5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: runs like a charm.
no problems updating drivers.
easy to install right out of the box.

Cons: none to mention at this time

Other Thoughts: I bought this for my first new build in five years and my very first water cooled build. the stock fan was quiet for a reference model and it stayed at a good temp as well. Currently getting between 90 and 120 FPS playing BF4 on ultra settings.

5 out of 5 eggsRuns hotter than you think

Pros: -Very fast
-Overclocks okay (1150mhz core stable) (assuming you can stand to hear the fan running over 60%)
-Good Windows Drivers (linux drivers are barely acceptable for gaming, but OpenCL is decent)
-Runs every game on max settings @ 1080p
-Wicked fast OpenCL Compute capabilities.
- Got it for $535 (came with a free hard drive combo that I resold for $45 off the $580 initial price)
-Very good for 1080p gaming without hearing an extremely loud fan, great frame rates and quiet on nearly all games on max settings
- Skyrim with some of the best visual quality mods + highest quality enbseries configs averages @ 55fps, with dips into the high 40's. (Not bad but not great)

Cons: -Miners drove the price to insane levels (would have gotten a 580ti but Nvidia's OpenCL support is so bad it wouldn't be worth the hassle)
-You really need a water cooling setup to get any good overclocks without listening to a jet engine
-Reference cooler is mediocre because of the 2nd DVI port reduces the blower opening to 1/2 of the backplate.
-Won't actually run at OC levels without manual control of the fan, will throttle down long before you get past 1100mhz (voltage oc is out of the question on air cooling)

5 out of 5 eggsExactly what i wanted

Pros: This card allows me to play BF4 at 2560 x 1440 on Ultra and average 55-65 fps. Can really handle anything you throw at it.

Cons: Price has gone up since release due to demand.

Other Thoughts: This thing is overkill for 1920 x 1080 but if you have a higher resolution display it's perfect.

1 out of 5 eggsAfter more than ten years, utterly disappointed in The eggs service.

Pros: None, card was defective on arrival.

Cons: Card was defective on arrival, RMAd the same day.

Other Thoughts: I depend on my computer to work, so it was crucial that I obtained my replacement inmediately.

-The egg refused to provide an advanced RMA, for "unknown reasons" (customer service words)
-They failed to inform me that they would use the cheapest of the cheap shipping method for my return, even though I had paid for the most expensive next day shipping on the original order.
-Once I shipped the item with their shipping label, and realized that it would take 8 or so days for them to receive it, I contacted customer service. Again, "nothing they could do, and I had to wait." No option for Advanced RMA, once again.

BEWARE: IF you pay for next day shipping, if the card ends up being defective, you will have to wait around 16 days to receive your replacement.

IF you paid only for regular shipping, forbid you receive your replacement before the year is over.

After more than ten years as a customer and countless systems built... I might be leaving The egg after all.

5 out of 5 eggsBeats Titans

Pros: -Amazing performance per dollar
-Pretty nice looking card
-Quiet at 40% fan

Cons: -Runs at 95C (At 100% fan you can keep it at 65C)
-Really loud past 40% fan

Other Thoughts: This and a 8350 @ stock is out performing almost all Titan and 4770k combos in synthetic benchmarks.

I would highly recommend getting the vanilla 290 though, for $400 that cannot be beat.

1 out of 5 eggsExtremely Disappointed in HIS

Pros: For the 30 seconds (no exaggeration) that it ran, it offered incredible performance on all my games.

Cons: -BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) constantly within 1-3 minutes of getting into Windows, whether gaming or not.
-Tried any and all troubleshooting steps I could find online, and I mean ALL.
-Tried different sets of drivers, but no luck.
-Simply, I cannot use Windows for any time after 3 minutes without getting a BSOD with error code 0xa000001

Other Thoughts: I managed to run a couple of games for a max of 30 seconds before getting the aforementioned BSODS (and being forced to restart the computer) the performance during those 30 seconds was incredible.

I jumped through a lot of hoops to buy this card, selling my previous SLI setup, my old sound card, and even paid one-day shipping for how eager I was to obtain it. And now what? It doesn't work. After trying everything I could think of, I am simply assuming the card is faulty and returning it.

Fun fact is, I need my computer for work, but since I sold my old GPUs, I have no GPU to use my computer now.

I wonder if Newegg would be so kind as to ship a replacement card with one day shipping that I could hopefully get Monday or Tuesday.

I have used HIS in the past... 4870 x2, 5870, 6950, you name it... Their cards have always been good and solid to me.

As a long-time HIS customer... I am incredibly disappointed with this purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsHIS R9 290X

Pros: Extremely fast, quiet (thus far), but it is hot.

Cons: Drivers!!! Come on AMD. When you release a card, have non-beta drivers to go along with it. That said, I have only hit a few minor snags along the way.

Other Thoughts: The size of the card was exactly the same as the Radeon 6970 that it replaced. I thought it may been a few mm smaller, but could have been mistaken. I've run synthetic benchmarks at 3960x1200 and seen fantastic results and I've run BF3 maxed out (which I could do before with the 6970). Want to get my hands on Metro Last Light to really push this thing, but I believe from what I've seen this card should be able to handle it. Seriously thinking of getting another one to run in x-fire! :)

5 out of 5 eggsRadeon R9 290x Reigns Supreme

Pros: BF4 Max Settings 200% texture! 1080p 120hz, nuff said!

Cons: Nothing. The End!

Other Thoughts: I was worried about HIS as I never used there products before. I swear by sapphire but I just wanted this card so bad that I was ready to buy one from any card making company (and any site that isn't over charging for the card trying to tax us) I could find. I stand before you a changed man. HIS build quality is just as good as any. I love the packaging as well. If you are worried about HIS, worry not, they are good!

Lastly: I refuse to go down to 60hz until i can get 139.87 PPI for less than $1000.00. When that happens i will go crossfire! Until then I will be raiding and fragging all of you at 1080p-120hz-2ms, 1000 pole rating-5600dpi, 50Mbps, smooth as butter, fast as hell, gaming machine. (if you know what i am saying, you are a true pc gamer, the supreme beings). GAME ON!!!! ;)

5 out of 5 eggsShort Review

Pros: running bf3, crysis 3 at max settings @1080p read other thoughts

Cons: a bit on the loud side and quite toasty, but i expect this from a reference design

Other Thoughts: running at 1080p only, i know some of you would point out and say a 280x would be enough, but i require minimum 60fps at all times at max settings; also future-proofing. furthermore i use this for bc mining, hence the compute prowess eliminates the 780, and titan because of the price
