4 out of 5 eggsHIS 5850

Pros: -Card runs cool
-Card is quiet under 50% fan

Cons: -Bad Overclocker
-On stock voltage I could only get 780/1200
-Over 50% fan you can hear this thing. At 100% it's a jet engine.

Other Thoughts: MSI Afterburner does not work with this card. Luckily, after some research, I found Sapphire Trixx. This program is able to increase the voltage of the card. At 1.16v I was able to get 850/1200 stable with the fan running 50% and temp maxing at 63c. That's same core/memory as a 5870.

5 out of 5 eggsCaptain Falcon says: YESZ

Pros: It works. Runs cool on my fan curve, which is pretty dang quiet. Powerful.

Cons: Normal ATI Drivers on auto = 55% fan speed all the time = "Loud", I'm going to

Other Thoughts: MSI Afterburner solves any loud fan problems you got.

Install ATI Catalyst Drivers as you normally ought to.
Install MSI Afterburner Utility on top of that.

Set your fan curve and tada.
25% up to 42 degrees, and up it goes later, maxing at 50 for up to like 65 degrees.

1 out of 5 eggsCard went bad

Pros: Well designed, stays cool, but I think the RAM went bad at some point causing massive artifacting on games (e.g. CSS, SC - Conviction).

Cons: Had minor artifacting problems on games from the beginning but I always assumed it was Win7 compatibility or driver problems that would eventually work itself out through updates...etc. Now, after 6 months of ownership, the card has become progressively worse to the point you can't even recognize what's on the screen when playing Counterstrike Source.

Other Thoughts: Too late for any RMAing, so now I have to get a new card. This particular card was a waste of money. I won't buy HIS anymore.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: Great card, no problems, low failure rate based on reviews. Runs everything I want it to at decent framerates. Runs cool, never gets over 60C.

Cons: Fan is loud, I suppose that's just what you get with a high end card like this, and that's what gives you the 60C under load, but I've heard of much quieter cards.

Other Thoughts: Long, make sure it'll fit in your case

Will run Metro2033, very high, dx10 at 1280x1024 between 100-40fps, good enough for me and my tiny monitor.

2 out of 5 eggsNonexistent Customer Support

Pros: Excellent card, especially for the money (at least at the time I bought it in June 2010)... when it is running properly.

Cons: I have been having frequent video playback issues. When I am watching videos on VLC or WMP, my screen will eventually become distorted and ultimately crash. I have researched this problem and most solutions say to disable "Accelerated Video Output (overlay)", which does not solve the problem. Everything on my PC is constantly updated. My second PC has the same card (not HIS though) with absolutely no problems whatsoever. After two months of owning the card and still having problems I emailed HIS customer support with my problem. After one month of no answer I emailed them again. Now six months later, still no answer. That's poor customer service. I even threatened to start the warranty replacement procedure. Nothing. Thanks HIS. Now you will just have to give me a brand new card because you are too lazy and/or incompetent to reply to an email.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card

Pros: Quiet fan
Easy install

Cons: This card is long but not worth docking an egg.

Other Thoughts: Make sure your case has enough space. The one card took up 2 expansion slots, and if I ever do a x-fire it will take up all of my slots.
Thankfully I won't need them but that kind of irks me.
I went from a 3650 to this and boy is there a huge difference. WoW is a whole different game to me. Set everything to Ultra and I am getting 60fps. So far so good

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Card

Pros: Powerful, Quiet, and Cool.

This card will run any current game or application with ease, even at higher resolutions like 1080p, and there is enough head room to spare, even at stock speeds. It's slick design houses an excellent heatsink and a fairly quiet fan, and doesn't consume alot of power, which equates to low temperatures, even under heavy load in comparison to most other cards (with proper case ventilation being a bonus to those numbers, I imagine it would run hot with poor case ventilation since some of the heat is dispersed out the back of the card). It is capable of being overclocked nearly 25% higher than stock speeds, up to and beyond the Turbo edition, using software or even flashing the GPU Bios (but at your own risk, of course) The construction seems sturdy on the heatsink and board. Also, the black and blue color scheme went well with my case.

Cons: None so far...

Other Thoughts: Benefits of opting for the (+$25) Turbo edition include: a copy of Modern Warfare 2, slightly higher bios clocks, and MW2 sticker on the GPU. If these aren't of great importance to you, and you are savvy with overclocking (if even necessary), i would highly recommend this card to you. If you are planning on getting MW2, definitely go with the Turbo edition. I found this to be the best 5850 on the market (and seems to be a favorite of professional reviews, ala Guru3D) so if you are looking for a upper-mid to lower-high range card, this price and quality can't be beat.
