The New and Improved Floating Heatsink Design of XFX Graphics Cards Provides the Ultimate Cooling Solution

XFX's exclusive ghost thermal 2.0 design creates a floating heatsink with open airflow between the PCB and the cover so that air can quickly ventilate off the card while simultaneously cooling the core process and the components. We've also made major advances from our first generation which includes a heat tested light weight plastic to create an overall lighter thermal which reduces the physical strain on your GPU.

The Exclusive XFX Double Dissipation Design is Cooler and Quieter than Others

XFX's exclusive dual-fan, double-dissipation design utilizes two larger fans which run at slower RPMs than comparable single fan solutions, which must run at much higher RPMs just to barely achieve the same cooling needs. Because of this design, XFX is able to achieve up to 13dB lower noise than the competitor while simultaneously increasing the overall cooling by 45°F (7°C).

Improved Multi Sample Anti-Aliasing MSAA Technology

Smooth Lines Make All the Difference Between Itty Bitty, Low-Quality Graphics Versus Smooth Realistic Graphics

MSAA smooths out the jagged edges of a curved object. A black curved line on a white background displayed on a computer screen will have some jaggedness along its edges due to the inherent limitations of using discrete pixels to display the image. Anti-aliasing smooths out this jaggedness by filling in the white spaces between the jagged edges with varying shades of gray which gives you the smooth soft shadows, crisp sharp lines of buildings, and crisp tiny details in clothing that make your experience truly realistic.

5 out of 5 eggsso far so good!

Pros: havent really been really pushing it too much but it runs everything i have played on max settings. got it for $169 and a $20 rebate is inbound so thats a huge plus. quieter than my old hd 6850.. also a plus! didnt have to mess with much, it set itself up after i installed it on my mobo.

Cons: none you fools

Other Thoughts: make sure you have room because its a big boy card. it looks nice though

5 out of 5 eggsOne week in... initial thoughts

Pros: -Lower noise output than my old 7850
-Excellent bang for your buck - the Nvidia equivalent costs almost twice as much, last time I checked
-As long as you have a 750w or higher PSU, this card performs rock solidly
-Lower heat output than my old 7850
-Very cheap right now ($169.99 before MIR)
-Limited lifetime warranty via XFX
-$20 MIR as of this posting
-For the price point, you're getting a near-top-of-the-line graphics card from AMD (I think it's either the 3rd best or 4th best card at the moment from AMD)

Cons: -Not really a con, but make sure you have an 8pin adapter on your PSU prior to purchasing this card. It comes with a couple adapters, but the one is a combo 6+2 pin, and it's usually better to have a straight 8 pin.
-Also not a con, but the graphics card is so quiet I had to check to make sure the fans on it were working
-Has issues with AA as all AMD cards seem to. Detection issues with certain games (SW TOR I'm looking at you) where the game will default to low/medium settings even though the card can run the game with most/all eye candy maxed.

Other Thoughts: This card is big. It probably won't fit in a micro atx case, but should fit in a medium/large case providing your PCIE slot isn't right next to your drive bays.

***MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AT LEAST A 750W PSU!***

Card is PCIE 3.0 compatible, but backwards compatible. Also, games like Thief which are forward-designed for the max graphics setting, struggle in cutscenes but do fine in the general game.

Another thought is back when the 4xxx series by AMD was popular, a lot of people had issues with XFX because their 4xxx series cards had a really annoying high pitched whine to them. That is most definitely NOT the case with this card.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Timothy,

Thank you for the great review. Its definately a big card and we recommend atleast a 550W PSU.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Great Price with $20 Rebate
Good graphics
Easy to install

Cons: Size-Be sure to measure first, I bought originally for my son and his mid size X-Blade case but won't fit without removing harddrive cage. Instead put in my full-tower THOR case and fit perfect.

Other Thoughts: I haven't had an XFX card in probably 8 years but so far excellent quality. I am waiting on rebate so can't comment yet on that. So far amazing card and great experience.
Note: I am upgrading from 1GB Geforce GTX 550 Ti card so this is a big step up.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Thaddeus,

Thank you for choosing XFX and finding your own solutions. If there's anything we can help you with, please let us know.

Also, i can manually approve your rebate claim if you send me your rebate tracking #.

5 out of 5 eggsPrice/Performance Champ

Pros: Perfect combination of GPU grunt and VRAM for 1080p @ high-ultra settings with excellent frames per second.

Amazing performance per dollar and unbelievable OCing - without adding any voltage at all, my card benchmarked @ 1.2 GHz(though a little bump in power did ensure it was completely stable) with the memory running @ 1450MHz. To give you an idea of exactly how that compares to other cards, those settings were good for 43.7 fps on the Extreme HD preset in Unigine Valley(8370e cpu with several tasks running in the background)!

Temperatures are kept in check wonderfully and AMD's drivers are spot on. Still can't believe the Black Edition was $159.99

Cons: Screen tearing when watching youtube - might be something else, who knows.

Other Thoughts: This card doesn't have the light up XFX which I thought it did, so that was a disappointment. It's not small so make sure you have room for it.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for the great review. We appreciate the positive feedback.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA graphics card that you can't return/exchange.

Pros: Looks great, but that's it.

Cons: Doesn't work right out of the box and I just received it today along with a 750 Watt power supply specifically to support this new video card. Now I have a bad video card which can't be returned to Newegg even though it arrived in non-working condition. No visual appearance of damage, so it must be defective. The only way to get the manufacturer to replace it is to register it with them and I find that silly to register a defective product right out of the gate, so I am little disappointed with Newegg in that regard. Even more disappointed with XFX and I will try to work with their RMA process, but I am not hopeful on that outcome being a great help.

Other Thoughts: Purchase many items from Newegg and they are my go to store for computer parts. This is my second XFX video card that has disappointed me in the last 4 years. Will probably stick with other brands as they are more reliable with their products.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Ora,

We are sorry you are having issues with your 280. I would be happy to help you resolve any issues you have or start an RMA if necessary. Please contact us at neweggsupport@xfxforce.com

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent card

Pros: Very good card. Not the top of the line but it falls in the tech transition where new R9 290 is out and this card is discounted. This card has 3GB DDR5, which is what you need for high performance graphics. I love it. I bought it with $20 rebate with final price of $159 ..... very happy customer.

Make sure your power supply can handle real 550W. I had trouble powering this card with 700W PSU.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice

Pros: Ranks 7.9 Windows Graphics, Seems to be a great card, 4k, HDMI, 3GB

Cons: None Really

Other Thoughts: I won't consider this a con but what you read about this card being large... it's true not a bad thing though but you may have to actually modify the inside of your case (like me) if you want to fit this bad boy in

5 out of 5 eggsfantastic performance for a great price

Pros: Defianetly a solid performer. Upgraded from an xfx radeon hd 6000 series. All i can say is wow. I was worried about a bottleneck as im running on a pci express 2.0 board with an amd phenom II x4 3.5 ghz. Obviously not a problem. Running gta 5 almost maxed out 1080p 50-60fps thanks to my 60hz monitor lol.

One thing to know. Reccomended power supply is 750w. I have a 650w . I bought a 6 pin atx to 8 pin adapter and its running full potential.

Cons: HUGE. Had to remove hdd cage to install.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Great upgrade from an Nvidia 560...

Cons: Not the 280X

Other Thoughts: Should have paid more attention to the details. The 280X was just a few dollars more on another site. The X specs are better, but worth it? I dunno. Not going to complain still can play GTA5 in 1080 on high/ultra around 35+ FPS. Looks good to me.

3 out of 5 eggsMaybe - maybe not

Pros: -It's a good Graphics Card
-Good Price ( since i got it with a deal with 8 gigs of RAM)
-Friendly display manager

Cons: -On arrival and to current , will not detect other monitor.

Other Thoughts: I do not think that the Item was DOA, but it may be something incase with the drivers, or my PSU. PSU becasue i only have 660 i beleive instead of the 750 min ( Thats what i get for not reading). So im going to go and get a 850 Power Supply and see how things come to term, becasue i really like the graphics of this graphics card but if the other display port doesnt work then i have no choice but to send it back or send it to get it fixed and etc... THE HASSLE!!

Manufacturer Response:

Hey Dion,

Please contact me for some quick troubleshooting. The majority of no-signal issues like this are caused by owners forgetting to plug in both 6pin power connectors.
