1 out of 5 eggsVRM Overheats to Auto-Shutdown

Pros: Runs games pretty well. In Crossfire I could run BF4 with 3 screens on high settings with good FPS for a whole 20 minutes before the cards overheated and shut themselves down.

Cons: These cards simply get too hot. I have tried 3 cards and they all get so hot they overheat themselves and shut off.

I bought two cards to put in Crossfire. Everything seemed to go well until I was playing BF4 and my graphics cards would shut down and turn the monitors off but leave the rest of the computer running. This resulted in having to manually restart the computer every time. This would happen every time.

After some research I decided to check the temps and ran GPU-Z with Furmark which resulted in the system crashing within 30 seconds. Results were the cards getting GPU temps up to 84 C and VRM 1 temps up to 125 C before shutoff. I thought my cooling might not be adequate. I opened the case and set a box fan on high blowing on the cards. No help. I also ran one card at a time and each would overheat within 5 minutes of beginning the test.

Thankfully, although it was annoying to work through the technicalities, I was able to return both cards for store credit (and not get ripped out of the "$150 discount" for the "free games" that came with each card).

Sadly, before I knew these cards were inherently prone to overheating I had a third card on the way for a friend's build. I warned him it would likely overheat and that we could return it for a refund if we didn't open it. He decided to roll the dice. He lost - his card overheats as well.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this card if you have any intention to try to fully utilize it. It will overheat quickly and shut itself down.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Gerik, These cards are not known to be prone to overheating.

3 out of 5 eggsGood performance, but...

Pros: Good performance.
Great price (got it on sale!)
Easy install.
No issues with drivers/perfomance

Cons: Cooling fan became un-balanced after a few months. Began incessantly buzzing as it ground against the frame. Sometimes spun straight, no issues, other times unbalanced.

Other Thoughts: The sticker on the fan didn't seem centered, and came bubbled up with heat after a couple months. Possible cause?

Manufacturer Response:

We're sorry you are having issues with the fan. We can help replace it very quickly.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card for the money.

Pros: Inexpensive compared to NVidia competition, plays everything wonderfully at 1080p on Ultra settings, great cooling system keeps it cool even under intense benchmarks.

Cons: Quite large, I didn't have any issues installing it in an ATX Mid Tower but if you're building smaller, make sure it fits. Seriously, the thing's the size of my forearm.

Other Thoughts: I really liked the way it looks, simple but bold. Next time I build, I'll make sure to get a windowed case because this thing is just cool.

This card went into my first build ever, and I've gone a bit crazy trying to make the card underperform. The worst it's ever done for me is ~45-55 fps on Skyrim with a ton of graphic mods, ENBs, Hi-Res texture packs, grass mods, etc. Modwise, I could have done more but it devours gameplay at the graphic levels I prefer. Everything else looks amazing, Tomb Raider, Far Cry 3, Assetto Corsa, all of it.

Thank you for great review and feedback.

3 out of 5 eggsGood, but not without issues.

Pros: The card seems to run all the games I play well (wildstar, ESO, World of Tanks, and some single player games best of which graphics wise would be the witcher 2)

Cons: When I first bought this card, I bought it with a complete upgrade, Mother board, ram, hard driver, and CPU. At first I didn't do a full wipe and re-install of windows because I was being lazy. Then I started to have issues with tearing, and random graphic problems. I assumed it was due to drivers conflicting (even though I had uninstalled the old drivers). So after a complete re-install of windows 7 fully up to date drivers and still having issues off and on. Even getting BSOD's on occasion. Working on the BSOD dumb files still to figure out what exactly is causing them, so don't want to say its the card, but honestly everything is pointing to it.

Other Thoughts: Even with all the issues I still like the card, If I am to send it back faulty, I will hope for a replacement, because when the card works it works very well.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, Please contact us to get the bios fix for your windows artifacts.

4 out of 5 eggsR9 280X, Money Well Spent!

Pros: This card runs very well, and very quiet. Under load while playing Skyrim with ENB and 4k textures and 200+ mods it runs at 56 Celsius. At 45-50 fps with the stock OC clock.

Cons: No Black Edition badge, The shroud that covers the end of the GPU is VERY delicate, I know how to handle these cards and while installing it the entire shroud shifted on the heat sink i'm guessing?. it pushed back into place and I haven't had any issues with it yet so I don't know. It is worth noting that this product was already registered by someone else, when I went to register it, I could, then when I checked the warranty info from XFX dashboard/website it said that someone else had already registered it. I could see on the packaging where the tape had been cut and re-taped. This makes me think that the GPU was tampered with and I was technically sold a open-box. I'll update when I get a hold of Newegg tomorrow.

Other Thoughts: I am overall very happy with this purchase, the product already being registered kind of worries me, and the fact that the fan shroud moved so easily, it moved probably 1/8 of a inch. Non the less this card is working fantastic(for now), XFX makes excellent products and has my business for life.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review, we appreciate the postiive feedback.

Okay, if you have any more questions or still want your Black Edition Badge, please let us know.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card

Pros: Card runs quietly and performance is great. Downloaded the driver straight from AMD. Overall the card does what it needs but I did need to replace my power supply with a gold certified power supply. Possible reason why everyone else had issues with the card. Not enough power.

Cons: Software that came from XFX has minor issues. But its replaced with AMD's version.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review CK, we appreciate your kind words.

4 out of 5 eggsProblems solved by customer service.

Pros: Awesome card when working properly. Fantastic graphics, runs quiet and cool, has fast frame rates and is an XFX/AMD!

Cons: Had issues with my first card (see previous review), and had to RMA it.

Other Thoughts: XFX customer service quickly stepped up to the plate and replaced my first card. Shipping and exchange was completed quickly. New card seems to be running smoothly, with no issues at all. Will definitely purchase XFX cards in the future.
I'm hoping this new card holds up better than my original.

3 out of 5 eggsgood, not great

Pros: Shipping speed and the xfx cooling. Fans are more silent then my asus hd 7850. Having good airflow through the case helps as well.

Cons: Upon first boot got an instant blue screen. Second boot went well until I started updating drivers, then it blue screened again. Third boot I was able to update my drivers fine and then began going to through the games I play to see how the card was doing under graphic loads. Temps where good, but I ran into artifacting in bf4, ac4, and watchdogs on on ultra settings 1080p res and maxed filtering. Ran eso and wildstar fine.(expected) I also was having desktop icon flickers when no programs where running.

Other Thoughts: Disappointed tat this seems to be an on-going issue with the latest 14.4 amd driver. For the price I expect these issues not to exist, but stuff happens. I got an rma from newegg last night but figured I would post a review with my experience with the card to see if they can contact me in regards to the bios update I may need.

*note: checked all my drivers in my machine including chipset and others, un-installed and re-installed amd drivers with no change in the issue. XFX got back to me 3 days after contacting them, already went through their checklist and the problems are still there.

The card is still usable at lower graphic setting, but I still encounter desktop flickers and game crashes. Everything runs fine though when I run my hd 7850.

1 out of 5 eggsFlickering non stop

Pros: It looks great!

Cons: Right when I installed the latest amd drivers the card started flickering and then would crash. Screen would have two colors in pinstripes up and down and would freeze the PC. I can't do anything at all with this right now because it does it after every start up. Apparently xfx knows about this error and can fix it with a bios update but you have to get the update from their tech support and it can not be found anywhere on their site. So I have to wait for them to respond to my ticket and have them send me the flash. Just a waste of time and money at this point.

Manufacturer Response:
