1 out of 5 eggsUpdate on replacement XFX R9 270X

Pros: Good performance

Cons: So as an update to my last 1 star review for TWO XFX R9 270Xs that produced burning smells that engulfed the entire living room, I am giving this replacement card a... 1 star as well. This one hits 99C in a 74F room. Running 3 120mm fans into case and 3 120mm fans out, with one that actually provides great airflow directly to the card. But when I place my hand by the exhaust port of the card while the fans are at 100%, there's barely any flow. This tells me that this thing does not push sufficient air at all. The heatsink looks aluminum too, while the heat pipes are copper. I've run the card for 2 weeks since receiving it from the RMA department. No visible dust anywhere (including on the other components because I vacuum the sucker quite regularly).

Other Thoughts: They better not make me pay shipping for the RMA again...

5 out of 5 eggsGreat GPU

Pros: If you game at 1920x1080 this GPU should pretty much max everything out with no problem. Runs cool & quite.

Cons: Didn't get my rebate from XFX, they said that I didn't include the UPC which is funny because I cut it from the box. But that's ok, I can just using Sapphire GPU's.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for great review and feedback. If you are having issues with the rebate company (Not XFX), please contact us and we will help resolve your issue.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: I am updating my last review. I got my new card and it is awesome. It actually is very quiet I was very suprised.
Love the digital bios this is my forst machine to use to overclock and this bios makes is soooo easy.

Cons: Now that my machine is up and running how it should I have no cons except it is quite large and blocks the lower pci slot and sata connectors. I am not using those so it isnt s big issue for me.

Manufacturer Response:

Excellent.

Thank you for the great review. We appreciate your feedback.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card for the cost

Pros: This card performs well and keeps cool. Overclocking is very easy with AMD overdrive. I am running beta drivers without any issues.

As a full time mechanical/electrical engineer with a background in microelectronics, I can say this card was fabricated with great attention to detail and quality.

Runs most modern games on high/ultra. Battlefield 4 runs well on ultra with AA off. Breezes through games that use the source engine. Scored quite relatively high in benchmarks.

Cons: None - this is a good time to pick up this card with a $199 price tag. Mine was $220.

Other Thoughts: **Check your wattage on your power supply. I had a 650 watt, but had to upgrade to an 850 watt to fully utilize this card. The guy who left a review about a burnt electronic smell.. it might be your psu.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review Toast, We appreciate your kind words.

1 out of 5 eggsBurning smells

Pros: Hmm...

Cons: This is my second R9-270X-CDFC in two months. The first one emitted a burning smell immediately after running the first game on it at 69C. The smell engulfed my living room. Fortunately, the distributor RMAed it. The new replacement came and was fine for about two weeks before it also started emitting a burning smell at 74C Of course, this time, the RMA period from the distributor had expired, so my only choice was to RMA it with XFX. I'm realizing now why they run rebates on these things... so WE can pay for the RMA shipping back to them with the rebate we receive. How convenient eh? The distributor was nice enough to give me a return shipping label, but XFX won't. Hmmm... Waiting for the replacement card and crossing my finger that the third card is the charm... Oh and they take quite a long time to return messages via the online system, so I recommend you create a ticket online just to get a number and then call them at 1-800-880-3225.

Other Thoughts: Had a XFX HD6870 before it that did just fine in the same conditions and the R9-270X is basically an HD 7870. I wonder if the R9 line has issues?

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Neoshi,

We're sorry your last two cards smelled funny. We would be happy to investigate this for you.

5 out of 5 eggsAwsome Card!

Pros: Great graphics card, very high quality, resolution is amazing. I watch Blu-ray movies with an ACER 27" LED monitor, looks as good as my 60". Very quiet. Although Win 8.1 64 does not give a rating, it is the best graphics card I've used. AMD XF-8350 4.0 Vishera,32 gb Kingston Ram!

Cons: Aside from being big, there is none!

Other Thoughts: Would, and have recommended this card to friends!

Greetings,

5 out of 5 eggsGreat video card

Pros: This card gives a rating of 7.9 - the highest. I Ran it under 64 bit Win 7 Pro with an AMD 4 gig processor.

Cons: Not really a con - but this board is long and 'might' bump into drives depending on their location The best choice is a bottom mount power supply and drives. But, it woredk fine in a Rosewill case with top mount PS.

Other Thoughts: I highly recomment this video card.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Looks nice and matches case.
Runs all my games at max settings 60 fps+ (using a 32" led tv so resolution is 1360x768)
Stays quiet and cool under load.
Brick and Mortar store price matched it for $199.

Cons: Bought from BB because I couldn't wait due to selling my old card. Got it to artifact with the 14.6 beta drivers. went back to 14.4 and works fine.

5 out of 5 eggsGood card lousy instructions

Pros: Great graphics card in the $200 range. It ranked 7.9 for graphics on the Windows 7 performance monitor.

Cons: The manual/instructions are terrible. The card comes with a cross fire jumper cable but doesn't mention it at all. When does when use this and when not? If it is always good, why isn't it permanently attached to the card?
The card also has several outputs but the instructions don't mention them. There is a black DVI out and a red DVI out. Are they different?

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review.

The 2 DVI ports are different. The top DVI, nearest the HDMI, is a dvi-i, meaning it can do everything the lower dvi port can do, but it also accepts DVI-VGA adapters.

The crossfire bridge is only used when you have a 2 cards with similar GPUs. Then you can combine the power of boths cards into 1 Crossfired powerful GPU.
