5 out of 5 eggsAbout to be retired in a still 100% working state.

Pros: -Very quick (even up to 2015 standards)
-Reference card, can be flashed to 6970 specs
-Durable, has lasted me 5 years so far already
-Versatile, I've had it working in several computers

Cons: -Reference fan is not the best
-Power hungry
-Slightly larger than average physically.

Other Thoughts: This is hands down, one of the best purchases that I have ever made. I bought it when this was still the top of the line AMD card for sale. Over the years, I have seen it be overtaken by several cards, 7xxx series Radeon, 7xx series Nvidia, Then the R9 series. Friend after friend of mine upgraded to the new series of cards from the current.

But I stuck with this card because it still ran everything absolutely amazing. Even if it wasnt always on the highest setting it still ran smoothly.

I wrote this review in the wake of this card's replacement as a testament to its prowess. Most people gave the AMD cards of this generation a bad rap for reliability and a tendency to be unreliable. This is not the case with this card, as this card has really been put through quite a bit, with me still using it every day of the week.

It has been:
-Flashed to 6970 specs
-Overclocked in 6970 specs
-Overclocked waaay over its specs
-Overheated on a stock cooler
-Overheated on an aftermarket cooler
-Has run alongside 4 different processor/motherboard setups
-Accomplished triple monitor gaming
-Has run 3 monitors every day for the past year
-Been repeatedly stress tested
-Been repeatedly stress tested on overclock specs

And even today, I launched GTAV and played for a good 5 hours smoothly without any issues at 1080p.

Even though it is being replaced by a higher performing card (770) this card will still be used in other rigs, for almost the same purpose.

Thank you old friend, for being there to power me through the races, raids, kills, dragonborns, nuclear fallouts, WWII air and naval battles, assassinations, and full scale total wars. Thank you for allowing me to explore the vast worlds of Liberty City, San Andreas, Vice City, Skyrim, Morrowind, and New Vegas among others.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Graphics Card!

Pros: I've owned this graphics card for almost five years now, since I built my tower back in 2010. Honestly, I can say that this graphics card is not a disappointment. Out of the five(ish) years of ownership, I have no complaints. It runs smoothly, doesn't ever glitch out on me or cause any blue screen crashes.
If you can still find it, it's worth the buy. Guaranteed.

Cons: The fan can get a little loud at times, but I need a better cooling system in my build.

5 out of 5 eggsBeautiful card

Pros: Anything I throw at it can run reasonably well, usually over 60fps. I have no problem using lower AA with 1080p resolutions.
Looks sharper that way actually. Every driver update had offered general speed increases. Works with Windows 7 flawlessly.

Cons: It's huge, but, i bought a huge case to hold it.

Other Thoughts: Fantastic cards, if you had one, easy to resell.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Honestly, a great card overall. I have been running it for over a year now and it still eats anything I throw at it. All on high settings by default. Personally, I would hunt down and buy another just for CrossFire if I could.

Cons: None at all

Other Thoughts: Fan is a bit loud if it is set @ 40% or higher. But for what I use it for, totally worth it.

4 out of 5 eggsMy experience so far

Pros: Runs games FAST, Battlefield 3 on ultra with no AA=50 fps.
(see other thoughts)

Cons: BIOS can no longer be flashed, which is why this card looses an egg.

Other Thoughts: A different brand 6950 reference that I own is no longer up on Newegg so im just going to fulfill my obligation and review here. I recently purchased my reference-design 6950 and all attempts at flashing the BIOS have been unsuccessful because AMD now has the BIOS laser etched into the card. However, this is still a good card and offers excellent overclocking potential. For now I have it a stable, AMD supported overclock and the card hasn't had a hiccup. Fan is loud but it cools the card immensely. Would I buy this card again for the current price? probably not, but it's still a good product nonetheless.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Product

Pros: Quiet, and does the job when working

Cons: I had to RMA it within weeks of getting it, now 6 months later i'm having to RMA it once again for another issue. this will be my 3rd try with this card. (RMA takes months with HIS)

huge card

Other Thoughts: Avoid HIS

1 out of 5 eggsHIS 6950

Pros: good solid card, reference ATI design.

Cons: HIS denied my rebate for the card, despite my sending in complete documentation and having it all in order. Not much in the box with the card, no dvi-hdmi adapter, no other freebies etc. think it had a dvi-vga adapter.

Other Thoughts: I'd avoid HIS products if you actually expect a rebate back from them, claimed I didn't send in full documentation, scans of the documentation online show page 2 of the invoice when I sent both pages, nice excuse just to not give me 20 dollars.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear HIS Customer,

Please note that rebate terms and conditions vary from different retailers as well as regions, therefore HIS do not handle it directly.

For more information, please contact Lexy customer service directly: 800-286-9146
or by E-mail at

More information is also available @

Thank you for your supports to HIS.

Warm Regards,
HIS Marketing

5 out of 5 eggsGreat 6950 card

Pros: Great card, reference design, dual bios, unlocks*

Cons: *Very difficult to unlock, but I managed taking a different approach. Not as easy as the other three cards I have done (different brand).

Other Thoughts: Overall, a bit more expensive than other brands but its expected as these reference cards are becoming more and more scarce. Card runs very nice since its on a water block. Unlocking these cards can be easy or a bit challenging, but resources are available for help on the internet.

I might pick up one more for quad x-fire since I game on three monitors in portrait mode and even three cannot max out Metro.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat!

Pros: I have 2 of these in crossfire. No hiccups. Run all my games fine at highest settings at 1920 x 1080 = WoW, SC II, Crysis 2, Age of Conan.

With HWMonitor I noticed that the top GPU never gets above 150 degrees F even with the fan blocked off by the bottom GPU pretty heavily due to my Micro ATX case.
Never dropped below 60fps on DX 11 benchmark.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: Rosewill Destroyer Case with all fan slots used.
MSI 890gx Micro ATX
Phenom ii x6 1090t 3.2Ghz (stock)
16GB GSkill Ripjaws DDR3 1333 @ stock
60GB Mushkin SSD

1 out of 5 eggsCheck support options before buying

Pros: Works as expected when working

Cons: Terrible support

Other Thoughts: Would be 5 stars if the card actually worked. Intermittent desktop corruption. The main issue is support. HIS says 2 to 4 weeks waiting for a new card.. A company with good support would take your credit card and ship you a new card immediately or as soon as the received the old card back.

Take a gamble, buy an HIS. If it works great. If not, kiss your system goodbye as you wait for them to get you a replacement. Spend an extra $30 with a manufacturer who won't leave you hanging for up to a month with an unusable system.
