XFX Ghost Thermal 2.0 Technology

The New and Improved Floating Heatsink Design of XFX Graphics Cards Provides the Ultimate Cooling Solution

XFX's exclusive ghost thermal 2.0 design creates a floating heatsink with open airflow between the PCB and the cover so that air can quickly ventilate off the card while simultaneously cooling the core process and the components. We've also made major advances from our first generation which includes a heat tested light weight plastic to create an overall lighter thermal which reduces the physical strain on your GPU.

Up to 13db Quieter and 45°F (7°C) Cooler Than Our Competitors

The Exclusive XFX Double Dissipation Design is Cooler and Quieter than Others

XFX's exclusive dual fan double dissipation design utilizes two larger fans which run at slower RPM than comparable single fan solutions which must run at much higher RPMs just to barely achieve the same cooling needs. Because of this design, XFX is able to achieve up to 13db lower noise than the competitor while simultaneously increasing the overall cooling by 45°F (7°C).

Improved Multi Sample Anti-Aliasing MSAA Technology

Smooth Lines is the Difference Between Itty-Bitty Low-Quality Graphics Versus Smooth Realistic Graphics

MSAA smooths out the jagged edges of a curved object. A black curved line on a white background displayed on a computer screen will have some jaggedness along its edges due to the inherent limitations of using discrete pixels to display the image. Anti-aliasing smooths out this jaggedness by filling in the white spaces between the jagged edges with varying shades of gray which gives you the smooth soft shadows, crisp sharp lines of buildings, and crisp tiny details in clothing that make your experience truly realistic.

3 out of 5 eggsR9-290x

Pros: veru fast. easy to install, few hassles while it worked

Cons: Pretty much dead after 4 short months - that's about an extra 80$/month to my gaming - I'm currently getting 1fps on it. Threw in 1 of my old 5750's and it's chugging along fine.

Other Thoughts: The downside of having a 4K monitor... needing one of these puppies

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

Thank you for the review. 1FPS? it might be trottleing way down to idle because of a power issue as well. This unit is still in warranty.

1 out of 5 eggsNot compatible with certain X58 Intel chipsets

Pros: -Pretty decent looking
-Quite powerful
-Slightly cheaper than other twin-fans nVidia GTX 970 during promotions.
-Full 4 GB GDDR5, not 3.5 GB of fast memory with 0.5 GB of slow memory.
-No crossfire bridge needed.
-Open (slightly) twin-fans design, should go pretty well in a case with lots of airflow.

Cons: Not compatible with my current EVGA X58 Classified E760, even with latest update. EVGA won't update the BIOS for me and XFX support only tells me to contact EVGA. Basically, my video card is a 470$ brick right now. All it does is just sit pretty in its box.
Basically, the symptom was that I had no display signal at all, no matter the configuration I did with my various displays. Not even the BIOS was showing up although I could eventually ping my computer after it booted. I did a fairly long troubleshooting until I finally tried it on my NAS, which got an AMD CPU along with a 650 Watts PSU and it worked. So XFX support ruled out it was the Intel X58 chipset that didn't like the card.

Sadly, NewEgg won't allow me a refund because it's :
"According to our records, this item is still covered by the product manufacturer's parts warranty.
According to our records, this item is still covered by the product manufacturer's labor warranty.
This item is not eligible for a refund."
Which is really annoying given that XFX refers me to EVGA and they can't do anything about it.

So now, I'm stuck having to buy a whole new computer just because of an incompatibility that wasn't told anywhere on the product page. It's probably gonna be one of the last time I ever buy on Newegg I suppose...

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

There are no known issues with the X58 chipset unless its absolutely specific to that revision from EVGA. As of now, there are only a few motherboards that have issues with the R series, but frankly they are so rare and sparse, we have'nt truly confirmed them in house. Have you tested the card on another system and PSU to confirm its a compatiblity issue?

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: XFX did a great job with their cooling on this card. Modded Skyrim with ENB runs 60~70C. The Overclock headroom is also very Good. With Afterburner the core and AUX voltage is adjustable.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Make sure you have a good power supply with 2 6/8 pin cables. DO NOT USE 1 cable with splitter. The card draws a large amount of current. Also if your board has a additional power connector for the PCI-E for Xfire or SLI use it even for 1 card.
The Newer cards seem to OC better than the earlier ones, especially with Elpida memory.

3 out of 5 eggsDecent card

Pros: - Strong card that seems to handle most games on high.
- Relatively quiet card
- Reasonable price

Cons: - Cooling could use some help, card still gets hot fast.
- Had issues with multiple BSODs and the PC crashing.
XFXsupport forum was no help and did not want to RMA the card. Blamed it on "driver issues". Tried the card in another pc with the same problems. Multiple BSODs with crashes.
- Had to figure this problem out myself. Issue seems to be with the hardware having issues switching between 2d and 3d mode. Turning off Hardware acceleration also seems to alleviate the problem. Before then had already switched motherboards and installed a new processor. My Old AMD card worked flawlessly, just had issues with this R9. Had to use MSI afterburner to adjust 2d and 3d clocks seperately so its somewhat stable now.

Other Thoughts: XFXSupport needs to be better, would maybe look at another brand or manufacturer for the R9 290x

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsPuuurfect.

Pros: I bought this card with one mission at hand: to play MechWarrior Online on maxed out settings and the results are beautiful.

Plays everything I throw at it at max settings paired with a FX8350.
XFX never disappoints in the quality of they're products.

Cons: Not a con but I just wish there was choice in color for the XFX logo that lights up on the card.

Other Thoughts: At the price of the sale I am very pleased.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat card but has problems Crossfiring

Pros: Single card runs great plays all my games on ultra!

Cons: In a Crossfire set up I can't get the cards to work. My system runs slower, unless I overclock my processor higher then I feel comfortable with.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Mavrick,

Thank you for the review. If you are still having issues enabling crossfire, please make sure your motherboard supports Crossfire.

If you have any questions, please let us know and im sure we can sort it out quickly.

5 out of 5 eggsXFX 290x

Pros: `Runs any game I throw at it on max settings with no less than 40 fps even while streaming.
`Quiet, and attractive lighting
`Runs cool for the most part with a well ventilated case.

Cons: The only con that I might possibly have is that when I run and stream high demanding visual games, bf4 etc... It will run 90+ temp. Other than though it's well worth every dime.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this card to anyone. It's not the r9 295x2, but it's up there with the best.

1 out of 5 eggsWould like to see it work

Pros: None

Cons: Only got black screen after latest drivers installed. I finally got picture after using older drivers, but after 5 minutes reverted to black screen. The power supply was a Corsair 850w 80+ and I also tried the card in another rig with a 1300w supply with the same results. Now I am getting nothing, not even a post screen.

Other Thoughts: I put a trouble ticket into XFX whose boards I have always used, but I have not got any reply.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

Which boards are you referring? Please use our support site at xfxsupport.com for RMA and troubleshooting services.

Please contact me at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com so i can personally expedite this RMA.

3 out of 5 eggsExtremely Disapointed

Pros: Price (If you buy it March 2015 Time)
Looks Very nice
One of the quietest cards I have owned even at 100%
Cool XFX Logo that lights up

Cons: No matter what I have tried I get a profanic amount of FPS. I didn't have as much problems with a single card for some reason. I have tried every remedy, core unpark, DDU, combos of PCI slots, single, cfx, new hard drive, Fresh OS and somehow it gets like 40 fps in BF4 and like 30-60 in CSS. Once in a while when its feeling good it will give me 80-100 with bf4 using Mantel. Then I relaunch game and again with the (Insert Your Choice Of Profanity Here).

Very HOT (90c / 180 F Area when playing a long time)
Only a couple games that really support CFX
Very expensive the route I went
Massive FPS Issues across all games and DX levels
Bad Power connector location

Other Thoughts: I bought one during the mining rush and paid $600, bought another one for CFX, just a couple dollars under 1K. Dropping this much on cars for 1080p is overkill but my motto is if your going to do it then over do it, with that being said my next build will be exclusively Intel & Nvidia, idc ill pay $500 - $800 extra on parts but im sure it will be well worth it, and besides how in the hell does AMD platforms not have PCI x4 by now? They are so behind the game its sad. But ATI/AMD is ahead of the GPU market. We will see how the Nvidia class action law suit in Cali plays out with there deceptive marketing on the GTX series. Anyways im pretty much done with AMD / ATI. I have only had one intel build in my pc building career but I guess this is a fairwell from a disgruntled & loyal AMD user. But by all means if you haven't upgraded cards for a couple years go for it.

8350 @ 4.2

16GB Gskill Sniper @1866
