XFX Ghost Thermal 2.0 Technology

The New and Improved Floating Heatsink Design of XFX Graphics Cards Provides the Ultimate Cooling Solution

XFX's exclusive ghost thermal 2.0 design creates a floating heatsink with open airflow between the PCB and the cover so that air can quickly ventilate off the card while simultaneously cooling the core process and the components. We've also made major advances from our first generation which includes a heat tested light weight plastic to create an overall lighter thermal which reduces the physical strain on your GPU.

Up to 13dB Quieter and 45°F (7°C) Cooler Than Our Competitors

The Exclusive XFX Double Dissipation Design is Cooler and Quieter than Others

XFX's exclusive dual fan double dissipation design utilizes two larger fans which run at slower RPM than comparable single fan solutions which must run at much higher RPMs just to barely achieve the same cooling needs. Because of this design, XFX is able to achieve up to 13dB lower noise than the competitor while simultaneously increasing the overall cooling by 45°F (7°C).

Only AMD Radeon™ Dual Graphics combines two powerful Radeon™ DirectX 11.2-enabled graphics processors to provide the ultimate gaming performance boost when you need it.

Six Times the Tesselation Technology

The Details of Tesselations can Make the Difference Between a Flat Dull Surface and a Realistic Bumpy Surface

XFX graphics cards offer the highest Tesselation capabilities while still maintaining the higest performance. We don't sacrifice one for the other so you can expect to get the riches detail in your games without slowing down your gaming experience. See bumpy roads, textured fabrics and realistic rippling waters with high tesselated graphics from XFX.

Improved Multi-Sample Anti-Aliasing MSAA Technology

Smooth Lines Make All the Difference Between Itty Bitty Low-Quality Graphics Versus Smooth Realistic Graphics

MSAA smooths out the jagged edges of a curved object. A black curved line on a white background displayed on a computer screen will have some jaggedness along its edges due to the inherent limitations of using discrete pixels to display the image. Anti-aliasing smooths out this jaggedness by filling in the white spaces between the jagged edges with varying shades of gray which gives you the smooth soft shadows, crisp sharp lines of buildings, and crisp tiny details in clothing that make your experience truly realistic.

Bullet Physics Engine Technology

Get the Most Out of Your Gaming Experience with Real 3D Physics

Take advantage of the 3D Physics capabilities of some of today's newest titles which include completely destructible objects, walls and buildings collapsing from gun fire, real particle effects such as fire that react to the environment and realistic details such as moving hair, water and much more.

Compatible with the Newest Direct X Technology

Meets the Standards of the Newest Games with the Latest Direct X Driver Compatibility

With every new generation of Direct X, major improvements are made which greatly advance the graphics capabilities of games. That's why it is essential to ensure that you are using a graphics card with the newest Direct X driver compatibility so that you'll get the most out of your gaming experience. See the difference for yourself.

Partially Resident Textures PRT Technology

Radically Change the Detail of Your Games from Flat to Realistic

Even in the latest titles, gamers may have noticed that games often reuse or repeat textures, particularly on the ground or in background scenery such as mountains or trees. This is because increasing the physical size or number of textures in a game can have a negative impact on the performance of a GPU. PRT is a radical technology that hopes to break this cycle.

5 out of 5 eggsCustomer for Life

Pros: I like sweet spots. XFX constantly hits the sweet spot between price/performance. I've had this particular card now for over a week and it works as advertised.
-will play most games at 1080p on max settings
-this is a slight step up from the card it replaced, a Radeon 7878 1Ghz Edition (see below)

Cons: None really. Am I gonna complain about the two six-pin power connectors or the length of the card, no sticker? Nah.

Other Thoughts: I had the XFX 7870 1Ghz Edition for about 18 months. When it gave up the ghost I figured that was it, I'd have to buy a new card. Created a ticket a XFX support with details of the incident and my troubleshooting. They had me send it in and promptly said that they would be replacing it with this card, which arrived a week later brand new in the box. They have also recently sent me a replacement fan for my older XFX Radeon 6850. Between these two cards I've gotten four free quality games that easily value over $200. This folks, is how you win: Customers for Life!

My gaming rig runs a FX-6300 (sweet spot), Asus mobo, 8GB of GSkill 1600 RAM (sweet spot), and 750W Ultra PSU (they've never failed me yet)

World of Tanks, max settings, avg. 40-45 fps

1 out of 5 eggsPower Rating Incorrect

Pros: None

Cons: The manufacturer claims a 600W PSU is required to run this card. A 600W PSU is insufficient, as a 600W Corsair PSU was bought to go along with the card and fails to provide enough power. Performance may be great, but it does not matter if it does not work.

Manufacturer Response:

We're sorry you are having issues with your card. The max power draw of a 270x is 225 watts. 600 watts is plenty enough to handle this card...

2 out of 5 eggsI don't think I'll buy from XFX again.

Pros: Mostly ran whatever I wanted it to.
Looked nice in my rig.
Decent enough performance for the price.

Cons: Only had it for 3 months before sending it back to XFX and getting a refurbished replacement.

Other Thoughts: I bought this card just under a year ago. Bought it right before Christmas as a gift to myself, actually. Built a nice little budget rig around this card and an FX 6300. I spent $750 total (I already had a monitor and other peripherals), and received my items the day before Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas, Kevin...

All was well for the first month or so. I had a few odd glitches here and there, but everything seemed to be fine otherwise. I blamed some weird graphical errors on AMD's drivers and tried to live with it. Over time, however, these errors became worse. My screen would periodically flicker as if someone had just struck the side of an old tube tv. After a couple weeks, this evolved into odd vertical lines appearing across the screen in solid colors. Eventually, that led to freezing, and then of course, BSODs.

I tried everything, from running memory tests, to reloading drivers, to re-installing Windows. The problems persisted. They would appear randomly whenever the GPU was in use. Whether this was while playing a game, or simply watching youtube videos in FireFox. A freeze or BSOD could happen at any time.

Finally, I decided to contact XFX customer support, and while they were generally friendly, their service was slow as cold molasses. After sending in my RMA request, I was told to pack up my card and send it in to them. It took several days for them to send me more information on exactly how and where to return the card.

Once the card finally arrived at XFX, it took another two weeks for them to diagnose the problem. I was finally given information about my card being faulty, and was told I would be receiving a replacement.

Almost two weeks later, I finally received my replacement in the mail. It was a refurbished older model, with an entirely different cooler/fan shroud on it. It looked more like a 7870 than the 270x that I had purchased. Not being one to be too picky about such things, however, I installed the card, and all seemed to be well.

Now, several months later, I've noticed those strange bursts of visual static happening again. Luckily, there have been no BSODs or odd vertical lines, but it feels as though it's only a matter of time.

I honestly am not satisfied with XFX. The cards run relatively well for the price, but their customer service seems very slow and lacking, and honestly, receiving a refurbished card after sending one back that I only owned for 3 months and wasn't actually damaged by me is pretty low. Now that the refurbished card I received as the replacement for my practically brand new one is showing the same symptoms of failure that my first card had before dying... I just don't want to deal with XFX anymore.

Next time, I think I'll buy an Asus or Sapphire. They've never steered me wrong before.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Kevin, we're sorry you had issues with your cards. Replacement are always upgrades or equivalent, never downgrades to older series (like 7870s..) Please contact us at so we can get this sorted out.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsXFX R9 270X

Pros: Silent
Great performance
Stays cool
Plays just about everything on high-ultra settings 60+ FPS
5 output options
$20 Rebate worked
Got it for $180 total early June
Shipped fast

Cons: Plain looking, kinda boring
One DVI doesn't output as high resolution (I knew this when I bought it)
Nothing enough to take an egg
I wanted to mention the fans are facing downward, the back of the GPU is on the top. Kinda annoying, since the air in my case should be flowing in from the front and travel upward. Whatever.

Other Thoughts: I have had this for 6+ months now, performance is great. Using a 1680x1050 monitor, FPS is always above 60 FPS, never any lag or stutter on high-ultra FPS on somewhat recent games.
This thing is incredibly quiet, I tested it by unplugging all of my case fans and CPU fan, leaving just the PSU and this. Absolutely silent, you cannot hear a thing, even with my case open and my ear a foot away from the card. Unfortunately, I have been using somewhat noisy case fans, so I didn't know how quiet this thing was until I recently tested it.
However, I am not a big fan of how it looks. I am a big fan of flashy cards, so I kinda wish I would have gone with MSi or ASUS. Oh well, I don't currently have a case window, so it doesn't matter much.
I have been using this with an FX-6300 and 8GBs of RAM, and the only game that hasn't run perfectly is the newer Thief game. I get around 38 FPS on ultra settings, and changing them to high I get around 39 FPS. It may or may not be part of the fault with my processor, I don't know.

I got this for my first budget build, I managed to spend under $600 and this was my most expensive component.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works really well in my med-core gaming rig. Easily runs Civ V on maximum graphics settings. I haven't had a problem with laggy graphics or low fps on any of the many Steam games I have run through this graphics card.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: Really happy with the performance.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card But...

Pros: Great gaming card, no issues. Excellent upgrade for those in need of a great lesser expensive card.

Cons: Let me get to that in other thoughts...

Other Thoughts: The card itself is great, but I had purchased it bundled with a free gold reward, space edition, which offers Star Citizen. Upon receiving my key for Star Citizen, there was an error, "Max number of use reached for this coupon."
I still gave a 5 mostly because this is more of a warning for those who get the gold reward, you might have trouble with getting Star Citizen codes to work, and AMD is terrible at getting back to you. The e-mail they use to contact you when you create a support ticket through their website is unreplyable, which creates a bigger headache that it should be for a free product. I've tried for the past week to contact AMD with no success.

In conclusion, R9 270X good, free gold reward bad.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review, we are very happy you are pleased.

The Game bundle should be a breeze to redeem, if you are still having issues, let us know.

Pros: Fast
Good price
Sexy looking

Cons: Big card

Other Thoughts: I believe my card is messed up but i am not sure, if i go AFK and come back a few minutes later it's like the card crashes and i have to exit my games with crtl-alt delete

Not sure what is wrong.

5 out of 5 eggsGood card with great value; top-notch XFX support

Pros: When I bought this card, I could not find a better performing card at this price point (the after-rebate price was similar, although I got 1 free game instead of 2, so it may be an even better deal now). Immediately prior to purchasing this card, I had a XFX single fan model and then upgraded to a "double dissipation" (dual fan) model. The dual fan model is much quieter because the fans run at slower speeds. Running monitoring software, the graphics card temperature and fan speed aren't taxed unless I run crazy benchmarks that I can't replicate in real world gaming. I can run every single game I play at the highest quality settings and never seem to get below the 90-120 FPS range. Lifetime warranty transferable to one other owner. XFX support is very responsive.

Cons: I mentioned the "rake" issue. Forgot to mention that moving the mouse pointer over to the second monitor or right edge of the screen would fix the issue. Did some research, and it appears the issue may be related to a second monitor. I was using a very old 19 inch 1280x1024 as a second screen but have since reverted to a single 24 inch display. Will try a fresh driver install with single monitor setup to see if that gets rid of the rake.

Other Thoughts: I also previously mentioned the rebate troubles I was having. As you can see immediately below, XFX support both e-mailed me and left a message on my review to contact them regarding any rebate-related issues. I promptly did, and the rebates I was having trouble with were approved instantly. XFX support is very responsive and helpful.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsGood card

Pros: Never had a problem with a XFX graphics card before, and this one is no different. There is something about ATI/AMD's Catalyst drivers that causes some weird issues with certain games, like Dota 2 (where the cursor turns into something that looks like a rake). Performance-wise it's completely fine, and price point is good. XFX also provides lifetime warranty and lets you transfer it to one owner, so you can sell the card and transfer ownership of the warranty once.

Cons: ATI/AMD Catalyst drivers have certain problems nVidia drivers don't.

This is not a con re: the card itself, but I have a very low success rate when it comes to getting XFX (4myrebates, or Worldwide Rebate Processing Center Inc.) to honor my rebates. Doesn't matter how meticulously I prepare the rebate form and required materials or send via registered mail. Policy seems to be deny, deny, deny. Out of the 5 or so XFX products I've ordered in the past, I've only had 1 rebate honored (and it was the smallest amount too). Calling into their customer service to try and resolve the issue is a nightmare. Don't rely on the "rebate" when calculating cost.

Other Thoughts: I don't know if vendors like Newegg can exert pressure on XFX about its shoddy rebate track record, but if you guys can, please do! Most people forget to submit their rebates anyway... the people who do submit them, and submit them correctly, should have their rebates honored.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Sean,

We're sorry you get the rake on some games, however a corrupt driver can sometimes be the cause. We may be able to help you with that.

Our Rebate track record should be 100%. If you have any rebates that were not honored for whatever reason, please email us at and we will sort out each rebate for you.

Thank you.
