4 out of 5 eggsGood Mid-Range card

Pros: I bought this card to build my first gaming rig. I studied computer networking through college and always dealt with computers from a business standpoint, never for gaming. I always used consoles to game, what a shame :( Anyhow, I have had this card for some time now and have to say, for the money, the card performs exceptionally well. It run's cool and looks cool at the same time. I ran wow at almost full setting's 8X AA etc. with about 40fps. I am now playing SW:TOR and can put the settings on high and get about 40fps. I am looking to find another one to upgrade to Xfire before moving on to another card.

Cons: At this point the only con is the fact that the card is a bit outdated. It is DX10 and most games are running DX11 by now. I can't take away from the card for this because in its time it was top notch.

Other Thoughts: For the price, this was a great pickup. I am hopeful that in Xfire I can run SW:TOR on Max settings and achieve 60fps.

I gave it 4 stars only because I don't feel that this card performed as well as some of the other card's in the price range, albeit a great card. It was still a great pickup for 150.

5 out of 5 eggsSWEET!

Pros: This card performs exceptionally well, especially considering the price range.

HIS has nailed the cooling solution on this card. Many ppl with different editions of the 4870 complain about heat, not with this baby. I set up my custom fan profile in "aftermarket program" and this card is idling at 49 C and at full load it never even hits 60 C. all this coolness and the fan never goes above 50%. Plus it vents the air outta my case... Superb

The card is also relatively quiet for my rig. I have an antec 300 with 5 case fans as well as 2 120mm on my cpu HS. The card is barely audible over my case fans, even at nearly 50% fan speed.

I have maxed out Fallout 3, Starcraft 2, and Mass Effect 2 all smooth as silk. Both Fallout and SC auto set all video settings to ultra.

Cons: The factory settings for the fan were a bit underpowered for my taste. At factory settings the temps were much higher than those mentioned above. However, this is easily fixed in CCC by manually setting fan speed to an acceptable level.

Or you can set up a custom fan profile using several different aftermarket programs.

Other Thoughts: System Specs:
HIS HD 4870 1gb ICEQ4+ @ 790/1000
AMD Phenom ii 955 C3 oc'd to 3.7 at stock voltage(light OC)
CM hyper 212+ with 2 120 mm fans
Gigabyte 880ga-ud3h AM3 SATA 3, USB 3 MOBO
4 gb ADATA ddr3 1600
Samsung F3 1tb
Antec earthwatts 650W
ASUS 24x cd/dvd burner
Win7 64bit ULTIMATE

All from Newegg!!!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

Pros: Plays every game I throw at it. Even Crysis at high settings! Fan at 70% (not really that loud) and runs at 68C while crunching BONIC 24/7 at an average of 98% load. This is a very low temp for this card. Have read that the 4870 can run as high as 80C under load. Super happy with the thermals of this card.

Cons: That I paid $50 more when I bought it. :-(

Other Thoughts: This card is right up there with many 5000x cards from ati for more money. If you dont want to pay $300+ for a card, then this is for you.
