Up to 13db Quieter and 45°F (7°C) Cooler Than Our Competitors

The Exclusive XFX Double Dissipation Design is Cooler and Quieter than Others

XFX's exclusive dual fan double dissipation design utilizes two larger fans which run at slower RPM than comparable single fan solutions which must run at much higher RPMs just to barely achieve the same cooling needs. Because of this design, XFX is able to achieve up to 13db lower noise than the competitor while simultaneously increasing the overall cooling by 45°F (7°C).

Improved Multi Sample Anti-Aliasing MSAA Technology

Smooth Lines is the Difference Between Itty-Bitty Low-Quality Graphics Versus Smooth Realistic Graphics

MSAA smooths out the jagged edges of a curved object. A black curved line on a white background displayed on a computer screen will have some jaggedness along its edges due to the inherent limitations of using discrete pixels to display the image. Anti-aliasing smooths out this jaggedness by filling in the white spaces between the jagged edges with varying shades of gray which gives you the smooth soft shadows, crisp sharp lines of buildings, and crisp tiny details in clothing that make your experience truly realistic.

Pros: Great for 1080p gaming on ultra settings.

Cons: Video crashes. monitors turn off to save power.. come back 12hrs later, no video whatsoever.. reboot and it works til monitors go off to save energy.

my card is currently in the hands of XFX.. testing it out.. if they send me back the same unit, im going office space on it.. or throwing it in the pacific ocean.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Performance, but a little (very) toasty

Pros: -Great value (better price/performance)
-Looks sleek
-Powerful

Cons: -More power consumption compared to NVIDIA cards
-HOT.

Other Thoughts: Regarding temperatures, reviews claim idle temperatures around 30 to 40 degrees, while I get close to 60. Also runs up to 95 degrees with fan on 100% on certain games. My system doesn't have amazing airflow, but even reviews with Mini ITX builds like mine cite lower temperatures. From what I can tell, either my card is weird, or those numbers are wacky. It was a huge letdown, considering what the reviewers were hyping it up to be.

All in all, it still performs, albeit at higher-than-I-would-like temperatures.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Yuping,

Your GPU is rated to run stable at 95'C, however, the DD models rarely ever break 90'C under extreme circumstances. It could be one of the fans failing...

1 out of 5 eggsSecond screen doesn't work

Pros: The card works really well and faster

Cons: I bought it because it have the option to add a second monitor but I was trying like a month ago to connect the second screen, first when i had the adapter I tried but it doesn't, second I bought a second adapter thi is DVI to VGA but it doesn't works and I thinking the problem is in the Video Card in the second connection, I don't know what to do.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Sebastian,

Im sorry you are experiencing issues. The DVI ports on this card do not support analog. if you want to use VGA, you must use a Displayport to VGA adapter.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great warranty and easy to RMA. Removing the screws and cooling block doesn't void XFX warranty.
One of the quietest 290xs
Compatible with any water block that works with a reference cooler

Cons: not the coolest 290x compared to msi. Hard to remove heat VRAM plate for modding due to large amounts of screws

Other Thoughts: Great gpu to buy if you are planning on using EK or any water blocks. THIS DOESN"T VOID THE WARRANTY unlike asus or other brands

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review. Quick and informative.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

3 out of 5 eggsBlack screen

Pros: When it worked it was a great card.

Cons: This card worked great for 7 months. Then just it went black during use. I don't overclock and am only a casual gamer. I tried reinstalling drivers, setting at low res then rebooting. None of this worked. Put my old 6900 card back in and the system works fine. I'm waiting on XFX tech support to get back to me. (It's the weekend.)

Other Thoughts: I hope this can be fixed. I'm a senior on Soc. Sec. and this card was a big splurge for me.

5 out of 5 eggsRuns Great after 6 months

Pros: Ok after 6 months of use i have decided to revisit my review.

This card has run very well over the past months i have not had an issue with it since amd released there 15.2 driver which fixed alot of issues.

I am able to get 60fps in every game i play at max setting's except H1Z1 but that's and optimization issue.

occording to some people have a magical card as mine runs at 35°c idle and 50°c under load with a ambient temp of 22°c. most people report have temp's in the 70-80's under load

I have also been able to get the card to a stable clock speed of 1.2 ghz but i tend to keep it at stock as it get in the 70's at that speed

This card looks great and the led really makes it pop

Cons: Requires a beefy power supply

Other Thoughts: I'm surprised i have been able to push this card as far as i have, i plan on getting a second one to do 1440p gaming but for now im fine with just the one.

also ever since amd released there 15.2 driver i have not had a single issue with this card, all of the crashes this card was reported have was caused by the 14.x drivers.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth the headache

Pros: When it works the card does pretty well, can't overclock it or it immediately starts to artifact but with the units stock performance why would you really need to. I don't run particularly graphics intensive games so I saw frame rates well over 100 frequently.

Cons: 'when it works'

I bought my first card on black friday for the deal then held onto it for a month before i built the new system. That meant I had to deal with XFX instead of NewEgg when the card failed.

After just a few weeks of use the card would just refuse to come back on after the PC went into hibernation, requiring a full restart. Soon after that it just refused to output any video. It would power up and spin the fans but the monitors sit there cycling inputs looking for video.

Each comunication with XFX takes multiple days to get a response, so getting an RMA ends up taking like a month at least.

XFX tells me I probably have a PSU issue, that my old 750w wasn't enough, so I put a new corsair 850w and the issue persists, I tear apart my other machine ( the card doesn't fit in that case so I had to pull the mobo and get it running outside the case) in order to verify the card is dead, that pc won't even boot with it installed. After all that XFX agrees to RMA, I pay shipping and after a week they agree the card is failing to output any video. XFX then sends me..the same card back...apparently 'fixed'. When I sent the card in, it was immaculate, when I got it back, it was scratched up and the end that connects to the case is all bent up...the test techs were NOT careful with this card.

I installed it and was able to play on it, although it wasn't performing as well, frame rates were almost halved from what they were previous to the failure. I updated drivers and everything, no real reason for the drop in performance.

Now, after less then a month of use in its diminished capacity, the card has failed again. I cannot get it to output any video at all...I suppose I will have to start the RMA process again, and maybe in a month I will have another video card....or the same one again...sigh

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Neil,

Its very strange that 3 cards have failed in this system in a single year and I do understand your frustration. We would encourage you at this point to stop overclocking and leave the card as is until you find what could be causing this failure. I would guess PSU or Motherboard, however, this isn't the place for that.

If you need assistance with your rma, please email me for expedited responses.

5 out of 5 eggsr9 290x

Pros: Bought a pair of these and liquid cooled them. They run everything I've thrown at them on max @ 2560 x 1080. Very happy with the performance of these cards.

Cons: -Draw more power than Nvidia cards, but AMD cards always have better performance/price-ratios so I feel it's worth the extra consumption. 290x cards can pull up to 295W/card

Other Thoughts: I can't speak on XFX thermals because I replaced the stock DD heatsink, but if you're planning on liquid cooling these cards it's always nice to have info on temps.

Running Aquacomputer Kryographics blocks (w/ passive backplate) and a 3 x 120mm Coolgate g2 rad, with 3 x 120mm fans in an in-win s frame case. Games maxed at 2560 x 1080. Games tend to run between 40 and 52 deg C. With an i7-5930k in the loop. All stock voltage/clockspeeds.

I'll update, or post another review if I decide to OC down the road.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid card

Pros: Upgraded from a XFX 6870 to this XFX card because I was pleased with the last one. I can play CS:GO with 16x AA and 4x MSAA and still get ~200fps which looks beautiful. I have a full tower case with lots of 200mm fans so I can never hear the gfx fan even when I run it on 100% load. It does however get quite hot at 100% but that is to be expected. Just make sure your case has adequate cooling to compensate for the extra heat.

Cons: Can't turn off the LEDs on the card itself.
Sometimes after leaving my computer idle for a few hours there is pixelation/distortion on the screen but all I have to do is minimize or maximize any window and it goes away. Hopefully this is fixed in a future driver update.

Other Thoughts: As long as it lasts a few years then I have nothing bad to say about it.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Kyle,

Thank you for the great review. We are happy you are pleased. You can unplug the LED for the XFX logo on the side of the card if you wish.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid for 1440p

Pros: This card performs fairly well at 1440p, but I don't think it will do 4k. It will destroy anything you put in front of it at 1080p. Still very satisfied overall. Build quality is decent. Card runs fairly cool and quiet.

Cons: A bracket would really have been a good idea for the back of this card. It's quite large and I've read many reports of sagging. Steel is cheap, seems like a silly way to try to cut costs.
That LED on the card looks really cool for about 10 seconds. I don't like that I have to take off the heat shroud to unplug it.
Only other con I can think of -- XFX released an 8GB version of this card like a week after I bought it. Wish I could trade up.

Other Thoughts: I picked this card for my new build right at the last second. I had been planning on a 970 the entire time, fortunately the news about the 970s idiotic memory limitations broke just days before I ordered my parts. My goal was to build a current 1440p gaming rig, with the hope of upgrading to 4k at some point in the future.
