5 out of 5 eggs"Explative" a.k.a. awesome card so far

Pros: It's an HD5970. It's a reference design but then again they all are. Still the fastest card on the market. I also have 2 of them in Xfire. Epic framerates. "Free" MW2. Runs at about 73C loaded.

Cons: None thus far, although the bad reviews with HIS support made me hesitant on my purchase. I haven't had to use them thus far.

Other Thoughts: Seriously 2x HD5970 are overkill, but I'm an FPS wh0re. I'm CPU limited at this point but I'm an AMD fanboy and I'm hoping they'll perfect their hexacore processor so I can upgrade from my 965 C3. Since the 5970 is coming down dramatically in price I'd recommend picking up one while you still can. @ $700 for an HD5970 when brand new I'd hate to see what the HD6000 series dual core card goes for...

2 out of 5 eggsDisgruntled

Pros: Well, two of the ports work great. works great for ArmA 2, pretty much on par with the dual 5870s I traded in for this one card. The only other pro I can think of is HIS got the RMA card back to me in 3 days, and I live in Korea, so...not too bad I guess.

Cons: Well, I'm on my 2nd card right now. I had to RMA the first one due to a bad DVI port, they sent me a new unit, and it looks like I'll have to RMA this card for the same problem. Seriously, two in a row? Yes...

Other Thoughts: Been trying to set up Eyefinity with 3x 27" Microboard monitors (2xDVI, one native DP) , which worked great with my ASUS HD 5870s in crossfire. Even in single monitor, the mobo side DVI port refuses to work. If it doesn't matter to you, go for this card, it's pretty nice, but if you plan on running more than one monitor, forget about it.

3 out of 5 eggsOk coming from 2x 4870's

Pros: Quiet and Cooler than my 2 crossfire HIS 4870 Iceq4+'s
Eyfinity is nice though the card doesn't have enough power to Drive 3 monitors at 5750x1080 in crysis over 20fps out right out of the box. I'll have to play around a bit and see what it's like when my second card arrives.

Cons: I really didn't think that one 5970 would get lower fps than my 2 4870's. that's disapointing considering I paid $150 for each of those cards.
I also had to cut some of the drive tray just to fit this monster in my mid tower.
And Spring for a 1000watt psu when 600 was plenty for my 4870's.

Other Thoughts: I'm stuck now since I got rid of my 4870's I'm hopeing that a second 5970 that I ordered will put my system back where I want it to be.
Also having to buy a $90 active dual link adapter just to get the third monitor up blows. For the $599 this should be included.
Final though would be that if you have anything above a 4000 2x don't even bother with this upgrade unless you have money to throw away.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's an awesome card.

Pros: As far as video cards go, this is the fastest one I have ever had. It absolutely kills every game I try on it. I overclocked it once, but I don't think it really even needs it.

Cons: The first time I tried to play a 3D game, I got the blue screen of death which forced my computer to reboot. After that one time, it has never happened again. Everything has loaded and run smoothly. The only other freeze-up I had was with MW2 when I was fooling around with the overclocking and didn't enable manual fan control. Another downside to this card is the price, although it feels a little better when you get a free game like MW2 with it. In all, I think it was well worth it.

Other Thoughts: I highly recommend that you enable manual fan control and at least put it up to 40-50% if you plan on overclocking. The automatic fan settings just don't seem to cut it. My auto fan temps are around 50C idle to 60~70C at load. Setting the fan to manual at 50% gives me temps around 38C idle 55~60C at load. I can barely hear the fan over my Antec Nine Hundred II's fans anyway. I've heard some horror stories about people breaking their DVI ports with the after-market triple fan from Arctic Cooling by tightening the screws too much, so I think I'll hold off on that for now. I'm not sure about the dimensions of that sucker either, considering how big this card is anyway.

1 out of 5 eggsBUYER BEWARE This card is a huge nightmare.

Pros: Runs at a cool 60 C idle and not temps not to high under load at 75 C and system is completely stable.

Cons: It is only functioning as a single gpu card, so effectively what I got was a super expensive 5850. I'm using Catalyst 10.9, and I've tried reinstalling. I've tried various tests such as msi kombustor, afterburner, gpuz.

One of the GPUs seems to be disabled and windows reports an error in device manager. I can disable and re-enable it to show up normally, but even then, the other GPU is never used. I can be at 99% load with one gpu and the other one is always at 0% load and nothing I can do will remedy this ><

Other Thoughts: I just spent all this cash on a side-grade to my old Radeon 4870 ><

5 out of 5 eggsSet the record straight

Pros: I purchased this in November '09. My HIS has been running flawlessly 24/7at stock, OC and overvolt OC up to 900/1225 on air. No 2D crashes since 10.3, or when making mods to profiles upping volts and clocks). I run 10.4 because 10.7 (and 10.6..etc) jump the standby and 2D clocks to 400/1000 from 157/300 and generally caused a few more problems in games for my rig. Most issues with crashing are the "cold bug" or failure to COMPLETELY uninstall all video drivers (sweep). Temps reach 80c and the card seems to like that better than 45c! Gaming in the high 70s seems to be a sweet spot.

Cons: Only con I can point out is power draw. I had crashes/driver failures using the 8 and 6 PCIE lines (150A + 75A). Once I went to using 2 150A sources (8 + 8 to 6) from the UltraX3 1600W all problems stopped, and OV/OC was a breeze. and total system draw is only 600! (4x500G raid 10, with spare, 1TB WD Blk, 1x256G SSD, 3 cd/dvd/bd, physx, oc QX9650, sata card, 8 fans, etc...)

Other Thoughts: Thankfully I have not had to use HIS service... seems this is a real problem for this reseller.

Not a good way to keep customers coming back (and the high-end buyers/users that would buy this video card are the ones you want to keep!). WHAT'S THE STORY HIS?

1 out of 5 eggsHangs & Resets Display Driver

Pros: If it continues to run, it does it's job well.

Cons: Due to ATI's PowerPlay power-saving functionality, the graphics card will occasionally reset or hang the entire PC. The only way to recover, if it hangs, is to force a power-down (NOT GOOD!). This only happens during 2D display processing never during 3D gaming.

Other Thoughts: To do it over again, I would never have bought a HD 5970 if I had known it has these issues. I have tried to contact HIS through their support center which has a ticket submitting process that is utterly ridiculous. Until ATI fixes this, I would stay away.

1 out of 5 eggswhat a piece

Pros: man did it have great frame rates

newegg is great to work with

Cons: those great frame rates stopped after 2 min of playing ANY GAME!!! then only way to do anything with my computer was to do a hard power down cause it locked up everything.

HIS has no tech support to speak of

Other Thoughts: went to there website to give them a bad review but they didnt post it....in fact the only review there is of some guy saying he wants one...now if that just doesent say something i dont know what else to tell you
