1 out of 5 eggsOld repackaged trash

Pros: Shows video using standard Windows display driver (if you like 800x600 resolution and 256 color mode).

Cons: 1. HIS provides no drivers for this card on their website. The driver page for this model says "Coming Soon."
2. The installation CD is worthless. It has an ancient version of ATI's Catalyst driver on it, and has a link to ATI's old website (not even the new AMD-owned ATI site) to "get the latest drivers." It doesn't link back to HIS's own site? Ridiculous.
3. AMD / ATI does not support the Radeon VE (which is what this card's chip actually is). They call it a "Radeon 7000" to make it sound like a standard Radeon model, but it's not. It's the "Value Edition" - designed for integrated motherboard-based graphics, not for use in a standalone card. ATI has no drivers on their site that work with this - they say you must get them from the manufacturer. HIS's site doesn't have current drivers... so you're stuck.
4. Only works with Windows 2000 or XP. Don't bother trying to get any driver to work with this card in Windows Vista or Windows 7 - they don't work.

Other Thoughts: If you're using 10 year old technology, this is a great card for you. The driver is 32-bit only (no 64-bit OS support). The company doesn't support the product on their own website. It only works in XP or Windows 2000 - and even then, just barely.

If you're looking at this card as a possible TV-out card for a modern HTPC, stay FAR FAR away. Junk. I'll be sending mine back to Newegg after the weekend.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear KJ,

Thank you for your support to our product
.
Due to legacy of your video card, updated drivers are limited for your series card in windows 7 and vista. You may try the following link for Vista.

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Legacy/Pages/radeonaiw_vista32.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.8&lang=English

If you need to use Windows 7, you may want to consider upgrading your video card to HD 2400 series or higher to be compliant with it.

I hope the information will be useful to you. Please feel free to contact us again if you have further questions.
Again, thank you for your interest and support to HIS products.

Warm Regards,
HIS Marketing

5 out of 5 eggsWork on my VGA monitor

Pros: VGA works

Cons: n/a

Other Thoughts: I only bought this because I wanted a PCI card to connect my VGA monitor when doing some FreeNAS installation and setup. I did not experiment with the other two outputs.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Card

Pros: I put this on an old machine turned into media center in which I wanted DVI and S-Video out. Both work well.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: I only watch avi's and DVD's, don't play any games or anything graphic intensive so can't speak to that.

5 out of 5 eggsSlide Show Card

Pros: Great value card. I bought this card to fit inside an older system to display a slide show to an external monitor and an S-Video connected to a TV Matrix running to 3 more monitors. The card produces enough of a boost through the VGA port and the S-Video port to easily support the Slide Show in this older system. Quality is great for these slide show presentations and it runs cool.

Cons: none.

1 out of 5 eggsSlow

Pros: Supports Dual Monitor and DVI Port

Cons: This is one the slowest graphic cards I have ever used. It's even slower than my original graphics on my motherboard from 4 years ago. Not impressed in any way.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card for the price

Pros: I used this card to supplement a memory upgrade to a Dell 2400. When I originally tried to upgrade the memory, I couldn't max out the system without the onboard video crashing. It would only work with Dell's original 256mb card. Go figure. Disabled the onboard video in Device Manager and WHALAH! I'm only running one monitor on this system so it's the perfect solution.

Cons: none, so far....

1 out of 5 eggsBeware ATI's Ineptitude

Pros: Pci video card with dual outputs and TV out

Cons: This card does not play well with all other video cards. In fact, the cases I've seen have both been when attempting to use it with another ATI card, which is downright silly.

I had a third monitor sitting around and attempted to install this on a Dell Optiplex 755 with windows XP installed. The existing video card was an ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro. The first thing I noticed was that the card was not showing up in windows or Catalyst Control Center. In fact, I discovered that neither card had a version of CCC that supports them both.

I assumed that this was no problem and installed the video driver only for this card. The machine would no longer boot (failing somewhere within XP loading). If you search around you'll find that many other people have had this problem. As a result, I just plain can't use the card.

Other Thoughts: I would not buy this card to run in tandem with others because it can not be trusted. Do you really want to gamble to see if it will kill your system when paired with your existing video card? With the number of people I've seen with my problem, I would look at other options.

On top of this, after my system was wrecked I had to restore things. I pulled out this new card and reinstalled everything for my old one. Then Catalyst Control Center wouldn't launch (which I found to be another unsolveable and common problem) so I couldn't rotate my monitor. I managed to solve it by installing a different (older) video driver and Catalyst Control Center; most people seem to solve this by reformatting this computer. The entire ordeal ended up taking about 4 hours.

Considering the inconvenience I suffered because of this card, I'm giving this product the lowest rating I can.
