1 out of 5 eggsHIS 6790 fan died after 2 weeks

Pros: Good card but the cooling fan is junk!
2 weeks after I purchased this card the fan started to make noise.
It got to the point where I had to turn the fan to get it to spin.
Anyhow contacted HIS about warranty. They said if I paid shipping to them and back they would replace fan. Not the card just the fan.
Shipping cost alone was the cost of the card.
And then a buddy said to try Artic cool twin Accelerol fan.
So I did and got over a year out of it.
As for HIS products.....I would never waste time or money on any of there products!

Cons: Junk sleeve bearing fans!

Other Thoughts: Never purchase HIS VCards.
After finding a forum with people complaining about the same fan trouble.
And the fan trouble was over a range of their mid to high end cards.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
We are sorry for your situation. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our customer service department directly.

Best Regards

5 out of 5 eggsHIS Radeon HD 6790

Pros: I replaced an HD 4350 GPU that was stock in a 3 yo HP PC with this HIS IceQ card and was surprised at the huge improvement in color & overall picture quality ... I am also a mid-level gamer and the button response, graphics and movement in WoW and Skyrim was much better ... for the money, this is a very good mid-level GPU card from AMD

Cons: Absolutely none ... easy to install, great mid-range card ... and that Ice Blue color is Da Bomb ... LOL

1 out of 5 eggsGreat Board, avoid DIRT

Pros: This is a great working board

Cons: The "free" DIRT program that comes with this does not work and will cost you $49.999 if you want to return the board becasue it is not refundable.

Other Thoughts: Avoid any thing with a "free" extra. You will be charged for it if you want to return the item.

1 out of 5 eggsGot ripped off

Pros: Plays my games just fine.

Cons: I was on the fence with this card but the free copy of Dirt3 sold me. Too bad they gave me an EXPIRED coupon code. Make it right manufacturer and I'll reconsider my 1 egg review. $50 value down the drain.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear HIS Customer,

Thank you for your support in HIS.
The expiry date printed on the game coupon is Dec 31, 2011.
However the promotion is extended to Dec 31, 2012. And the code is still valid.

2 out of 5 eggsStay away!

Pros: Good card, when it works.
Free Dirt 3!

Cons: Card stopped working after about 15 minutes. Installed new version of windows, new drivers, 550watt psu. The card would randomly go to a blue screen with white vertical lines (no this is not the BSOD) I put the 6790 in my other gaming pc, and it still didnt work. Swapped out the 6790 for a 6870 just to see if it was the card, and the 6870 works perfectly. I got a faulty card!!!

Other Thoughts: I wish HIS customer service wasn't so terrible!

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: Very nice performing and nice looking card. Only $150 or less. Plays all my games great on one monitor with maxed eye candy. No issues ever with operating my machine on this card.

Cons: Played BF3 on EyeFinity for the first time a couple of days ago. Very very laggy while running all 3 monitors at 1920x1080. It is a 128bit card which is dated by today's standards. I cut down the graphics settings in game to Medium and changed the resolution to 3 x 1600 x 900. That improved the performance, but its still a bit choppy.

Other Thoughts: Great card if you're not using EyeFinity with high graphics settings. I noticed an immediate strain on it the second it got into a game with all three monitors running. I will likely replace this card with a 7950 or 7970 (3GB 384bit GDDR5). Great card for the price though!

5 out of 5 eggsGREAT CARD!!

Pros: Everything about this card is great. I don't play many games but I do have StarCraft II and Battlefield 3 set to the highest settings. It plays them effortlessly. My setup is MSI FXA-GD65 mobo, Phenom II X6 @ 3.2GHz; 8GB (4x2GB) Corsair XMS3 1333, and this card. Again ZERO PROBLEMS. Love this card.

Cons: It's still about the same price as it was when I bought it over 6 months ago. Also Mini DisplayPort is sometimes harder to find adapters for. The only thing that drives me nuts is when you install an AMD GPU you have to go into Catalyst and slide the scaling setting from 15% underscan to 0% for a full screen. Who knows.....

Other Thoughts: For an EyeFinity setup, it seems like a win. I actually got on NewEgg tonight to order my 2nd & 3rd monitors as well as my active Mini DP dongle and decided to write this review. I have had only a great experience so far with mine. Remember to get your ACTIVE Mini DisplayPort dongle when you go EyeFinity. Check AMD's website for supported models. I would recommend it to anyone. Next time, I'm buying another HIS card because everything about this one is awesome. Also AMD craps on nVidia. That is all.

5 out of 5 eggs3 Months running strong!

Pros: *Cost, this is a GDDR5 256bit GPU for under 150$

*Stays cool and quiet, fan gets loud when maxed out but you never really need to max it out... leave my fan @ 60% and GPU runs in the high 50's C on full load... can crank fan up to bring temps closer to 40's if I want. Idles @ around 45C

*7.6 WEI (7.7 w/OC)

*Overclocked edition, factory OC giving it an edge over other 6790s and you can push it even further! run mine @ 960mhz GPU 1175mhz memory. Blazing fast memory!

*Very stylish look matches the internal color scheme of my system.

*Supports 4 monitors independently or in eyefinity

*Runs all games maxed out 1080p with 4xAA 60fps crysis, dirt3, batman arkham, eve online 3 clients 3 screens 50-60fps depending on active client, dues ex HR & ML etc etc.

*easy installation, as per the suggestion of other reviewers I went straight to AMD for the drivers didn't touch the CD, no issues whatsoever with the drivers
see cons/other thoughts

Cons: *Power hog!!! This thing blew out a "crossfire certified" 650watt PSU, however in defense of this GPU the PSU was a coolmax. Replaced it with a 950w 80+bronze certified Antec PSU and all is well.

*Wish it had an S-video port, Mini Display port to S-video converters are expensive and cut off part of the image for an SD TV. And no option to adjust image size on digital in AMD engine CC (not worthy of knocking off an egg)

*Wish it had more cores/stream processors, has the least amount of stream processors for a 256 bit gddr5 but you get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: I left in one of my EVGA 9600 GSO nvida cards for its S-video port. Win7x64 has no issues running ATI and Nvidia together. The GDDR5 is the primary display adapter in the x16 slot so it does all the rendering. I can play games on an SD TV connected to the GDDR2 nvidia card but all being driven by the ATI card, no lag no bottleneck.
Looking forward to seeing this in a crossfire setup with a twin 6790...once I get an HDTV for this room. Until then this 23'' 1080p monitor will have to do.

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy HIS Cards

Pros: It looks nice? Would be fast.

Cons: Card crashed within 5 minutes of loading windows every time regardless of driver. Called HIS Support, they didnt even troubleshoot ever the phone just said send it in. I mail the card and told to wait 30 days. Customer Service is horrible, no one answers the phone or returns emails timely. I finally got an answer that they sent my card to Hong Kong and I will get one back eventually. I still don't have a card. I bought this card for $250, it never worked properly and now its down to $150 and I might get a refurbished card someday....

Other Thoughts: I am never buying HIS again. I bought my computer build 4 months ago. I had to send my mobo in to get it updated to read my processor. So buy the time that was done I couldnt send my video card to newegg and had to send it to the manufacturer. HIS by far has the worst customer service ever. It feels like they just want your money and don't care what you got in return. Horrible experience, I am hoping newegg or HIS finally makes it right besides me getting my video card back working.
