lock the system or cause blue screens while trying to mine or even just run 3D stress tests, and the remaining 6 are disappointingly underwhelming in just about every aspect when compared to any decent branded Radeon cards.

Other Thoughts: Owned 2 XFX GeForce 9800 GT's a few years back and had to RMA both of those as well. I should have known better from experience alone, not to mention the plethora of negative feedback on these cards. Skip XFX & Powercolor when it comes to Radeon cards.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, We're sorry you had issues with your 797A-TDKC. Unfortunately, this card out of the box wasn't a great mining unit, but with a little COMMUNITY SUPPORT and GOOGLE SEARCHING, one might be able to find the "fix" for these cards. However, since i cannot directly participate in the modification of individuals cards, and typically speak against it, i cannot direct you to the said "fix."

These cards are brilliant miners if you know how to configure them.

3 out of 5 eggsBios mods?

Pros: What settings/methods are you guy using to get these things up to such high khash rates? They only do 530/khash out of the box...

Cons: stable, but hot.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, Mining on these cards can be very successful if you know the right settings. Unfortunately i have been advised to direct customers to the mining community for the details on how to build the most stable/successful miner out of these cards. Perhaps start here.

4 out of 5 eggs735+ KH after tweaking

Pros: - Stable overclock at 1040/1600
- reached 735 khash at that clock and remained at 83C at 70% Fan in a CM Storm Trooper case (Requires undervolting)

Cons: - Loud fan past 50% - past 70 can be as loud as an handheld vacuum.
- Needs to unlock voltage through bios flash
- Needs a lot of tweaking to boost from 530 Khash to 735 khash.

Other Thoughts: Overall I'm satisfied with the card itself for mining. You can unleash it's true mining potential after tweaking and modding (But don't flash other bios in it, just mod the existing one).

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review!
