Improved Multi-Sample Anti-Aliasing MSAA Technology

Smooth Lines Make All the Difference Between Itty Bitty, Low-Quality Graphics Versus Smooth Realistic Graphics

MSAA smooths out the jagged edges of a curved object. A black curved line on a white background displayed on a computer screen will have some jaggedness along its edges due to the inherent limitations of using discrete pixels to display the image. Anti-aliasing smooths out this jaggedness by filling in the white spaces between the jagged edges with varying shades of gray which gives you the smooth soft shadows, crisp sharp lines of buildings, and crisp tiny details in clothing that make your experience truly realistic.

5 out of 5 eggsAwsome graphics card

Pros: 512 bit GDDR5
Games, video editing, whatever I do its fast with no issues
Working for over a year and no issues so far

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Tossed this in on a build over a year ago, with a Fatal1ty MoBo , 8 core 8350 CPU, and low Cas Mem
A great Video Card can really do its job if the rest of the system can feed it properly

4 out of 5 eggsWow, talk about draging it out!

Pros: It does a good job as I'm a light gamer these days. I only changed my video card because the old one died and I wanted the options

Cons: I haven't had problems with heat or noise, but you couldn't get me to buy this at it's current price. What a joke! You could get it at the same price a year ago!

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review! We are happy you are pleased.

2 out of 5 eggsBeen a NIGHTMARE

Pros: I wrote my previous review on my phone and it shows up as anonymous so I am writing again with my name.

Bought this on May of 2015, seemed like it worked right out of the box. Uninstalled previous drivers (AMD) and installed this card, installed the drivers and got it going. I tried playing Fallout New Vegas with ENB graphics mod but it immediately froze up the game and crashed it. Right then and there I thought the card was messed up cause all I saw was pink.

Uninstalled ENB and launched it and seemed to work. I've gotten a BSOD on YouTube video's quite a few days after. I disabled hardware acceleration and that seemed to have fixed the issue.

Played FarCry 4, Metal Gear Solid TPP, Witcher 3 from June to September and it all seemed dandy... until...

Cons: Mid September I started to have issues with my games freezing up with a sound loop. At first I thought it was an issue with Metal Gear Solid V, but it started to do the same problems in Witcher 3 when I was able to play the game fine a few months back.

I've tried flushing of drivers but same freezing issue. Honestly I kind of knew that my PSU wasn't the greatest (it was a 730w PSU with 1PCIE cable that runs 6pin and 8pin on the same line). The first thing I did was order a new PSU from NewEgg which was a Corsair RM850i, 850w fully modular with 70amps on 12v. This time as I read resources online, I put 2 different PCI cables on the card. One 8pin PCI cable and one 6pin PCI cable.

Now in December, although I haven't extensively tested to see if it freezes with the sound loop again, I am getting BSOD issues even outside of games. The BSOD code is always pointing to AMD graphics drivers, which can be drivers or GPU hardware.

I am not stating you should not buy this card but be weary. I am not sure if it's an XFX issue or AMD drivers issue, but I am getting really fed up with issues related to the graphics card. I used to use a XFX Radeon 6670 and that worked flawlessly for 3 years but after all this experience I think it's time for me to give Nvidia a chance. It's a bit unfortunate as I have trusted XFX for a long while and loved their products but this experience has put a bad taste in my mouth.

Other Thoughts: I am trying to make this review as fair as possible to consumers. Not suggesting XFX is horrible, but my confidence level at this moment is quite low regardless if it's AMD or XFX.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

It sounds like there is an unstable overclock on this card, if its card related. It could be drivers, ram, motherboard, 3rd party software... anything really, have you tried swapping the card out for a different one? Would you like to send it in for warranty servicing?

2 out of 5 eggsBSOD issues

Pros: Got this card in May of 2015 and wanted to wait to write a review as I've heard mixed reviews about this card.

I know there has been many users with black screen issues with the r9 290 and 290x's and fortunately I haven't fallen victim to that. The card worked right out of the box and played Witcher 3, FarCry 4 and MGS V with stable 60FPS until...

Cons: In September 2015 I started to have random sound loop freezes and hard lock ups. At first I thought it was the temperatures of the GPU since it was really hot outside and our AC was broken. Then I thought it was my PSU because to be honest, the brand that I had was not reputable and not even bronze certified.

Bought a brand new Corsair RM850i Gold standard PSU and I was able to game again without lock ups. But in all honesty I did not fully stress test the card because I barely had enough time during October and November.

Now in December, I started to get BSOD's with this card being at fault. I am not sure what to do anymore and I am honestly fed up with this GPU issue. Out of my 15 years of experience with compyters, I have never had this much trouble with a graphics card or computers in general. My previous card was an XFX Radeon 6670 and worked flawlessly for 3 years. Now I am not sure if I can trust XFX or maybe it's AMD but I am thinking of going to NVIDIA instead of maybe even attempting to RMA this card and dealing with the issue not even being fixed at all.

5 out of 5 eggscustomer service

Pros: powerful card for the price

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: With all the different card manufacturers out there its all about customer service. Bought the card in jan2015, card started to drop signal to monitor in jul2015. Started a ticket and got an RMA to send it back to XFX. While it took some time to resolve the problem, at the end of it XFX sent me a new card. Their service left me a satisfied customer.

5 out of 5 eggsNewegg & XFX

Pros: Great graphics solution
Newegg gave me $30 rebate
XFX built the card

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Bought this card last August. The GPU fan failed Oct. 2, 2015 (Friday). Contacted XFX online support. Response came early that Sunday. New cooler assembly shipped following Monday. 4 out of 5 eggsHmmmm

Pros: Works,,,,Bought this card mainly for watching movies on the big screen. Did I mention it Works....

Cons: See other thoughts....None at this time.

Other Thoughts: When I installed this card it worked for about 10 mins. then quit. I pulled the card out and reinserted it and no go. I changed PCIe slots and it's working as of now. Maybe I have a bad PCIe slot on my motherboard. Two days later and it's still working. So maybe it's me. But it is working and doing fine at this time.

5 out of 5 eggsThis is a great card !

Pros: Runs everything on high > 1920x1080 flawlessly > Went from 2 >> XFX 6950 2 gig cards To this one= Huge improvement=The games now days only require 1 card with a lot of ram ,They don't even utilize crossfire To bad I miss my crossfire. And the reason I stayed with the XFXR 9 290 is because the lifetime warranty> That is why I did not get the R 9 390 only 2 year warranty> Same Gpu in both cards!

Cons: The only con I see,Is that it is not free LOL

Other Thoughts: Now Even XFX cards is only 2 year warranty >> Life time is always better !
