2 out of 5 eggsThe card series is unstable

Pros: Fast, sleek, more power than most of us really need.

Cons: Enormous, runs extremely hot stock (requires post-installation configuring inside AMD control panel to manage temps), driver/hardware are unstable and randomly bluescreen when performing seemingly mundane tasks such as rendering a flash plugin or a youtube video.

From my research, the entire line of R9 280, 290, and 290x cards are prone to this problem. AMD is seemingly aware of the issue and have yet to produce a legitimate fix for it. Users have been tinkering away with this problem for months and have not found a suitable fix.

Other Thoughts: The card is nice, but it's far too costly to be having these sorts of problems.

I gave it two eggs because it has a lot of potential. That being said, I would not have bought it if I knew AMD was not going to be upfront with a lot of these issues and if fixes were not available.

I hope they can get on it soon, but I will likely be returning mine if possible and I won't be recommending the product to anyone else.

NOTE: This is not an isolated problem. It appears that MANY people have this problem and it won't take but a Google search to discover that fact. Be very careful before making this purchase!

4 out of 5 eggsFantastic GPU

Pros: Very capable. Exactly what you would expect from a card with the specs this one has.

Cons: Temp????

Other Thoughts: The only con is the temp. It is running at 57 degrees C while I'm typing this and it will get up to around 70C while gaming. This is with the card set at it's high performance settings, but without any overclocking. I've got a very cool case too. The manufacturer claims that these temps are well within the acceptable range however, so maybe it isn't a con...

3 out of 5 eggsGreat! While they lasted

Pros: Great for gaming. It took everything I could throw at it. I built 2 machines with these, before the price jumped, for next gen games (bf4, titanfall, watch dogs etc). Running 3 monitors on Ultra with BF4 looked great

Cons: Bad news though - 1 of the cards does not post any video now and the other 1 is intermittently flaking out. I also have 2 Sapphire cards that actually run more often than these two and they have had no issue. I keep a very, very close eye on the temps in my cases and they never got over 74 Degrees according to MSI Afterburner.

Other Thoughts: Not sure that I will be buying HIS GPU's again. They were under $400 brand new when I got them and the Sapphire 290's were the same price

1 out of 5 eggsTHE WHINE!

Pros: Card is very powerful...

Cons: ..but it has developed the worst "coil whine" i have ever experienced. seriously this card squeals the most awful sound in bf4,arma3,witcher2 and any synthetic benchmark.
Avoid until AMD/HIS upgrade from dollar store caps

Other Thoughts: I was so happy with this cards performance until the whine started. i have tested it in another system with a different psu and had the exact same results

4 out of 5 eggsBetter Than Expected

Pros: Very Fast - Faster than what I had read I would get using this card for GPU hash computations. Decent price for the performance. Newegg delivered quickly with no issues - as usual.

Cons: It runs very hot under loads. I understand the chips can take the heat but the heat from this card increased the CPU and motherboard temps by 30%. If you plan on using 2 cards you better plan for some extra high performance cooling.

Other Thoughts: Don't believe what you read in some blogs about HIS cards not working well for virtual currency mining. This card works just fine but you need to play with the configurations a little. The card is large though. It almost reaches the drive bays in my case and its a double wide so it may be difficult to get two of these in one case if you plan on using Crossfire. Make sure of your motherboard layout.

4 out of 5 eggsHOT and FAST

Pros: Price / performance
BF4 ultra runs amazing

Cons: Temps are very high 80-90C
Fan can be loud but i have had other cards make the same amount of noise

Other Thoughts: The fan noise is not so bad similar to my old 5970. Gets hot fast but amd claims it will handle the temps.

Do not forget to move the little bios switch to the performance setting (towards the rear) so you can get full throttle graphics

Will test it out on BF4 120hz when new monitor arrives

3 out of 5 eggsThis card is like my women; fast, loud and hot. Don't Try to Overclock

Pros: Runs games at a very high frame rates. BF4 at 1440p running at or near 60fps pretty consistently. Price was right as it is nearly at the 290x and 780 performance for $150 to $100 cheaper, respectively.

Cons: Other than the temperature and sound level (which most purchasers should be aware of) there is only one major con I have found. The inability to overclock via AMD catalyst control center without artifacts. Like not even 5% overclocking. Not sure if the higher temperature associated with overclocking is causing this or what.

Other Thoughts: For the price, you can't beat this card. But don't try to push the card.
