Great Card Thus Far
- Pros: Extremely fast
Runs my games at "Ultra Detailed Level" with absolutely no lag
Dual DVI output (with adapters for converting to generic VGA)
Single Slot design (I think; it's shorter than what a dual card would be as far as I can tell)
Extremely fast customer service (replied in less than 12 hours)
- Cons: Extremely power hungry (requires beefy power supply)
I -mistakenly- thought the card was DOA (read "other thoughts" for the story). BUT, that was my fault.
- Other Thoughts: When I received this card, the fans would turn, but the video wouldn't appear. I connected my monitor to the integrated VGA that I had on my motherboard (while the computer was still on), and to my surprise, the VGA was NOT disabled, meaning the motherboard refused to recognize the video card. I decided maybe the card was dead, but I gave it a few more shots. I wrote to Foxconn's email, and they said that maybe my PCI express was outdated (they said it required 2.0; but after some research, I realized they were mistaken). Eventually, research (namely a few of the reviews on this page, ha ha) lead me to believe maybe my 600 watt powersupply wasn't doing the trick. I bought a 630 watt raidmaxx, and now the card runs perfectly. I'm not sure how long it'll last, I'll let you know if it dies on me anytime soon; though I feel this card will last a good 5 years or so.
excellent card
- Pros: Though it's just another 8800GT, this model is overclocked to 660 on the core for $190 after rebates. It will run games brilliantly on high settings paired with the right system, and as of right now prices are dropping with the advent of the 9-series. Very good bang for the buck IMO.
- Cons: Do yourself a favor and get a GPU cooling kit compatible with this card. Even with a well-ventilated CM690, my stock HSF temps were idling 45-50 and loading at 75-80. Now I'm loadin' at what I used to idle at :D. Also, make sure you're not running this in your aunt's desk computer -- it uses quite a bit of power, so get a decent PSU as well.
- Other Thoughts: Buy it? Do it XD
Great card!
It is hot and like power
- Pros: The graphics are great, works well in SLi also.
- Cons: I have two in SLi and they run hot, one is a few degrees hotter thatn the other. With the computer at idle they are at about 60 Celcius. With them getting a workout with some "Crysis" they run at about 73 Celcius. It is not an air flow problem, I have a full tower case with 7 fans. They also love power. Get a PSU that has at least the amount of amps per rail that each of your graphic cards needs. The box on this card says 26amps. I had one of the card that I RMA'd due to it having a very loud high pitch squeel coming from its cooling fan, but the replacement worked great.
- Other Thoughts: I had purchased a 900 watt PSU that had 6 12v rails that could put out 20 amps per rail or combine all 6 rails together to put out 70 amps if there was a need. This PSU couldn't power just one of the graphic cards on (it would power up the cooling fan on the card), the mobo would cycle through and give out a string of beeps with no display. I ended up buying another PSU that had 4 rails with two of the rails rated at 36 amps each, put one card on each of these rails and the card fired right on up.
