- Pros: I have 2 of these together in crossfire-x and they run great.
- Cons: They get very hot under load, but more than likely a case issue. (Taking off the side of the case drops GPU temps by over 10c)
To WOW just Wow
- Pros: HD3870 GPU, Decnet GDDR memory
- Cons: Copper painted Heatsink fan not nearly as effective as either an unpainted aluminum or copper part. This is truly SHAME FULL by HIS and of course their terrible 1 year warranty. -----------------------------------------------------
WOW just Wow, i understand how frustrated U R, but U say U have all this experience w/ other cards, then how is it U don't know that the memory is DDR which means DOUBLE DATA RATE.... meaning 1200Mhz is effective 2400Mhz. Its NO DIFFERENT as the Sapphire HD3870 & 8800GTX, they also have cards GDDR3 / GDDR4 speeds around 1000mhz /2.0Ghz effective. The HD3870's GDDR4 goes a bit faster but both need to be doubled to get the effective rate that they post in the specs. 1200 x 2 = 2400mhz memory..... NO ISSUE THERE!
- Other Thoughts: U R correct in the HIS issues with the Painted heatsink not being nearly effective. This is a disgusting thing for HIS to do as in ALL pictures it looks like its true copper. They should have removed the paint & run straight AL it would have improved cooling. 832 Mhz is not too bad for these cards.
Without having my hands on your card its hard to know what the real issues are as the HD3870 does run very hot under load, but to get more from the Core clock you may need to use a BIOS editor & increase the VOLTAGE in 3D high Mode. Try reducing core clock speed!! Yes, they do say 850Mhz.... but if it won't do it...? & U don't raise voltage with a pencil mod or in a BIOS editor than you are stuck.
Regarding the 18Mhz missing on the Core clock....laughed out of court you will be. If you keep the card after warranty which you will have spent more time with them having your card...i'd remove the paint & turn the core clock down to 800mhz U'll solve your problems!!! Sorry.
WOW.....JUST WOW
- Pros: WHen working, I got almost 20,000 in #dmark06 with 2 in Crossfire
- Cons: These cards do not run at advertised speeds. When I boot these cards up and run them for either benchmarks or gaming applications and monitor and record their speeds, even under the most extreme load their core clocks never exceed 835 and their Memory Clocks never exceed 1200 mhz (1.2 Ghz). So, basically, they run at 1/2 of the advertised memory clock speed.
They are incredibly unstable cards. Even with fans engaged at 100%, they overheat very quickly. Random freezes, crashes, corruption, GPU failure, artifacting, etc. are common.
HIS HAS NO REPRESENTATIVES OR CONTACTS IN THE USA....ONLY IN CHINA. NO PHONE # FOR SUPPORT. YOU HAVE TO COMMUNICATE BY EMAIL WITH A THIRD PARTY INSURANCE COMPANY CALLED 'LEXY PACIFIC'....AND THEY ARE INCOMPETENT.
- Other Thoughts: Read my other 2 reviews. After RMAing 2 of these, being refused reimbursement of return shipping, I waited 7 weeks to get them back. When I got them back, basically same issues still present.
I have tested them against a Sapphire 3870x2 and an Nvidia 8800GTX. Both of those other cards run great with minimal to no issues.
Contacted HIS a second time. They refused to respond to 4 different emails. Finally got someone, who basically told me that they'd already RMAed 2 cards, and that they don't believe that I'm telling the truth and that they're not going to help me.
I am going through my product replacement program to replace these cards. I have also contacted an attorney and am escalating this to a legal issue. These cards have known issues, and, according to my attorney, this company is in violation of several federal laws. There is going to be a class action suit very soon, for all of us who have been totally shafted by this company.
