5 out of 5 eggsWow

Pros: Fast, unbelievably fast. Runs cool comparatively. Looks sleek. XFX logo lights up.

Cons: Huge. Make sure you have a large case. Might be large enough that sag could be an issue.

Other Thoughts: I cranked everything up in Metro 2033 in DX11 to see what I would get. I was averaging 70-80 FPS with occasional dips into the 40s when paired with a 4690k. Amazing.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review, we appreciate the positive feedback!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat GPU for first time builders

Pros: My case: Cooler Master Scout 2 Advanced. Two intake fans in the front, two at the side, and one exhaust at the top and back.

I don't exactly know how to review this card, so I'll start off by saying that it's an absolute beast. It can handle whatever I throw at it, the card runs very cool, and very quiet. Aesthetically, it's absolutely beautiful.

As of right now, I only play Battlefield 3, League of Legends, GMod, Minecraft, and Tekkit.

When Idle, the card runs at around 35-40 degrees idle, and around 75 under load.

Whether its idle or under load, my fans even run louder than the graphics card.

It is quite a big card, and will only fit in my Mid Case if I remove the HDD Cages (Cooler Master Scout 2 Advanced).

Battlefield 3: 80-110 FPS (Ultra Settings)

League of Legends: Around 300 FPS (All maxed out, I have it locked at 60/V-Sync)

Minecraft: Around 200 FPS (All Maxed out, 16 view distance, 256x256 texture pack)

Tekkit: Around 80-100 FPS (All Maxed out, 16 view distance, 256x256 texture pack)

GMod: I don't know but it runs any map I throw at it, including Slender Forest (All Maxed out)

I didn't but this card off of NewEgg however. I bought it off of an auction (no clue how old it is, but the warranty ends in 2016) to avoid a DOA product, since I'm scared to death of those.

Cons: Warranty Void stickers. I wish I could replace the thermal paste so I could overclock this baby.

Other Thoughts: I knew XFX was a good company to buy my graphics card from. I always had a good feeling about them. I made the right choice when I chose this card. Thank you very much for a great product, and an amazing first build.

Just a heads up, my case had 4 intake and 2 exhaust fans (two intake at the front, two intake at the side running at around 50-60% speed, and one exhaust in the top and back).

1 out of 5 eggsBad card

Pros: Great frame rate and high performace.

Cons: Based on reviews I took a chance and its a bad card. Constant random crashes even running the latest beta drivers. Is there no quality control on any of the video cards anymore?

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We're sorry you are having issues with you card.

Typiicaly this isn't a hardware issue, so please contact us at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com for assistance.

1 out of 5 eggsRecieved a Brick.

Pros: It turned on..

Cons: I received a bricked XFX card. I have tried plugging it in to all three different slots on my motherboard, but it doesn't show up as even existing in the bios. The fans spin and it lights up with power connected to it. Returning this and wont be purchasing from XFX again.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

So the card turned on, showed you bios, but didnt show up in bios (it shouldn't)? Did you load into windows with the 290? Did you install the driver?

I am certain i can help you resolve your issue, please contact us at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card - Terrible Customer service

Pros: I purchased 2 of these beast for a crossfire configuration and these cards have met all expectations. I am a heavy gamer and play at 5760x1080 (triple 1920x1080's eyefinity) with almost all of the eye candy turned all the way up and hardly ever drop bellow 60FPS on any-game.

I have a seasonic x-1250 power supply and two of these cards really tax the PSU. I have my PC plugged into a kill-a-watt meter and I have spiked as high 1075watts! Now, I have three LED monitors plugged in as well but they only draw about 20 watts each. I can not stress this enough, make sure you have a beefy power supply that has a 6pin and a 8pin PCIe power plug. Do not use adapters. If your P/S doesn't have the hook ups, it probably isn't going to support the demands of these cards.

I haven't over clocked these cards at all because I like my system to run cool. Even though these cards keep the GPU pretty cool under gaming, the VRM temps get ridiculously high under load. This isn't so much a problem for the cards as they can apparently handle the heat, but this heat is exhausted into your case and heat up other components that can't handle the heat as well.

Cons: There's only two cons that I've discovered.

First, technical support. It's one of the worst I have ever dealt with.

At the time of purchase, these cards had issues with sound stuttering at certain resolutions. I contacted support and at first they wouldn't acknowledge the problem. I contacted AMD directly and they informed me they were in fact working on the issue as it was effecting other people too. AMD fixed the sound stuttering less than a week later with a BETA driver (catalyst 14.3 - (now fully realized with 14.4)....

So, while I understand this isn't a problem XFX couldn't have fixed, it just shows me they don't keep in close contact with their AMD partners.

But the sound and driver issue isn't what makes me dislike XFX support so bad. It's the fact that it can take almost a week for a simple response. Seriously, for 3 back and forth messages took 2 weeks. This is probably the reason for lifetime support, it takes a lifetime to get a message through. Unacceptable! Ticket# - T1403140027

Second issue is with the cooling. Yes, this cooler keeps your card cool but at the expense of dumping a bunch of heat into your system.
With my crossfire setup I was dumping too much heat onto the PCH (what used to called the southbridge area) causing my PC to shut down due to the motherboards thermal protection implementation.
My first thought was my motherboard just couldn't handle heat over the PCH, So, I replaced the motherboard and it didn't solve the issue. So, using this insulate, a turbo fan and a little case modding I was able to isolate my PCH from the heat and now the system is rock-solid stable.

Other Thoughts: In other thoughts, water cooling these cards wouldn't be a bad idea. See frozen.CPU for various coolers and performance results. XFX allows north American users to remove the heatsink/fan without voiding the warranty. Just make sure you retain the original in the event you need future service.

I'm giving serious consideration to buying two more for a quad fire setup.

My system build consist of the following parts:
ASUS x79 Black edition
Intel core-i7 3930k
8 x 8GB - 64GB Kingston HyperX black ddr3 1600mhz
x2 (crossfire) XFX radeon r9 290 DD's
x2 corsair 360GB in raid 0
x4 2TB WD SE RAID drives in raid 0
x2 4TB WD RED as back ups
BluRay and a DVD drive
all powered by the mighty seasonic x-1250 (one of the best P/S's of all time)

Manufacturer Response:

We appreciate your honesty in feedback and rightfully rating the card and not your experience with some support staff.

As far as the sound issue was concerned, we apologize for not knowing about an AMD issue that we only had seen in isolated incidents, yours being the first if not only.

as always, if you have any questions, please contact us at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com.

Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsNo Issues, FAST

Pros: Quiet while idle
Not noisy when under load.
FAST FAST FAST

Cons: Expensive
Big as a HOUSE, they all are these days.

Other Thoughts: Love it so far. Windows 7 Pro, i5-4670k, MSI Z87-GD65, Fractal Case, EVGA 850W G2 PSU. 8GB 2133 DDR3, Ive seen NO crashes that I've read about regarding the Radeons, not one. I'm not overclocking it. No reason to as it crushes what i throw at it. I do OC the i5 on occasion. Fast as a 780 for $100+ less. Advice, if you build a good system, buy a good PSU. The responses of the XFX reps on this review page helped me make my decision to purchase this card. Thanks!

Manufacturer Response:

Thanks for giving us reps a shout out, we appreciate it. Ill let the team know.

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT CARD

Pros: RUNS COOL IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!
I see so many fools on Newegg giving a great product a kick in the tail? they are the ones that need a swift kick.. they cant possibly be for real! i mean come on with the bull about high temps? what? mine is at mid 42-45c idle and 65 in full battle on Battlefield 4, and with websites open playing flash video AND MY SIDE COVER WITH MY LARGE FAN OFF! SO ti would be less on temps not 65c as my side cover with fan was off!.....man i just don't get these people that have troubles? under-educated in the world of computer builds, and troubleshooting the problems they create? lol

Cons: NONE A BIG FAT NONE...NO CONS! THIS CARD ROCKS! THANKS XFX SWEET PRODUCT

Other Thoughts: XFX THANKS FOR GOING BACK TO THE LIFETIME WARRANTIES ON SELECT CARDS.. ITS GREATLY APPRECIATED!

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful temperatures/performance

Pros: VERY good temps for an R9 290.
Usually idles around 30-36 Celcius and on full load running Crysis 3 or battlefield only ever got to 67-70 Celcius.
This card is SUPER quiet.
GREAT Performance to Price ratio

Cons: When I first saw the Newegg shipping box the card came in, my heart sunk. It was banged up in all ways imaginable. Imagine crumpling up a piece of paper and flattening it out again. It was just like that except with dents on the front. However the XFX box was in perfect shape.
This card is also huuuuge. I got it to fit in my Corsair 400r but some cable management was needed before fitting it in.

Other Thoughts: Great job XFX. You've earned another loyal customer with this fantastic card. Seriously happy with my purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card, Great Value

Pros: -Great Price/Performance Ratio
-Overclocks easily
-Great fan (if you manage it)

Cons: -Runs a bit hot (75c-80c under load)
-Fan turns into a jet engine above 70%
-Catalyst Control Center
-Catalyst Control Center (really...its pretty bad)

Other Thoughts: Set up a fan curve with overclocking software and it runs quiet and cool. I found 60% speed to be the volume/cooling sweet spot. My only complaint is that the secondary DVI port doesn't work for my second monitor. Not sure if it's similar to older ATI models where one is analog only or if mine has an issue.
