3 out of 5 eggsFun while it lasts

Pros: Well it did it's job for a little while. I never had to manually override the fan settings for the first year.

I was able to run everything on extreme settings and still push 75-100FPS on all my online FPS games. This also includes games like Diablo 3 and a couple simulator type games.

Temp was great, never pushed 55C during that first year.

Cons: After a year of owning this I started getting problems. The graphics card would shut down and give me some looping sounds. This happened on 5 different desktop builds (tried them on my other PC and a few of my friends) and it all did the same thing. Fan kicks in high and display shuts down, PC is still on and lights still going though.

If you buy this card, get the extended warranty and do not over clock the fan speeds or try and re-do the thermal as those void the warranty. This card was not designed to last.

After finding out the standard warranty is only for a year and they trick ya by asking if you tried overclocking the fan speeds to keep it cooler, BAM! "I'm sorry sir but that voided your warranty. We will not be able to help out."

From that point on I have had to under-clock my GPU in order to get it to sustain and not shut down like I had mentioned. MSI After Burner is what I had to use to turn down ALL specs and crank the fan speed up just to keep it going.

I can no longer work with extreme settings it all has to be normal otherwise the GPU overheats going up to 70C.

worst investment on my PC yet. I should have went with something different like a GTX. Something that was build to last and not built to make you upgrade every year or two.

** Please note, as you may have noticed some of the comments the manufactures leave. They never take ownership over their faulty product. I almost bet anything that I get a response just like the others "Try it on another working system, let us know if you need more help." WOW, Please stop telling your consumers they are dumb!

Other Thoughts: If you buy this get the extended warranty and NEVER admit to changing fan speed settings higher to keep it cooler. Any type of overclocking voids the warranty.

Personally go spend $100 less on another product that is designed to last longer. Go and research reviews for this product and you will see a lot of people having the same life span. Thank goodness Newegg is out of stock on this though! :) Perhaps they stopped manufacturing this product for a reason?

3 out of 5 eggsWorked Well...When It Worked

Pros: Stays really cool and quiet, especially while under heavy load, which is supposed to be the hallmark of HIS's "IceQ" brand.

Cons: I bought this in January 2012, and by the middle of 2014 it was starting to inflict my PC with heavy audio/video crashes (meaning since my HDMI cable was hooked directly into the monitor as both a visual and aural source, I could narrow the culprit of random gray-screen freezes accompanied by a loud, repetitive buzzing noise down to the HIS card itself.)

Conveniently, the warranty period for this particular card is 2 years, which is only a few months before I started to experience these crashes on a frequent basis when running any sort of high-intensity program (from AAA games on high settings to benchmark tools, and even shuffling back and forth from Steam's transparent overlay to an alt-tabbed desktop too often while in-game.)

This is not at all what I was hoping to expect from a card that cost as much as it did.

Other Thoughts: HIS seems like a company that knows how to market higher-tier products in today's hyper-competitive workplace, but it's one thing to promise a certain level of quality, and completely another to hold yourself TO that promise.

My next purchase will probably be from ASUS, seeing as their headquarters is right down the road (in comparison to the foreign, never-manned "hotline" HIS operated as their sole avenue of American customer service back when I bought this card.)

As for WHY I bought this card if its manufacturer was such an unknown entity back then? Well, consider this whole experience my punishment for going out of the way to give a newcomer a shot haha, ouch

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
We are sorry for your situation and suggest you try to check following steps.
1. If possible verify the HIS graphics card on another working system or verify another working card on your motherboard. Need to ensure that the platform is no problem.
2. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our customer service department directly.

Best Regards
HIS Customer Service (

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Worked great..for awhile

Cons: After two years of ownership w/ 0 issues it now will no longer play any games. My computer crashes and the VGA LED light on my mobo blinks after it crashes and tries to restart. 750W PS. I can watch shows, browse the web..but i attempt to play any game and it crashes within minutes. This is the first GPU that has crapped out on me this fast. I probably won't buy HIS again.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card

Pros: I bought this card off craigslist locally for 200$, great deal. The original owner said he had this card for a little less than a year, got rid of it because he wanted something that was more compatible with his "hackintosh build" what a noob.
dust kicker runs on startup.

Cons: uses a buttload of power compared to cards of similair performance from the current generation.

Other Thoughts: this cards big, watch out.
i put it in my BitPhoenix Prodigy MicroITX case.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat card with the right drivers.

Pros: This card is an amazing card now that I have installed the most recent driver update from amd 12.8. Using all high quality settings and is capable of being overclocked beyond factory default which is already preclocked higher than a normal HD 6970. Currently running 50-80 FPS with 8X EQ AA. The cooling system on this bad boy keeps my card around 50c-60c when under load. 5 stars if it wasn't for the extremely long wait to get the correct drivers allowing complete utilization of the 6970. Great price for what it actually is and I'm very happy now that I can run the card optimally.

Cons: Until recently this was actually the low point of my new build because the drivers that were currently released from amd were defect with this card. The colors were off, some of the graphics options were inaccessible(what!?), and the scaling ratio to your monitor was always incorrect. I was running a backdated driver (12.2) till 12.8 came out in which I had to recalibrate the colors on my HD display several times to get perfect. Being an HD card it has built in color corrections and features which were not displaying accurately until this latest driver. Was an extreme headache. Not really the card's fault as much as it was AMD. 4 stars because of the garbage drivers till recently making me wait months to see the full potential of the card.

Other Thoughts: You might think that the drivers are not really related to the card but they do have a direct correlation. Without the proper driver you may not even see half of this card's or any AMD card's true potential so just be aware of what you may be getting yourself into when buying AMD. Next card will most likely be Nvidia. Contemplated changing this card for the GTX 580/590 Turbo several times but stuck with the card and now with the 12.8 drivers it is 150% better and well worth the $360 I spent. AMD seems to have many problems with their drivers whether or not it's a new or older card.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic card for years to come

Pros: This card is fantastic, i decided on this one because of a sale newegg had and the spec's were more than impressive compared to other competitiors. It's been close to 4 months now since the install on my new build. Runs BF3 on average 40 FPS maxed settings, 1920x1080 resolution. Tera runs on average of 80 FPS with max settings. Cooling is fantastic on this card. I plan on X-Firing this card very soon. Need to make some upgrades first

Cons: Not really a con just something to be aware of, this card is large. Check your case size and mobo if you plan on a X-Fire with 2 of these. I will have close to a .25 inch gap between these cards.

5 out of 5 eggsStable and Cool running

Pros: Ran great out of the box. Easily OC's and running stable at 980/1485 on 1.28 volts. With fan speed set at 75%, you can barely hear it.

Hit 6510 on3D Mark 11. Heat was no issue, as the temp only topped out at 68. Idles in the mid to uppers 30's.

Plays any game I have, without a hitch..

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Will be buying another to X-Fire, when I move up to three monitors.
