The HIS 7970 IceQ X² GHz Edition graphics card is one of a kind. AMD and HIS’s advanced technologies work in concert to provide unrivalled graphics performance and peace of mind stability. AMD Radeon HD 7970GHz Edition GPU is the world’s fastest and most versatile GPU with advanced technologies such as boost clock, GCN architecture, App Acceleration, next generation Eyefinity technology, and more. HIS’s advanced technologies include iPower for more voltage for more overclocking, IceQ X² for cooler & quieter gaming, iTurbo for intuitive card tuning, and a long lasting design for extreme stability.

  • newegg iPower: More Voltage, More Overclocking! The HIS 7970 IceQ X² GHz Edition graphics card offers increased power supply input with two 8-pin power connectors (The AMD 7970 ref. board offers one 6-pin and one 8-pin connector) for more voltage for overclocking. Up to 18% higher current output is achieved. The extra PWM phase* for core voltage provides extra power stability and lower temperatures for power components! (*HIS 7970 IceQ X² GHz Edition has PWM Phase of 6+1+1 and AMD 7970 ref. board has PWM phase of 5+1+1.)
  • newegg Boost Clock is Faster! The HIS 7970 IceQ X² GHz Edition graphics card has the latest Boost Clock technology for up to 1050MHz clock, providing extra performance for the most demanding games and applications!
  • newegg IceQ X² – Cooler, Quieter IceQ X² makes the card 63°F (17°C) cooler and 15dB quieter than the reference cooler. The card remains quiet whether you are gaming, socializing online, entertaining, or working. The two super large 89mm dual axial fans with Q&C fan blades cool the GPU directly and efficiently while keeping noise level at minimum. The extra large 40 x 47.5mm copper heatsink provides a large area to dissipate heat efficiently. Three 6mm and two 8mm wide heatpipes remove heat from the core area while memory and MOSFET heat sinks shed warmth from these areas.
  • newegg iTurbo – Your Graphics Card’s Assistant iTurbo is user-friendly overclocking software. Its fan control and fan monitoring allow easy adjustment of your card to its maximum cooling performance or to run your card quietly! With the smart auto overclocking function, users can experience a slight performance boost with just one click! Either you wish to unleash its full potential or to make it more environmental friendly, iTurbo is ready for you!
  • newegg Longer Lasting & Safer Design! Dual BIOS ensures the card runs properly by allowing you to switch to the second BIOS if the card does not run with the first BIOS. HIS cards are engineered with the highest standard of safety. Solid State Choke stabilizes the card, and all-Solid State Capacitors ensures the best power quality and enhances the card’s stability in critical gaming situations! The HIS special metal rib provides extra strength to the PCBs to avoid warping, making the cards extra stable and durable.

Pros: Fast when it works

Cons: Since day 1 card giving nothing but trouble, wont run by itself or in a C/F set up,crash as soon you start any games, and H I S support is the worst, after testing my card for almost 5 month as per H I S support .Im still waiting for them email back from my last email, about 3 weeks ago.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card..probablshould have waited for 290

Pros: Works great. Got as a second card for my dual 7970.

Cons: I bought this card late in the year. In hindsight I should have sold my other card and waited the few extra months for the 290. At the time I wasn't aware that it was coming out to market so soon.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome AGP card

Pros: First one arrived and seemed to be an opened package, so I returned it and got a replacement. It has been rock solid since I have owned it. Didn't notice any coil wine that others mentioned. Puts my older 5970 to shame.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Its a big card. Make sure your case has the space.

1 out of 5 eggsInsane windows flickering, support not helpful

Pros: The device seems fast while in games. Able to play games smoothly.

Cons: 2D support is terrible. I have opened several tickets on screen flickering. Blamed on 2D clocks. Fix with iTurbo would not work. Repeatedly discussed with their support department.

Other Thoughts: I'm at a point where this is probably my last AMD product and definitely my last HIS product.

3 out of 5 eggsSorta Worked Awesome

Pros: Scored over 10k on 3Dmark11 for graphics, pushes a solid 60 FPS with all settings on high or ultra and vsync turn on with most of my games (Borderlands 1 & 2, Metro 2033 & Last Light). The heat sink appeared to keep the cards temps at 60 or less, I believe it was around 30 idle? The fans were quiet from what I could tell but I also have some 6 case fans 120mm and bigger. I have to say the card worked great, while it worked, see cons below.

This is a nice looking card, this is my first windowed case and its nice to look and see sexy black with silver and red accents on components.

Cons: This card is huge, it looks like a video card that has more than one GPU on it. The heatsink is massive with double fans cooling it. Since the card never got above 60 degrees i'd hardly say it is a con except you NEED a case with LOTS of space to use this card.

Defective, periodically I would get a blank screen or gray screen with bars running down it which would prevent me from doing anything else unless I hard reset the computer. Had that problem on another card some years back so hopefully getting a new card will solve that problem, but having to send out and wait to receive a new card is just annoying, luckily I did not sell the 6870 I had so at least I can still use the beast of a computer.

Kudos to newegg on giving prepaid shipping to return the card so i'm not even out of money to replace it.

I will note that this card seems to run at the "boost" speed constantly which was 1050mhz and i'm inclined to think that had something to do with the occasional gray screens, my assumption is that clock rate is really just too high to sustain and that the card really should either run at 1000 or maybe a hair less, especially since while it was working it worked wonderfully and much to my surprise pretty cool. Perhaps it was just a flawed capacitor.

Other Thoughts: After I bought this card I have to say I didn't realize the R9's were out, after some reading it seems this card really is the same as the R9 280x maybe with exception of power consumption. Initially I thought I needed to return and exchange for the R9 series but since they are the same (excluding the R9 290 & 290x) i'm not too broken up about it.

I did NOT get the 11 games selection in the AMD rewards, it was more like 7 games so titles have been removed, it was a much more narrow choice for my 3 games. I'll also note taht these games are NOT FREE, if you look at the price of a similar card without the games you can see they inflate the price of the card to account for the games. Also if you go online you will see that the games if bought seperately are valued at about 65 dollars and the certificate (and newegg) say the value is 99.99 which means if you return for refund you don't get refunded the 99.99 so in this case if I refunded this card to buy the R9 I would have only been refunded 280 dollars out of the 379 that I paid meaning that the R9 equivalent would have had me out of pocket 40 dollars.

If your deciding factor is the free games, skip that notion and buy the R9 290 or 290x as you will only pay 20 bucks more and get way more card for your money, the stream processors in the 7970 and R280 is the same at 2048 however in the R9 its 2500+ and that is a pretty solid difference, if I had it to do over I would have bought the R9 290 and skipped the so called "free" games.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome graphics card

Pros: Good temps, pretty good frames per second and good power usage, gotta love everything about this card.

Cons: A bit pricey, but its ok when you get this kind of aftermarket cooling.

Other Thoughts: The Never Settle Bundle is good bonus, get three games for free while you can.

5 out of 5 eggsJust what I needed to play BF4 on Ultra!

Pros: Plays Battlefield 4 on Ultra settings using 1920 x 1080 at frame rates 115 - 72fps. The card is very sturdy and a lot better looking in person. The black fan shroud and silver "X" are all metal. The "X" is actually an awesome looking brushed aluminum not plain looking as it appears in the images. Great HIS Overclocking Utility Software. Works very well!

I've never Fans do make a light whizz sound instead of a hush of wind sound like other fans. Only can hear it in my open air case if I turn down my other fans. Not an issue like others have made it sound like it is. Retail box is Ugly.

Other Thoughts: Going from a GTX 580 to this was an impressive jump. This card is alot stronger than I thought it was going to be in terms of graphics power. I was considering going with a GTX 770 and paying $150 more. So so so happy now I didn't make that choice. Especially now discovering AMD's "MANTLE TECHNOLOGY" coming in December for Battlefield 4. Essentially this card will perform like a "GTX TITAN" once released. Do your homework and read about it before you buy an Nvidia GTX 780 or 770 to play BF4.

4 out of 5 eggsHIS ICEQ 7970 GE

Pros: Plays recent games good frame rate. Very playable in most games very high settings @1080p. Playable in ultra and overclocked, but see cons. Free games. Overclocks well, but see cons. If fan noise isn't an issue, then it's great. AMD GOLD AWARD.

Cons: Fans loud when overclocked and ultra for sure. Have noticed a little tearing a few times.

Other Thoughts: Yes it plays newer games very well, but may want to lower setting to run better in multi-player. Wanted to go GTX 770, but went for this for $100 less and free games. Probably should've held onto codes for BF4, but wanted games NOW, as been away from it for long time. Still, new system plays new games fine, but just as loud as old system. More heat created, more fan speed.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Card

Pros: Runs cold, very fast, simple OC, and looks great in my case.

Cons: The cooler on this card is awesome but it is big. Make sure you have the room for it.

Other Thoughts: Buying a 2nd.
