XFX Black Edition With GPU Edging

The Black Edition graphics card represent our highest achievement in GPUs

XFX's exclusive Black Edition graphics card are the most rigorously tested graphics card. They are pre-overclocked to the maximum core clock achievable and come from the highest quality yield GPUs which make up the top 1% of those produced in the world. In addition, we pair it with the highest quality components to ensure there are no bottle necks so you can be certain you are getting the best graphics card possible on the market today.

XFX Ghost Thermal 2.0 Technology

The new and improved floating heatsink design of XFX graphics cards provides the ultimate cooling solution.

XFX's exclusive ghost thermal 2.0 design creates a floating heatsink with open airflow between the PCB and the cover so that air can quickly ventilate off the card while simultaneously cooling the core process and the components. We've also made major advances from our first generation which includes a heat tested light weight plastic to create an overall lighter thermal which reduces the physical strain on your gpu.

Up to 13db Quieter and 7°C Cooler Than Our Competitors

The exclusive XFX Double Dissipation design is cooler and quieter than others.

XFX's exclusive dual fan double dissipation design utilizes two larger fans which run at slower RPM than comparable single fan soltuions which must run at much higer RPMs just to barely achieve the same cooling needs. Because of this design, XFX is able to achieve up to 13db lower noise than the competitor while simultaneously increasing the overall cooling by 7°C.

4 GB Memory

AMD Graphics Core Next (GCN) Architecture & 32-bit Ultrawide Bandwidth

Primed to enable astonishing performance and breathtaking image quality, making it a top choice for gamers who expect the best.

Designed to push not only the boundaries of DirectX® 11 gaming, the GCN Architecture is also AMD's first design specifically engineered for general computing. Representing the cutting edge of AMD's graphics expertise, GCN GPUs are more than capable of handling workloads-and programming languages-traditionally exclusive to the main processor. Coupled with the dramatic rise of GPU-aware programming languages like C++ AMP and OpenCL™, the GCN Architecture is the right architecture at the right time.

AMD Power Tune 2.0 Smart Performance Tuning

Fixed clocks speeds are a thing of the past, Power Tune dynamic performance scaling determines the best clock speed in real time.

AMD PowerTune technology is a significant leap forward to better ensure that performance is optimized for TDP-constrained GPUs. AMD PowerTune technology helps deliver higher performance that is optimized to the thermal limits of the GPU by dynamically adjusting the clock during runtime based on an internally calculated GPU power assessment. AMD PowerTune technology can dynamically adjust the performance profile in real time to fit within the TDP envelope.

AMD Dual Graphics Ready

AMD discrete graphics cards when paired with AMD APU based motherboards give you an extra boost in graphics performance.

Get the power of two when you purchase an AMD A-Series Accelerated Processor (APU) based PC with an AMD Radeon™ DirectX® 11.2-capable discrete graphics card. Only AMD Radeon™ Dual Graphics combines two powerful Radeon™ DirectX 11.2-enabled graphics processors to provide the ultimate gaming performance boost when you need it.

Improved Multi Sample Anti-Aliasing MSAA Technology

Smooth lines is the difference between low quality graphics and smooth realistic graphics.

MSAA smoothes out the jagged edges of a curved object. A black curved line on a white background displayed on a computer screen will have some jaggedness along its edges due to the inherent limitations of using discrete pixels to display the image. Anti-aliasing smoothes out this jaggedness by filling in the white spaces between the jagged edges with varying shades of grey which gives you the smooth soft shadows, crisp sharp lines of buildings, and crisp tiny details in clothing that make your experience truely realistic.

Bullet Physics Engine Technology

Get the most out of your gaming experience with real 3D Physics.

Take advantage of the 3D Physics capabilities of some of today's newest titles which include completely destructable objects, walls and buildings collapsing from gun fire, real particle effects such as fire that react to the environment and realistic details such as moving hair, water and much more.

Compatible with the newest Direct X Technology

Meets the standards of the newest games with the latest Direct X driver compatibility.

With every new generation of Direct X, major improvements are made which greatly advance the graphics capabilities of games. That's why it is essential to ensure that you are using a graphics card with the newest Direct X driver compatibility so that you'll get the most out of your gaming experience. See the difference for yourself.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Card

Pros: I've had this card since early 2014, its been well over a year. Overall the card has been great! Most games I can run at ultra settings and still have anywhere from 40-60fps. Pro's are as follows:

Great Cooling (even under heavy load)

XFX version allows for awesome overclocking and comes shipped socked with basic overclocking

XFX versions compared to others, this card has more steamers and higher speed memory. (when I compared to others like MSI and ATI cards over a year ago)

Cons: I don't know if it is a card con or a game con BUT this card has issues with ARMA 3. (see other thoughts)

and also is the fact I purchased this card for $421.81 over a year ago! I'm debating purchasing another one for crossfire but looking at the prices.... I'm shocked, I'd figure it would drop more then has especially considering the better card in the line, the R9 295x version is out...

Other Thoughts: Arma 3 issues:

I have monitored the GPU usage in ARMA 3, it doesn't matter what settings or twicks I perform on the game, (yes I've followed all the MAX FPS guides as well) I'm always riding at roughly 30fps on mulitplayer. I know a lot factor into this such as server connection, system specs etc... but I'm running FX8050 8 core cpu, 16gb of gaming memory and all my games at on a stripped raid SSD hard drives. My specs are more then what is required for the game.

I have monitored the GPU while in game, and again it doesn't matter what settings I apply in game, the GPU never seems to go above 750mhz while in game. I have done some reading online and I believe the issue is that card isn't going into "high performance mode" when the game launches. You can see this happen with other games like Fallout 4 or LOL (basically all other games) etc... it will jump to 800mhz-1000mhz and stay there while I game with no issues!

I don't know if I should blame the card/company for not releasing driver updates to fix this issue with the card not seeing the game correctly and pushing it into high performance mode OR if I should blame the game. Because of this I'm not knocking off any eggs, however, I am knocking off 1 egg for the CCC lack of options, see below.

What I would like to see changed in the catalyst control center is the option to force high performance mode on desktops. They have this for laptops called "switchable mode" which allows you to switch between on board GPU or not, and also the option to assign applications/games to force them into High Performance mode when opened, HOWEVER, it is only for LAPTOPS!, they do not have this for DESKTOPS... WHY! TELL ME WHY GUY!

Other then that. I'd highly recommend the card and I will most likely purchase another for Crossfire on Black Friday! XFX is the way to go for sure, they might higher quality produces that will last!

5 out of 5 eggsVery Pleased

Pros: -Stays below 70 C under load
-Consistently stays around 60 fps or higher
-Able to handle all latest games on Ultra
-Not overly loud by my standards, can't hear it over tower fans
-No driver issues as of yet like many complaints have said, minus small issue listed in cons
-Big bang for $$

Cons: -On Project Cars I was having issues with the grass effects turned up, would cause grass artifacts to spread across whole screen and make it unplayable. Turned off grass effects, perfect experience since.

Other Thoughts: -(My Fault) I could have gotten the 8GB version for hardly more $$, really bugged me for not paying attention to that. I will try and run SLI when the price goes down on this one and I get some extra money.
-The games I consistently play are: GTA V, BF4, PCARS, Arkham Knight, Cities Skylines, Counter strike GO. All these games have no issues running on Maximum settings with this GPU. I HIGHLY suggest it for someone looking for the best GPU for the $$. I realize some people say they have been having issues with drivers, I have not so I can't complain about that.
-Would buy again, and I will.

3 out of 5 eggsGood card, AMD makes human waste product drivers

Pros: Card appears to work fine. It makes a fair bit of noise when the fans are going full blast, I'd say a sizable amount more noise than my old 660Ti.

Cons: AMD drivers... Sweet baby geesus I thought the issue was being over exaggerated on the internet, but nope, they crash almost guaranteed once a day. And when they do it hoses both my virtualbox vm and skyforge. It also appears to have issues with monitors going to sleep and altering desktop resolutions, which moves all my windows and icons. Never had the issue with nvidia.

Other Thoughts: Can't say anything against XFX, they seem fine. Looks like all the issues lie with AMD. All in all, I'd say the card is ok if you get a deal, but be prepared for issues with software. This was my trial on returning to Team Red, but next card is going to be Team Green, regardless of sale prices...

Manufacturer Response:

hey Jeremiah,

Driver crashing on a regular basis is truly bizarre. its probably more of a 3rd party software issue than anything else. Shoot me an email at and i'll help you sort this out personally.

2 out of 5 eggsMicro Stuttering

Pros: Honestly I cant really give any pros because ever since a bought this card in exchange for my GTX 750 I have been having consistent issues with micro stuttering. Playing games is nearly unbearable. I know pretty much the basics about computers and the only things that I have upgraded in my PC is the PCU and the graphics card. For now I am thinking my gaming issues is due to the card.

Cons: I have micro stuttering issues in all games. Especially in CSGO and Arma 3. I have no idea how to fix it and from what I read on forums in seems to be fixs for specific games like "How to fix Micro stuttering in 'x' game" but it seems like I have issues in all games.

Other Thoughts: I would really appreciate any help from anyone on how to fix my issue. I really dont know what to do because in buying this card I cant return it. I only can get a new card through warranty and im not sure a new card will even fix my issues.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the review Patrick, we appreciate your feedback. Please email me for a quick driver tutorial that may fix all of these issues. It sounds like you also may be having interference with a 3rd party software which could cause micro-stuttering

4 out of 5 eggsGreat performing card

Pros: -Runs all my games on maxed out settings
-Nice look, LEDs
-Stays fairly cool

Cons: -Size, this card is massive, make sure you have plenty of room in your case if you're going with this card

Other Thoughts: I had some issues with crashing and whatnot which is why I gave it 4/5 but most of those issues turned out to be my motherboard not being fully updated. Other than that, it's a fantastic card!

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Anon,

Thank you for the great review. We're happy everything is going as planned and working as intended.

1 out of 5 eggsFirst and maybe last XFX card.

Pros: More bang for your bucks than Nvidia card.

Cons: Artifacts and crash the first day of using the card playing game. I didn't even overclock anything. System would freeze and lock up during FPS gaming. I even get artifacts on normal desktop. Even contacted their customer service and they're really slow at responding.

Other Thoughts: I just want the problem to go away. XFX could you tell your employee to do their job and help out the customer.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Long,

we're sorry you are having issues. Whom did you contact? Please contact me immediately for warranty servicing.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor customer service no game with bundle

Pros: none

Cons: The card didn't come with BF4 game as listed in the descriptions. Called Newegg customer service they said to call XFX customer service since they claimed they were responsible for the item description. Called XFX customer service. The person on the other line was rude and told me the promotion ended a year ago and I was getting no game and I can call newegg back if I chose to do so it was up to me to decide what to do from here. This is my fourth and last card from XFX.

Manufacturer Response:

The fine-print of the specifications mention the BF4 bundle and it is a typo. We apologize for this and have made an effort to have it removed for some time.

Unfortunately this bundle expired over a year ago, and the bundle that replaced it has since expired as well. If we had a game bundle to offer you, we would have.

We apologize for the mistake.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Product

Pros: Works great when you first get it.
Looks great.

Cons: Fails on you within months.
Bends in the case seems like its not made with high end plastic.
Had to get a hold of customer service twice now.
Customer service takes forever to reply and I mean forever.

Other Thoughts: Over all its not worth buying this card, It would be better to go with another card from XFX or another company all together. Not worth the four hundred dollars.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Dixie, We're sorry you had issues with your 290.

If you have any questions, please contact us via email or at I can expedite any claims or RMA servicing needs.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Card

Pros: Works as it should no crash so far. Install was nice and easy. Up scaling resolution works nice.

Cons: Only see small improvement over xfx HD 7850 1gb ghost, but it did crash from low VRAM.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the review. This shouldn't be crashing... Are you still having issues with crashing?

If you have any questions, let me know.
