5 out of 5 eggsSolid Card

Pros: Bought this because it seemed to give the best 'bang for the buck' and I wanted the twin cooling fans because I believed they would keep the board cooler and quieter.
I was right.
Handles Alien Isolation at max settings with 80+fps and around 55 degrees and I can't even hear the fans (it's sitting under my desk).
Using with AMD FX-6350 Vishera 6-Core 3.9GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Desktop Processor

Cons: None so far

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Great price when it's on sale. I got this for $157, with a free Radeon gold reward.

I have had zero problems with the card so far, granted it's only been about a week. I've been running software to monitor temperatures and it stays very cool, even when gaming for several hours straight.

It's a beast compared to my old 7750. I went from getting 32-38 frames per second in Dragon Age: Inquisition with 7750, to getting 100-130 frames with this R9 270X.

Cons: Not really a con but make sure you check the measurements of your case. This card isn't crazy long but it's still pretty big and you want to make sure it will fit.

Other Thoughts: My old card was a HIS 7750 and works great still, after years. This card works great too so far, I like the HIS brand and will continue to buy from them.

1 out of 5 eggs2 DOA

Pros: Metal shroud and smaller than other R9's.

Cons: First one I received from Newegg was DOA, but a ticket through HIS suggested it was simply a bad driver. After waiting for new drivers and doing a clean install of windows the problem persists. Card runs fine until you try to game on it. Doesn't matter settings or if fan is at 100%, once the game opens I have about 30-40 seconds before the card overheats and hangs up. According to CCC the card gets to around 80C when this happens.

I RMA'd through Lexy Pacific as per HIS instructions and the 2nd card does the exact same thing. Luckily my relative had a different brand R9 and we swapped cards. His R9 works perfectly in my rig and my HIS R9 has the same problem in his rig.

I sent this information to Lexy Pacific and they responded that I now have to go back through HIS before we can proceed. The first RMA was a relatively quick process, but with the holidays coming up I'm pretty sure it'll be another month before I get a new card...

Other Thoughts: Doing a quick Google search it appears there was a bad batch of these R9 cards and the overheat issue is fairly common. I'm just hoping HIS doesn't try to give me the run around and I actually get to use this card.

3 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: Pretty good, had over heating problems when I first got it. After taking it apart and reapplying thermal paste works great.

Cons: HIS notorious iffy quality.

Other Thoughts: I wont buy HIS in the future.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thanks for your support in HIS.
We regret to inform you that we do not suggest users to replace or install the cooler/fan themselves, as it would damage the ASIC / graphic card and void the warranty.
If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our customer service department directly.

Best Regards
HIS Customer Service (webenquiry@hightech.com.hk)

3 out of 5 eggsMakes NVIDIA cards look cold

Pros: - Very attractive design
- Little to no noise when under normal loads
- Intuitive software included (not so bad)
- Blows through games and benchmarks
- A few good games are available with the AMD free game bundle

Cons: - I received one of the cards from a few bad batches that other users received (see other thoughts)
- Fans sound like a busy machining shop when at 100%. I mean, who buys a factory overclocked graphics card to browse Facebook and read email?
- AMD still foists cruddy trailware with their "giveaways", only a few good games

Other Thoughts: Like other users have been posting, this particular card has a tendency to overheat. I didn't really notice the problem until my NewEgg warranty was long gone, so I had to go to HIS. But HIS doesn't handle RMAs. They go through a third party, which isn't exactly the most transparent or quick about getting you a new card. I did the RMA, which set me back a full month without my brand new computer - not exactly the best customer service for such a high end card. When I did actually receive the replacement, the heat sink had a few visible scratches and potentially some dust (used?), but when I popped it in and ran some benchmarks, the card consistently stayed under 55 celsius, and never underclocked its self for overheating prevention. I don't understand why HIS is having so many problems, but for now, it seems ok. I may even try overclocking it now, since the fans never went past 25% while benchmarking it.

In the end, I will probably not buy from HIS again. The RMA process was a little ridiculous considering I payed almost $200 for a card that is clearly not performing consistently with how it should be.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,
We are sorry for your situation and suggest you try to check following steps.
1. If possible verify the HIS graphics card on another working system or verify another working card on your motherboard. Need to ensure that the platform is no problem.
2. If you need further assistant, please feel free to contact our customer service department directly.

Best Regards

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Worked fine when it was not overheating, tanked any game i threw at it... for a time

Cons: After about 4 months the card suddenly started to overheat and blackscreen reaching temps 100 degrees plus. I dont get it either, i thought it was my PSU but i ran all kinds of test of kinds to find out that the card just gets crazy hot.

Other Thoughts: In MSI afterburner the temp pattern looked like steep steps. I have to underclock it to get decent temps wich is not the reason i got a r9 270X. I will no longer get any kind of HIS product again. The critical reviews all talk about the same issue, i just wished i got lucky.

1 out of 5 eggsWatch out with this card

Pros: Upgrade to my old GTX 240

Cons: Runs very very hot. So much so that my entire system crashes. I'm able to play most games on medium settings but that's not why I bought this card. Since I bought this card, as soon as settings were turned on High or ultra my computer shut off or stalled out.

Other Thoughts: I won't be buying HIS again. This has become beyond frustrating. Great mid range card if you just need to run mid settings on most games.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent card for the money

Pros: After putting this card through its paces for the last 6 months or so, I would say I'm happy overall with performance. It's a quiet card and runs Battlefield 4 on ultra settings (read: uncompressed), which is pretty impressive for a 2GB card. I came from a Sapphire 6870, so while this card is not at the top of the heap, it was a huge improvement in performance. I haven't had any need to attempt overclocking with the provided software. Crossfire capability is a plus, but again this is only a 2GB card, so you're not getting a huge performance boost from pairing two of these things together.

Cons: This thing is huge. Like, really big. Measure your machine before purchase if you're doing your own build. Luckily, I bought a decent sized case the first time around and had no issue with installation.

Other Thoughts: I've heard that some are having issues with the software for overclocking, and a few of these cards just don't work out of the box. These unfortunate folks are in the minority it seems. There may be better cards in the price range but this isn't a bad buy. Just be sure to put some stress on it within the return period or *gasp* purchase coverage just in case something happens. I have had no issues with this card to date and it runs all of my games on the highest graphics settings (BF4, Trine 2, Bioshock Infinite, Assassin's Creed III). I dig the mini display outputs as well.

5 out of 5 eggsHIS Iceq X2 video card

Pros: This is an awesome card. Temps never went above 60c. Fans are quiet until they get above 40%

Cons: Only con I can think of is the software. It never displays the correct core clock or memory clock when changing it. A minor problem, not worth taking an egg off

Other Thoughts: Only other problem I had was not because of the card itself but because of a driver update. Would not stop crashing my system whenever I tried to play any games.

Pros: Runs everything I play at 1920x1080 without a problem. Cool, and quiet as I have come to expect from HIS.

Cons: None.
