3 out of 5 eggsworked well until fan died

Pros: Worked very well until recently when the fan failed at 13 moths old.

Cons: Not as powerfull as the (expired) Sapphire ATI Radeon 3850 with 512MB of DDR3 RAM it replaced, but that one had a 256-bit bus. I had hoped that the HIS card's doubled RAM (1GB of DDR3) would have made up for its 128-bit bus, but no. The 3850 had a 53GB/sec memory trans. rate vs. the 4650's 22GB/sec rate.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
We are sorry for your situation and suggest you try to check following steps.
1. If possible verify the HIS graphics card on another working system or verify another working card on your motherboard. Need to ensure that the platform is no problem.
2. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our customer service department directly.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Unplanned Upgrade

Pros: Not too difficult.
Huge improvement
Connect to HDMI monitor with sound!

Cons: Conflicts with existing sound cards

Other Thoughts: Wow, where to begin. I first started off trying to upgrade my old Windows XP systems video card, which was running a Visiontek 2600 AGP Pro. I was hoping to get a little more out of this system, as I was not able to upgrade to Windows 7, as my sound card (Hercules Fortissimo III 7.1) is not supported.
So, I removed my old video card and inserted new card and powered up the old PC. The included CD-ROM was not readable, so I went to HIS web site and downloaded drivers. Lucky for me, I already had the updated AGP hotfix installed and only needed the AMD driver. After reboot, I had issue with PCI device. Looking in Device Manager, it seemed to be the HDaudio device. Try again and again to install. Thinking I had hardware conflict, I disabled my Hercules sound card to no avail.
Giving up, I thought I would try my Windows 7 upgrade CD and went with new install into new partition. Downloaded drivers for Vista/7 and tried it again. One reboot later, it was all good. With that unexpected good luck, I powered off the system and removed my old sound card and powered it back up. Now I have upgraded video and sound in Windows 7 x64.
For me it ended well. I suspect that Windows 7 x32 would have been better as my Foxconn 661GX7MJ-H is limited to 2GBs RAM (yep, just 2GBs RAM).
CPU is Intel Pentium D 3.4GHz (socket 775) .
Windows Experience Index is 4.9:
Processor: 4.9
Memory: 4.9
Graphics: 6.5
Gaming Graphics: 6.5
Primary hard disk 5.9

Very happy and highly recommend to anyone wishing to upgrade your 4x/8x AGP-based motherboard.

5 out of 5 eggsNot to sure

Pros: HDMI, Supports 1920 x 1200, Plays my old games well. Good for a system that is obsolete, but you don't want to part with. Easy to install. Quiet, and temps aren't bad at all.

Cons: Drivers are a pain in the behind I spent an hour just trying to figure out how the hell to get the drivers in, and the catalyst? I'm an Nvidia kind of guy, and getting this card made it clear why. If forgot that my Power Supply was not strong enough to provide adequate power, so I had to get one from the local outlet. (not really a con, just was annoyed that do of having to run around.

Games act funny, and I get these green artifacts when watching movies, or playing games i double checked this on my bros machine and he doesn't get it. and it sucks because I didn't get my rebate. I DID NOT GET THE REBATE I also didn't get any paperwork, and when i called the newegg customer support got no help. So I gave up, but I would still like my rebate.

Other Thoughts: Pentium 4 HT
2 GB Ram
Gigabyte I865GA
320GB Western Digital (Master)
160GB Seagate (Slave)

Not bad a bad set up for what I need this machine to do, but then again, I don't need to much at home. At work though I enjoy the Xeon's!!

I had to give it five stars, because even though the drivers gave me problems, and I didn't get my rebate, and the green objects at the bottom every now and then, it honestly is a good solid card, and plays my old games well, and it does everything I want it to do, and then some.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat board, cheap fan

Pros: Fantastic for older systems. Allows you to build a competent DVR/media center from yesterday's front-line servers and power desktops.

Cons: The fan. It lasted exactly 4 months and two days from new.

Im hoping to find an aftermarket replacement for that junk on-board fan, which is making so much noise now I can't run the system.

Other Thoughts: For a media player, HDCP-ready is a big deal, especially going Blu-Ray. You have to have an unbroken HDCP circuit from media to display device, be it a flat panel, projector, glasses, etc. This video board has that important feature. Video games are great on this card as well.

3 out of 5 eggsGood until fan died

Pros: Worked really good and brought my old Dell 8300 back to life.

Cons: My dad kept leaving the computer on, and the fan eventually died.

Other Thoughts: Great card if you aren't leaving the computer on a lot. Died after a solid 1+ year.

4 out of 5 eggsWorth it for old system!!!

Pros: If you have yet to come up with, and fork out the money for, a new system this is a great card. Very fast. Respectable frame rates in older games on high settings.(GRAW, Bf2, ect.) It is very cool running. Idles around 40c but has never got above 55c so far. Agp is dead technology but this card does a great job all things considered. Just don't expect to play the newest games. If you have an agp board you most likely don't have processor enough anyway.

Cons: The biggest con I have has nothing to do with the card but with drivers. The enclosed driver wouldnt allow the card to be recognized and neither would the latest Catalyst driver. Luckily the hotfix was releasedwhen i got the card so all is ok. CCC is a joke as it hasnt worked in my machine in months. My suggestion is to not install it and get ATI Tray tools for tweaking and monitoring. Strike an egg for that...

Other Thoughts: New Egg shipped my order very quickly as always. But it took a week to make a 200 mile trip because DHL must not have google earth. It was on a couple different trucks and facilities in New Jersey, then to Mass, New Hampsire and finaly Vermont.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Upgrade for AGP MoBo

Pros: 1MB of DDR3 Memory
Plays Dirt3 and BF2 on highest settings perfectly
AMD 4650 for relatively cheap
Pretty much the best upgrade for an AGP MoBo

Cons: Can' t think of any.

Other Thoughts: This card allowed me to salvage my old AGP PC (now connected to the TV) to play LAN games like D3 and BF2. Haven't tried BF3 but will soon. This was pretty much the best graphics card upgrade for an AGP I could find.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat card.

Pros: Replaced a Gigabyte HD 4650 card that got zapped. The gigabyte card was a replacement for a Matrox Parhelia 128. It's a great card. I got mine two days faster then what the delivery time said it would take.

Cons: I did and still have CCC problem. Nothing too bad. CCC crashes for no reason. This could be happening because of the server bios.

Other Thoughts: Buy it if you need to. Some people have problems, some don't.

5 out of 5 eggsSalvage an AGP

Pros: I wanted another HDMI media player. I had an older box sitting around but on closer inspection realized it had an AGP slot. I found this card. I popped it in and after a mere 2 restarts it was up and running on Ubuntu 11.04. Video is awesome. No shuddering on video playback at 1080p

Cons: Pricey?
