Improved Multi Sample Anti-Aliasing MSAA Technology

Smooth Lines Make All the Difference Between Itty Bitty, Low-Quality Graphics Versus Smooth Realistic Graphics

MSAA smooths out the jagged edges of a curved object. A black curved line on a white background displayed on a computer screen will have some jaggedness along its edges due to the inherent limitations of using discrete pixels to display the image. Anti-aliasing smooths out this jaggedness by filling in the white spaces between the jagged edges with varying shades of gray which gives you the smooth soft shadows, crisp sharp lines of buildings, and crisp tiny details in clothing that make your experience truly realistic.

1 out of 5 eggsworks well... until driver update

Pros: Beautiful card
Game runs at 40-60 fps on ultra/high
Works well until...

Cons: ...until driver update. On the stock driver (v.13.25), every games work (except wolfenstein new order). The moment you finish updating driver to 14.4, 15.7 or 15.7.1 (the lastest), you can play 30 min max before having a beige screen, or black or yellow (depending what you are doing). When you reboot, it crash after 10 minutes. I've even made an update for my Bios and it didnt resolve the problem. Its seem that im not the only one who have this problem. Its seems to that this XFX is broken. Im disapointed in this product and im trying to get refund

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Jean,

Please contact me for support in resolving this issue. It sounds more like you had a recent hardware failure and its only a coincidence that the drivers seem the culprit.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks, for a while.

Pros: -Looks nice
-Runs well (for a time)

Cons: Bought this card as an upgrade from an old GTX 465. Ran BF4 maxed out flawlessly and other games as well. However, after a few months one of my displays began to artifact when I would play games and watch videos. Sent the card to XFX where they ran tests and concluded it was fine. Week after it came from then it started doing the same thing. This was back in October 2014.

Fast forward to now, and this problem is still occurring and is now getting out of hand. Displays go out multiple times a day, artifacts out the wazoo. Currently attempting to get a real RMA from XFX (who have said they will run more "tests"). At this point I would rather have a refund. Trying to expedite the process, but XFX takes their time (Usually 1-2 days) before replying to anything in a support ticket.

I bought this card during the crypocurrency craze. Not knowing when the card would be in stock again, I purchased it for OVER $400. I maybe (very loose "maybe") got $200 of value from this card.

Other Thoughts: If you must have a 280X, purchase from another brand.

Still gave 2 Eggs for how well it performed before the issues began.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the review, Tyler, and we're sorry you are having issues.

If you are still having trouble, please contact me for support, i am sure i can get it resolved quickly.

2 out of 5 eggsGPU

Pros: It turned on

Cons: Arrived with the hdmi port giving bad quality, and one dvi port not working.

Other Thoughts: Pretty much DOA

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

we're sorry you are having issues with your card. please contact us for support as this shouldn't be the case. Bad signal or low resolutions enabled are sometimes caused by a damaged or faulty HDMI cable.

Thank you for this review. If you have any questions, please let us know.

1 out of 5 eggsXFX Support Nonexistent

Pros: When the card works, it's great. I can run everything on ultra on my 2560x1440 display with this and an i5.

Cons: Recently, my computer began locking up under heavy load, and swapping out this card with another identical one solved the problem. However, the only way to request an RMA seems to be through the XFX Support website, which does not send email confirmations or notifications for anything, and doesn't appear to be monitored by any staff.

Other Thoughts: Buy the equivalent card from a different manufacturer who will actually provide the promised support. Nothing wrong with the hardware--occasional failures are expected, which is why the warranty is so important.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Ednos,

We're sorry you are having issues with your 280x. The support site should email you confirmations for any responses given, perhaps your email address isnt entered correctly or filtering the responses to spam?

Either way, i can get your RMA expedited, please email us at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com

1 out of 5 eggsStarted off great then took a nosedive

Pros: This video card started off great, I could run all games on max settings without any issues.

Cons: Now the bad, after 8 months the card started having issues.

-Display flickering on both primary and secondary monitors (at least once an hour)
-Both screen will display a biege screen with lines coming down them, audio will still come out of speakers/headphones but system will be unresponsive, have to perform a hard shutdown.
-After rebooting the Windows logo on the PRIMARY monitor will be artifacting and not display correctly
-After both monitors turn off after 15 minutes, when I wake them back up, only the primary displays my desktop. The secondary monitor will also wake up, but the screen will be black; the display on the primary monitor will then flicker constantly unless I reboot the machine.

Below are the steps I have taken to troubleshoot the issue.

-Reinstalled Windows on a brand new hard drive
-Uninstalled existing driver version 14.10.1006-140417a-171099C and upgraded to the latest version 14.23
-Removed and upgraded sound card
-Ran memtest on every single stick of memory seperatly for 12 hours (no errors)

I contacted XFX Support and they said to update the BIOS for the flickering issues.

After performing the BIOS upgrade my video card is USELESS. I cannot play ANY games at all. As soon as the game starts, both monitors go black, my system freezes up and is unresponsive and I'm forced to perform a hard shutdown of the system.

Another thing that sucks is that when XFX support updates your support ticket, you don't get any notification at all, you have to manually check up/follow up on it.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello AlphaZulu,

If you're email address isn't entered correctly, you will not receive notifications. The Bios fix you are referring has another (3rd) solution as well. Message me and i will get this resolved for you. If not, i can atleast get it replaced under warranty.

Thank you

1 out of 5 eggsTotally misleading statements about multi monitor functionality

Pros: Pretty to look at. Cant really comment on performance since I cant get it set up for the use it was intended for.

Cons: Like Benjamin before me, I was attempting to run with multiple monitors.

I had upgraded from a GTX 660 that ran 4 monitors flawlesly. I saw that this card could handle "6" monitors at once. There was no information other than you must use the mini display ports. No comments that you need to buy 2 X $30 active mini display port adapters in order to run more than 2 monitors at once.

Tech support is marginal since there is a 1-2 day delay in email responses. I am still waiting to hear back from them about the complete matrix of connections I have attempted.

Other note is if you have to use the mini display port adapters, and you cant run 3 monitors with the 2xDVI and the 1xHDMI, how can you ever run 6 monitors? There is no information on the web site explaining this.

I think I am going to send this card back and with the $60 they want me to spend on minidisplay port adapters get a GTX 970. At least then I can run 4 monitors with out any grief

Other Thoughts: I used to love XFX back in the day. You guys need to be MUCH clearer on the product description about what configurations you support.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We apologize for the confusion. In the specifications below, you will find a subsection titled "AMD Eyefinity 6 Display Technology." Eyefinity is a feature which utilizes the Mini Displayports and MST hubs to produce multiple monitors in a custom configuration as needed. We would recommend calling us for a further explanation.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Make sure you have a newer psu this thin eats up power maxed out I had random reboot blue screens under clocked and no problem my supply was 800w but was old and only had 30amp on 12v rail new one in mail 850w with 72 amp on 12v rail

2 out of 5 eggsslow RMA

Pros: Awesome when it was working, good graphics, play everything on high or ultra.

Cons: XFX is beating around the bush on giving an RMA for the card. I had it for over 30 days until it started giving me a blue or white blank screen, with lines about 5-20min of use, and it doesn't matter what I'm doing gaming or not. There is no error code when it happens, just blank with lines. I had the card tested at a pc repair shop same problem different computer. I even had my computer check to make sure it's the card. I told XFX tech support the same thing and they ask for more information LOL what? They ask for the same information that I just told them. I do A+ on the side and generally have a good idea on what hardware is failing.

Other Thoughts: I understand that sometimes hardware fails and that's why there are warrantees, but beating around the bush on replacing your own merchandise is bad business ethics. wanted to give a higher rating, but slow RMA killed it.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We're sorry you had issues with this card. Sometimes technicians read keywords in a ticket that may inspire them to persist with troubleshooting, however, same results in a different PC is usually a good enough indicator.

Please contact us at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com for service options and technical support if you are still having issues.
