XFX Ghost Thermal 2.0 Technology

The New and Improved Floating Heatsink Design of XFX Graphics Cards Provides the Ultimate Cooling Solution

XFX's exclusive ghost thermal 2.0 design creates a floating heatsink with open airflow between the PCB and the cover so that air can quickly ventilate off the card while simultaneously cooling the core process and the components. We've also made major advances from our first generation which includes a heat tested light weight plastic to create an overall lighter thermal which reduces the physical strain on your GPU.

Up to 13db Quieter and 45°F (7°C) Cooler Than Our Competitors

The Exclusive XFX Double Dissipation Design is Cooler and Quieter than Others

XFX's exclusive dual fan double dissipation design utilizes two larger fans which run at slower RPM than comparable single fan solutions which must run at much higher RPMs just to barely achieve the same cooling needs. Because of this design, XFX is able to achieve up to 13db lower noise than the competitor while simultaneously increasing the overall cooling by 45°F (7°C).

Improved Multi Sample Anti-Aliasing MSAA Technology

Smooth Lines is the Difference Between Itty-Bitty Low-Quality Graphics Versus Smooth Realistic Graphics

MSAA smooths out the jagged edges of a curved object. A black curved line on a white background displayed on a computer screen will have some jaggedness along its edges due to the inherent limitations of using discrete pixels to display the image. Anti-aliasing smooths out this jaggedness by filling in the white spaces between the jagged edges with varying shades of gray which gives you the smooth soft shadows, crisp sharp lines of buildings, and crisp tiny details in clothing that make your experience truly realistic.

2 out of 5 eggsXFX is awesome

Pros: XFX is the only pro in this situation. My first card I ordered after about 6 months started locking up and freezing my computer. I RMA'd it with XFX hassle free! Even after they told me my card tested fine, they sent me a new one anyway for my peace of mind. They have been great to deal with and the only reason I take eggs off is for AMD they should have never released this card!!!

Cons: AMD created the R9 200 series... and they did a terrible job! I have been an AMD fanboy for over 10 years and I can't begin to explain how furious this card has made me. I am an I.T. Tech for a living and myself and 3 co-workers just can't get this card to work. It freezes and locks and blue/black screens any computer I put it in. I am extremely disappointed in AMD, this is beyond ridiculous! After BiOS updates, OS reinstalls, all new and up to date drivers for everything a 1000 watt Corsair PSU a card RMA and even UNDERCLOCKING the card it still just will not work. Do your research on the R( 290 series and you will see what I mean... Just google R9 290 known issues and you will see how bad of a job AMD did making this card. REMEMBER it is an AMD card with XFX skin! This is not XFX's fault or any other vendor who sells the R9 290... It's AMD's fault all the way, just do that google search. In other words the R9 290 problem is not particular to any vendor...AMD messed up and now all the vendors who are nice enough to sell AMD's R9 290 is paying for it along with their customers.

Other Thoughts: Please just remember AMD is to blame not the vendors. The vendors were lied to and so was the consumer. I think the worst part is AMD has not made any actual effort to fix the issue.

Manufacturer Response:

Hey Ed,

Thanks for the kind words of XFX love. I want to let you know, our 290 and 390 Hawaii launches are on-par with the success of previous flagship gpu launches. If you are having issues still, let me know. I am certain we can get it resolved quickly.

4 out of 5 eggsRan great for a few months, then artifacted. I sent it to XFX two times who "tested it". After I completely overhauled my system, it still artifacted.

Pros: Lifetime warranty is a good call. If they actually test the cards properly.

Not too much power consumption.

Handled all the games I threw at it with 50+ FPS.

Not too loud, not too hot.

Cons: I owned an r9 270 from them that's been running for about 4 years now, and never had any problems. Their products are great when they work.

I found out my motherboard was defective after this happened, so I assumed they could replace the card in case I had damaged it by using that motherboard. They assured me they had tested the card with success for 24 hours, and told me to replace my PSU to handle it. I replaced everything in my PC except my RAM, and it STILL artifacted. I'm sure it's the card at this point, just not sure why they wouldn't properly test it.

Nothing really major in the con department, I guess they just didn't test mine properly or something. I mean with graphics cards, you gotta pay to play so I think I'll pick a different company next time.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend it to others, as it's a great card for the money, and it handles games like a champ, and the lifetime warranty is great when it works out fine. I just had bad luck with them, so I might switch companies.

1 out of 5 eggsBroken on arrival

Pros: -Didn't work and was Artifacting

Cons: -Same issue as above

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't know if I would recommend this to anyone until I got a version of the product that worked, Seemed like this was not new and more or less second hand or shipped being defective also keep in mind this products NON refundable for anyone buying beware and the RMA for a replacement likely will take you 2 weeks to recieve.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable and play any game I throw at it.

Pros: #1 It's reliable
Plays any game I throw at
XFX symbol lights up white

Cons: Some could consider the white light a con

Other Thoughts: Great card and super reliable. I want to buy another one to crossfire.

5 out of 5 eggsGaming Monster

Pros: The card itself is very powerful can handle anything you throw at it no sweat! This model is pretty quiet although i have 7 fans in total including the 2 high SP fans on my H80 so this might change depending on your setup. Took a decent oc out of the box im sure i can push it more but its not needed honestly. This is not very clear on some reviews so i would like to point out that the XFX logo on the card does light up while but its no distracting imo, im sure you can just unplug the led if its an issue. runs Dragon Age inquisition maxed out completely 50-60 fps. GTA 5 ultra solid 60 fps as well.

Cons: Had to cut into my mid tower case to get this to fit in the 8X slot lol im currently running the first gen cooler master storm scout case i reckon the card is about 11.50 inches long from longest point to the io plate.

Other Thoughts: Make sure you can fit this in your case if your not comfortable with modding your case or something. im sure it would work in a full size no prob.

5 out of 5 eggsLoving it

Pros: Included in a package build. While not at the top of the charts anymore, it will still play EVERY game out there on Ultra in 1080. Unless you have multiple 4K monitors (not many do), do not over look this card (you can buy 2 and crossfire). I currently have two 24' 1080 monitors, and the gaming is butter smooth with everything maxed. BF Hardline, SW Battlrfront, Black Ops 3, Evolve, Rainbow Six Siege are all incredible looking games with this card. Since it has dual fans, you can rev up the fan speeds and it stays relatively quite.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I break in my cards doing distributed computing. This one does 4+ million points a day in Bitcoin Utopia, or 2+ million a day in Collatz

4 out of 5 eggsGood temps, Okay Overclocking

Pros: -Stays cool
-No coil whine
-OCs a little

Cons: -290x doesn't allow for much OC headroom.

Other Thoughts: I had two of these. The first one did 1108/1400 on default juice, no artifacts in benchmarks. The second one needed +50MV on core and did 1105/1375 without artifacts on Futuremark. Oh well, that's how it is with these chips.

I got a good price during black friday week and saved big over a 390x (which is basically a 290x at OC speeds, plus some memory). XFX i hear is a good manufacturer, so hopefully my experience will mirror many others.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid card

Pros: -Stays very cool
-Competitive price
-runs at 1080p at maxed settings for most games
-Handles overclocking very nicely

Cons: -Starting sagging a wee bit and is now being supported with legos

Other Thoughts: Very solid card indeed. Was a huge upgrade from a gtx 550 ti and I would highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 eggsA great GPU.

Pros: Easy and Powerful, nice aftermarket cooler.

Cons: Pretty large and heavy, I was kinda worried about it flexing int he slot so I Turned my comp sideways, but all large graphics cards will do this.

Other Thoughts: A workhorse for the price. No issues with cooling, generally sits at a nice 65c at load.

5 out of 5 eggs:Very nice

Pros: I purchased this gpu last year on black Friday, and I can say that without any troubles what so ever that this gpu has taken all games I've thrown at it and just shined. I play all genres of games, most mmo's, and even in crowded towns full of people on max settings I still get 40 fps easily. I've kept it at factory settings and this bad boy is simply a beast.

Cons: none yet
