XFX Ghost Thermal 2.0 Technology

The New and Improved Floating Heatsink Design of XFX Graphics Cards Provides the Ultimate Cooling Solution

XFX's exclusive ghost thermal 2.0 design creates a floating heatsink with open airflow between the PCB and the cover so that air can quickly ventilate off the card while simultaneously cooling the core process and the components. We've also made major advances from our first generation which includes a heat tested light weight plastic to create an overall lighter thermal which reduces the physical strain on your GPU.

Up to 13dB Quieter and 45°F (7°C) Cooler than Our Competitors

The Exclusive XFX Double Dissipation Design is Cooler and Quieter than Others

XFX's exclusive dual fan double dissipation design utilizes two larger fans which run at slower RPM than comparable single fan solutions which must run at much higher RPMs just to barely achieve the same cooling needs. Because of this design, XFX is able to achieve up to 13dB lower noise than the competitor while simultaneously increasing the overall cooling by 45°F (7°C).

Improved Multi Sample Anti-Aliasing MSAA Technology

Smooth Lines Make All the Difference Between Itty-Bitty, Low Quality Graphics Versus Smooth Realistic Graphics

MSAA smooths out the jagged edges of a curved object. A black curved line on a white background displayed on a computer screen will have some jaggedness along its edges due to the inherent limitations of using discrete pixels to display the image. Anti-aliasing smooths out this jaggedness by filling in the white spaces between the jagged edges with varying shades of gray which gives you the smooth soft shadows, crisp sharp lines of buildings, and crisp tiny details in clothing that make your experience truly realistic.

4 out of 5 eggsfast but huge

Pros: fast, stable. runs middle earth on max settings with no stutter.

Cons: as advertised, this guy is monstrous. the back of the card actually rests on my hard drive. also, there's two small mounting screws on the back plate that kept the card from seating properly. i had to bend the back of my case a bit in order to get the set screws in it.

Other Thoughts: my first ati(amd) vid card, so i'm not sure if this is normal or not. it sometimes fails to draw images while scrolling in firefox. result is a black box instead of the picture, but dragging the window fixes it. also, pitch the driver disk that comes with it and download from amd's site.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Nate,

You shuoldn't have to bend or pry anything to make this card fit... also, you dont want it sitting on your hard drive. These cards get Very hot, it could cause damage long term.

5 out of 5 eggslarge but quality

Pros: Fast and affordable for fps-to-price. I've had it for two weeks with daily use, no problems.

Cons: I've read some of the previous reviews and its large size is a common thread, and it is big. I have a bigger tower to accommodate it, but make sure your specs match up.

Other Thoughts: Had it for a couple weeks and not a problem. Sleek packaging, on-time delivery, everything checks out for me. Also, yes, it's slightly noisy, and large, but if you find a tiny, noiseless card of similar quality, let me know ;)

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review. We appreciate your feedback.

5 out of 5 eggssuper fast

Pros: Super fast. Incredible upgrade from my 6950 crossfire setup.

Cons: I would say biggest drawback for me is that the card is a little clunky in size. Thankfully the card did fit.

Other Thoughts: The card produces discernible noise, but it's not as bad as some make it out to be. Not sure what they're expecting.. The card is FAST. The performance is there. When I buy a sports car I'm not expecting it to sound like an economy car.

I've read some bad reviews that the card dies after a couple days. I've had it for a month now and everything still A-OK. I feel like a couple people just got unlucky.

5 out of 5 eggsObliterates my games

Pros: Coming from a 7850 I wasn't quite sure what sort of improvement I'd get since i'm mainly into mmorpg's like FF14. I must say though, this card blows me away, i could play any of my games on ultra which is an experience that once known can not be unknown. This card deserves to take my money twice.

Cons: VRM's are a little high but since apparently it's rated to handle 120c so I suppose I"m well within regulation.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review! We apppreciate your positive feedback.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked great, when it did

Pros: Sleek design and neat lights. Also pretty quiet.

Cons: Didn't work for longer than 20 minutes.
Super huge and kind of hard to fit in a mid-size case. I had to make room.

Other Thoughts: So, I installed this card and it worked great for the first 15 minutes. Driver installation and everything went smoothly until I went to open a game. When I opened a game, the screen went black and I had no signal. Even after a reboot. I've RMAed the card, hoping for success with this next one.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Billy, we're sorry you are having issues with your card.

Please contact us for further support and replacement options. This kind of failure on a 290 is highly irregular.

5 out of 5 eggsBAAMMM what a greasy fast card

Pros: I like how the dual fan design runs quiet, have had the card since new years and have been gaming happily with some full screen videos couldn't be happier waiting til the price dropped with this beast GPU. Come on now gimme a BAAMM!!

Cons: There's no vga support or whatever

Other Thoughts: It takes up some extra room because the cooler sticks up above the circuit board, but at least the plastic gives you a good place to grab the card when taking it out to show all your friends like a piece of the tri force

4 out of 5 eggsLove it

Pros: Powerful, quite, looks awesome

Cons: There is only one minor issue I have. The fan speed is a little slow to ramp up when the card starts to heat up. Granted, you do have the ability to control it directly, but it is a set and forget setting, instead of an active tracking. Basically, this means, if I am expecting to be grinding some 4k ultraHD gaming, I go into the CCC and set the fan speed to 100% before starting up. It isn't exactly a con, but I would prefer the fan ramped up the speed sooner.

Other Thoughts: As mentioned earlier, I would prefer the fan speed ramped up sooner. As it is, the fan speed is kept low to keep it quiet, and that is all peachy and wonderful if silence it your top priority. I prefer to keep the GPU running cool, so this is not such a good thing.

What I would really like to see is a set of different, active, fan-speed curves that were user selectable....in addition to the current manual control.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card

Pros: This is a great graphics card. We all know the specs so I don't need to elaborate. Sure 290x is faster and greater but I think in terms of price to enjoyment ratio, this is quite good for what you can get. The LED that lights up on the card is also pretty cool. If you have a clear case, it would look quite nice. Settings wise, I'm playing Alien Isolation on 1080p without a hitch.

Cons: The card is very big. VERY VERY big. So know your case's limitations before purchasing it. I already knew about the length of the card so I ditched my CM Storm Scout for a bigger case before buying this card.

5 out of 5 eggsgood card

Pros: No more crossfire bridge, pretty quite considering its a high performance card, price per performance is hard to beat.

Cons: cant think of any.

Other Thoughts: I'm running 3 of these in tri-fire. With 3 cards it eliminates micro stutter and gives super smooth gameplay with max setting for everything. 1200 watt psu does the trick with these cards and a 3770K@4.6.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst purchase decision ever made

Pros: Looks great when it works.

Cons: Constant BSODs - impossible to enjoy.

Other Thoughts: This card has some serious issues. When I first bought it it seemed to run fine, everything looked great. Then I started getting display driver crashes and now BSODs. The problem is getting worse with more frequent crashes and reboots. Absolutely hate myself for buying this junk. XFX support at newegg has not responded to any of my emails. What good is your apology and contact information if you don't respond?? It's just a sham to make it look like they care. Don't buy this card.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

We're sorry you are having issues with your 290. I have double checked my junk/spam mail and i dont have any outstanding support emails.

Please try me at mark@xfxforce.com

Thank you
