Pros: it continued to perform very well past its second year

Cons: after the 2nd year, the card unfortunately died. im currently searching for a upgrade.

Other Thoughts: because its discontinued, whether it had an active warranty or not i cannot get a replacement. its a shame, but im glad i had it as long as i did

5 out of 5 eggs1 year later

Pros: awesome card. fast and reliable, easy to clean. low price when i got it.

Cons: its now discontinued

Other Thoughts: i bought this card about a year ago and had no issues. i used to have a PNY GTS 250 but it didnt cut it so i bought this card and sold the other one. now im looking to buy a GTX 660 and im wanting to sell this one. it was perfect, but with the constant barrage of new and more demanding games its time for an upgrade.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat - while it worked!

Pros: Bang for the buck

Cons: Died after a month and a half!

Other Thoughts: I installed this in my system the last week of October. I'm using it to develop CUDA applications, and to run apps such as Seti@Home or Folding@Home. Great performance. Also looks great with new PC games such as Skyrim. However, by the first week of December, the card had cooked itself, due to the FACTORY over clocking of the chipset from the rated 783MHz from NVidia, to 888MHz. The card is no longer stable for *ANY* CUDA operations at 888MHz. At 783MHz it will eventually lockup or blue screen the system. DirectX11 games run, but with random visual artifacts.

Once again - GREAT card until this one apparently started experiencing GPU failure.

The kicker is I have been trying to contact Galaxy Technology technical support for 2 weeks. I've emailed them. I have looked for their nonexistent Facebook and Twitter pages, and I have left voice mail more than once on their supposedly 24/7 technical support line. Nothing...

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Jim,

I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with both your card and our support team. I've used the Galaxy GTX 450 GC myself, and it should have no stability or reliability problems at the factory OC of 888Mhz. In fact, I ran my card at an OC of 950Mhz using Xtreme Tuner for a very long time and never had a problem with it. Still, we are human and anything man-made can malfunction. This is where good customer service comes in, and I'll be launching an investigation with our support team to make sure they are 100% on getting customers taken care of.

Again, I sincerely apologize for the experience you've had, and would like to offer my help in getting everything resolved for you as quickly and completely as possible.

Please email me at andrew@galaxytechus.com and I'll be glad to help out in any way possible.

Thanks,

-Andrew Fischer

5 out of 5 eggsJust what I needed

Pros: Ran current 2011 titles easily on max settings. Quiet.

Cons: Wouldn't play anything well at first even after installing updates. Took some work and a bit of magic to let it do its thing.

Hooking it up to TVs with the HDMI port makes everything zoomed in and I have to change settings, though with no picture loss.

5 out of 5 eggsGood card for the price

Pros: Had this card for about 3 weeks now and so far I'm satisfied with it's overall performance. Runs Dragon Age O. very well all maxed out with an occasional hiccup(really not that bad), New Vegas also runs maxed out fairly well with shadows off(plus AA@4x, AF@8) with an occasional stutter outdoors when big chunks of area need to be upscaled/loaded, though it might be my 2gb 667 ddr2 ram holding my system back. Also tried L4D and it drops to about 30fps when theres a horde but its hard to notice. Also went through HL2 ep1 and it always was above 100 fps all maxed out.

Definitely reasonably priced card, especially with the galaxy $30 rebate you can't go wrong with this model for about $110. But once the rebate expires I did some reading up on benchmarking and the ati 5770 seems better deal performance wise for about $20 extra. This is still an excellent card though.

Cons: A couple of cons. Minor one is that the grey plastic case seems cheaply built, compared to my old xfx 8800gt. Another things is that on automatic settings the fan barely goes up past 20% speed which equals to almost 70 C on stock. Had to manually bump to speed to 30% to make it run cooler. Usually its about 30 C on desktop. Fan is pretty quiet though.

Other Thoughts: I like the fact that you can overclock this card even further with galaxy's XtremeTuner HD software. Although it may not be so significant it's still a nice boost. I got mine running stable @ 930mhz/1860mhz and Mem freq @ 2150 in New Vegas.

My final thought is that this card is a definitive buy while the $30 rebate is on, after that you might be interested to look into the 5770 for better performance.

4 out of 5 eggsgood folding card

Pros: sub $100 price point for 8.5-10k ppd folding proteins. running 24/7 @ 100% load, the card's never exceeded 48c.
sli'd = 7.5 WEI, for what it's worth.

Cons: not if you do your homework

Other Thoughts: gaming entails mame, snes9x and some newer titles at lower resolutions and highish settings. all perform flawlessly.

1 out of 5 eggsCards seem prone to failure.

Pros: Price

Cons: We ordered 5 of these for CGI workstations in our office and one failed about a week into use and just the other day we lost another 2 that where in SLI. Probably just poor manufacturing, im sure some of the cards will live a full life, but comon 3 out of 5 fail within a month.... thats just unacceptable.

Other Thoughts: Systems are all hooked up through UPS's and redundant surge protection.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Purchase

Pros: Great upgrade from my old 9800 GTX+. Runs all games on high or close to high with no problems (tested: SC2, L4D2, Mafia 2, Dead Space 2, Vindictus, Black Ops, Hot Pursuit, Splinter Cell Conviction, GTA 4). If it doesn't run on full settings you only need to tweak a few advanced settings in-game to gain some fps. Idles at around 36C, full load on any game is no more than 68-70C for each game (every game hit 69C and didn't go over. Mafia 2 was 70C max). Removable fan is awesome for better cleaning. Card runs very quiet also. Great budget card indeed.

Cons: This cards $130 price tag is a decent deal, but if you can afford $150 for a GTX 460, BUY IT. The extra cash is worth it as the 460 dutily outperforms this card on every test I have seen online. I didn't get the 460 because I only had $130 at the time and hadn't had a new card in 2 months and was tired of waiting. I do not regret it though, as the GTS 450 Super OC is still a great card. I imagine it would kick major *** in SLI.

Other Thoughts: Have done extensive testing all day with it and so far so good. Normal temps on full load as mentioned, and beautiful graphics.
Running on system from ibuypower.com:
Intel Core i5 3.60ghz
4gb ADATA gaming RAM
Standard ASUS mobo
Corsair 600w PSU
Liquid cooling
Win7 32bit

5 out of 5 eggsGood Gcard

Pros: Great card for the price.
Not loud at all, has a decent amount of heat dissipation for the cooling system on it, runs high end games great. SC2 on ultra settings.

Cons: Price could still be a bit lower to be a fantastic deal
