2 out of 5 eggsIf you value service, stay away from this company

Pros: Fast shipping from newegg, when the card works correctly, its screaming fast

Cons: I've had a ticket in with HIS since 4/1/10, with the grey bar/3d lockup issue that nearly every 5970 owner has had. First response took 15 days to hear back, then 5, then over a month. They have a bios fix for the card, but not a flasher for windows 7, yet they didnt give the bins so I could flash, so still im stuck w/o a very functional card.

Other Thoughts: HIS Tech's customer support, is simply the WORST I've ever EVER had the pleasure of dealing with. We're up to over 2 months now in the ticket system, and now they're saying RMA? Ya.. I guess they dont read or refuse to view the outside world as its a 5970 problem many, many are having, and the bios they have will fix it, yet I'm sure it will be another few weeks of waiting to get some other 1/2 baked response w/o a solution.

Would be nice if HIS responded to their tickets / RMA's as fast as they do to reviews on newegg, which I'm sure this will have a copy/paste response below it soon enough from HIS, which will do about as good as banging your head against a wall over and over. But hey on the bright side, 3 screens makes a mean excel spreadsheet, since its about all I can run on this card w/o 3d crashes.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsGreat if it doesn't fail...

Pros: Upon opening the box, it was a beautiful card. Performed well in every game I threw at it, and did very well...for a few months anyway. Please see Cons.

Cons: If you're thinking of being an early adopter like me, and wanting a 5970, beware that there aren't many around...which means that if it fails, you have to RMA it, and will have to wait forever to get it back. First of all, HIS deals with a third-party distributor called "Lexy-Corp Pacific", and once you send the card to them, they wait until HIS in Hong Kong sends them a replacement to send to you. Naturally, Lexy-Corp gives you no status whatsoever, and tells you "Expect 2-4 weeks to get your replacement". Its been more than four weeks, and all they can tell me in broken english is "It takes 2-4 weeks. Be patient".

But its BEEN more than 4 weeks, and all I get are representatives who can barely speak any english, telling me "2-4 weeks..2-4 weeks".

Other Thoughts: Avoid HIS if you can. Great card, but if it fails, you might as well just buy a new one from a more trusted source. I will personally never buy HIS again.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: When it works, it works great.

Cons: In the mail for RMA now. Also couldn't figure out what kind of HDMI cable goes with the mini displayport to HDMI. It's not like most HDMI cables, and unfortunately I learned this after buying the cable.

Other Thoughts: Just want to hook it up to the HDMI port in my TV when it returns in the mail. Need to know what kind of cable that is first, though.

3 out of 5 eggsAwesome performance, while it lasted

Pros: UNBELIEVEABLE! This is the first powerful gaming rig I've really ever built for myself and I went all out. Core i7 Extreme, 6gb high perfomance ram, Evga x58 motherboard, 256gb SSD and so on. The card ran great for two weeks... I had settings maxed out on everything. it came with a coupon for Dirt2 on Steam which I downloaded and was BEAUTIFUL

Cons: About two weeks in, everything seems great. I start getting rid of all the boxes, and I cut them up to mail in my rebate UPC's. Later that SAME day, I'm playng a game when I get hit with the dreaded grey screen I've heard so much about. I power down the machine and it's dead, no boot. Need to use an old card. With no packaging I cn't return to Newegg so I try to reach the manufacturer... don't even bother calling. I got my RMA number and sent them the card, and no I have to wait 2-4 weeks... if i get a working replacement in a timely manner I will be happy as can be.

Other Thoughts: I know cards go bad, and that it happens, but i am disappointyed that the turnaround time for RMA's is so long and that HIS does not have any way for me to track my RMA status... when you cough up $700 for a video card and then have to send it off to a place with little more than an email it can be a little nervewracking.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Video Card Ever Purchased

Pros: This card is incredible. It destroys Crysis with every setting maxed at 1980x1200. It runs Crysis at playable FPS on high / medium settings at 5760x1200...Yup...crysis playable across 3 screens. Eyefinity makes triple monitor spanning a breeze and is something that needs to be seen to be appreciated.
This card decimates everything I have thrown at it at resolutions up to 5760x1200.
This joker is as future proof as you can get.
Power consumption is incredible.
You get what you pay for.
If you are in the market

Cons: Grey screen problems and banding issues have been reported on these cards, although I have not seen this for myself. There was a hotfix released a couple days ago that addresses this.

Price is pretty steep...But again...You get what you pay for with this card.

Card is really long. You should have a full tower.

Good luck finding one.

Other Thoughts: This is the best video card purchase I have made yet. I didn't expect much of an increase over the 280's in sli it replaced...boy was I wrong. This card is awesome.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: The card is awesome and plays every game with high settings and good FPS. The problem is, it crashes the system when in 3D. this maybe due to bad drivers or hardware. I had it for one week now, if there's no fix. I am going to RMA it.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Most powerful card on the planet

Pros: Fast , Powerful and Fast. This card eats up games and spits them out without breaking a sweat. Crysis didnt stand a chance when i ran it with all eye candy turned up. The card is Insanely fast and I haven't overclocked it yet. Don't think i need to.

If you are in the market for a card , make the sacrifice and get this card....it'll run you 2 years and you got lots of headroom. I am planning to get another one in a couple of months and crossfire them.

Cons: Length. Its not a con for me as I have an Antec P193 case. Fits easily in my case with room to spare, but for most people , please do your measurements inside your case before getting this beast.

Other Thoughts: It'll be a long time before Nvidia gets something out that compete with this card. Forget Fermi folks, The raw manufacturing cost of each GF100 to Nvidia is more than double that of ATI's Cypress. And nvidia next problem with fermi is power. The demo cards at CES was pulling 280w. 280W power draw means it is almost impossible for Nvidia to put out a dual card with all units active.

2 out of 5 eggsCrash and burn

Pros: Ran great for a day, 21790 3dmark vantage GPU score

Cons: Constant crashing display driver stopped responding 2d and 3d.
Also no audio thru hdmi

Other Thoughts: May be poor windows 7 driver issue
Going to rma for a replacement hopefuly will solve but for now im back with my 4890.

Thank you for your purchase and your valuable feedback.

Please make sure you have clean-removed previous display driver before installing the 5970 driver. Besides, you can find a guideline on how to enable audio through HDMI in HIS FAQ section. Here's a shortcut for your reference:

5 out of 5 eggsThe T7400 DipShhhhhshh

Pros: I put low understanding for the knuckle head who made the T7400 comment. The Precision may seemingly have the PCIE slots, but length wise the 5970 will NEVER fit. I measured, jsut isnt going to go, unless one starts gutting some of the harnesses and plastic braces they put in them darn things.

Also Sherlock, were will folks get the drivers to set that Quad fire up? Out of their back side bong hole?

Find another day job, you're a hack.

Cons: Dare I say?

1 out of 5 eggsTry To Get HIS To Honor Thier Warranty

Pros: The card worked ok; while it worked. It started putting horizontal lines in the display, before it was two months old. Called HIS about getting it warrantied; they will not answer the phone. Just a recording, & leave a message. Have left several messages; they have not returned the call, in two weeks. Have sent several emails; no reply.
